Poor Jas. The manipulation of the neck made me feel a bit 🤢.

I will
Also ask one of our consultant orthopaedic surgeons, if a village policeman can do the job. I'll report back the reaction.

Ooh, is there a new series? 👀

Off to watch, thanks!

Toddlerteaplease · 18/01/2023 21:55

As gory as the ankle in the first episode of 24 hours in A&E.

LadyGardenersQuestionTime · 18/01/2023 21:57

Oooooh my favourite!

Whatmarbles · 18/01/2023 21:58

Poor Jas indeed, an awful injury ☹️

Whylurkwhenicanjoinin · 18/01/2023 22:06

That moment when they saw Jas’s xray, hit me for six, that poor woman 😢

Sprig1 · 18/01/2023 22:07

I love this programme, so well done. The misalignment of her neck was outrageous. I thought that level of injury would be fatal.

Yes. I actually swore out loud when I saw that. I thought she might not survive as well.

The silence in the scanning room was very telling.

MaggieFS · 18/01/2023 22:35

Golly, what an incredible programme.

Yes, I too was silenced when I saw that x ray. Wasn't sure it was really showing what it looked like until they said. And that silence from the staff. But what an incredible outlook she has. So positive.

Cocolapew · 18/01/2023 22:48

Imagine having the confidence to do those type of surgeries for the first time.
Everyones face when they saw Jas' scan and the silence was very moving.
I hope she's doing well.

WeeM · 18/01/2023 22:56

just incredible what these people do day in day out. I’m in awe of them all.

Facecream · 18/01/2023 23:40

They are incredible. Poor Jas. i hope she’s doing well

Toddlerteaplease · 19/01/2023 06:30

Despite all of the issues, this really is the NHS at its very best.

I thought that @WeeM even the guy inserting a new chest drain as if he does something like that every day (he probably does) calm as you like, what incredible humans, thank God we have them

porridgecake · 19/01/2023 07:20

Those programmes are very humbling. We are so very fortunate to have such amazing people in our health service. I was on the edge of my seat for much of the programme. I am usually draped on the sofa for evening tv. I was in tears for poor Jas.

the80sweregreat · 19/01/2023 07:26

I would like an update on how Jas is doing now
What an awful thing to happen
We drive every day without any thought of how one accident could ruin your life in a matter of seconds :(
These complex operations are incredible to observe. How they know what to do and tackle them and keep people alive too
Such clever individuals

happystory · 19/01/2023 07:28

Although they all had terrible accidents (especially Jas) they were incredibly fortunate to benefit from the skills of those surgeons (and others) Absolute heroes.

the80sweregreat · 19/01/2023 07:33

Those weights on her neck ..
My Dh has a motorbike and I worry so much when his out on it.
Mind you , the older lady only climbed up a few steps and had that happen to her foot . We are such fragile creatures really

vestanesta · 19/01/2023 09:03

We watched this with dds. Dd2 wants to be a dr and was glued to it.

For Jas, am I right I'm thinking the aim was to get her function in her arms/hands but nothing lower (because her spinal cord was severed?).

We liked the biker guy. A broken leg doesn't sound like a life threatening injury but seeing that surgery had me very nervous

MaggieFS · 19/01/2023 09:23

I can't think the last time a programme actually had me glued.

They all struck me, but another one worth a mention was the anaesthetist with the man having the femur operation who also had a collapsed lung. His calmness! My goodness. How we wasn't shouting and screaming about the severity, I mean I know of course it's his job to remain calm, but Wowsers.

Yes that’s how I understood it @vestanesta , they were doing what they could to save as much movement in her wrists/hands.

the80sweregreat · 19/01/2023 10:07

His lungs were failing him and they were so calm. It must have been tough and go at some points.
I suppose many do die on the operating table , but these were the successes
I'd love an update on Jas by the bbc if she would allow this of course. That poor lady

Toddlerteaplease · 19/01/2023 10:11

I would suspect Jas is probably still in hospital or in a spinal injuries unit, learning how to function in her new life. We have had children with similar injuries and they are in for months and months. Then have to wait for adapted housing and the social stuff to be sorted out.

I'm a nervous passenger these days , let alone actually driving anywhere myself
People who go crazy on our roads should watch this programme , although I did miss the first part and I don't know the full details of this accident.
