Yes, Chris Fountain was totally robbed in his series.

I still like to watch the show, but it isn't the same in many ways. What's gone wrong? What should change? (apart from the judges)?

It’s definitely not as good as it once was but I really can’t put my finger on why.

Generally I’ve never heard of most of the contestants - but that’s always been the case (although probably a bit worse than it used to be).

Obviously not the presenters as Phil and Holly have done it for years.

I do think that you used to find out more about/get to know the pros a bit better. You used to know a bit more about their background. Now all you get is their name and how many series of DoI they’ve done. I know it’s the celeb you’re meant to support but knowing/liking the pros makes a difference too.

I don’t think it’s the judging panel - there’s always been a mix of skaters and non-skaters on the panel and I like all the current judges. I do miss Robin Cousins though!

Maybe it’s the fact that Torville & Dean are les involved with the creation of the routines now. The routines don’t interest me as much as they used to - they don’t seem to have the daring moves that they used to. Maybe it’s just that what used to seem daring now isn’t.

It used to be more skills based and technical building up to Bolero.

@Strictlyfanoftenyears those clips show the difference. In previous years the contestants were faster and much more stable - the current ones are still really wobbly which would not have happened in previous years.

I can't work out what's changed? I think there is a stage where they screen the contestants and maybe they are just screening out ones with more potential? Or maybe fewer people want to do it?

I could watch Ray Quinn dance those routines over and over (and have done!) and never get bored. Joey Essex barely holds my attention. A shame but I don't even make the effort to watch the show this year after seeing the calibre of minor celebs as it has gone downhill so much. The first 3 or 4 Sunday nights had me watching every minute. Then I just tuned in to see how bad they were. I will watch the final though as you never know it could surprise us but not taking any bets on that 😕

I’ve been looking at the past series’ on Wikipedia and still can’t put my finger on what is missing. I think they are missing a pantomime ‘nasty’ judge, rather than the four very pleasant ones. The remarks seem to be the same every week. Skate more on your own, skate together more, you get more confident/better/improve every week (isn’t that the whole point of the show?). Apart from Nile, the celebs barely leave the ice in their jumps; there doesn’t seem to be any light and shade in their routines; I don’t really see that much dancing any more. Hayley and Dan dancing to Jai Ho was incredible and James Jordan, Brendon Cole, Perry and Regan were dancers and it showed. There is no-one this year who stands out, perhaps it is to do with Health and Safety. Funnily enough I’ve missed the comedy celeb like Todd Carty and Bez with his helmet, although they shouldn’t last as long as they do.
I must admit I’m being really critical and I’ve only been skating once. I managed to get all round the rink in an hour, holding on to the side. My OH said he would hold on to me, but shot off as soon as we got on the ice. I really didn’t think the ice was going to be that slippy! I do have a lot of sympathy for the contestants but this year just seems to be really boring.

Chris Fountain is still my absolute favourite of all time.

I think the rink was a lot bigger in earlier series. This lot wouldn't be able to cope with that though. Also, T&D are really bad in front of the camera, especially D.

I wonder if the smaller rink means they can't gather the same speed across the ice? There's definitely a lot less solo skating these days then those old clips. All the use of props even when not props el really annoys me - it's very similar to strictly that the focus is not on the dancing/ footwork but all the surroundings.
Plus the camera angles these days drives me mad!

None of the current pros have a tenth of Dan's personality and charisma on the ice.

Agree that a less happy judge is needed. Not as vile as Jason but someone who actually points out who is shit and wobbling around like a granny in Asda after the floors been cleaned.

And I'd rather a lot more colourful upbeat routines.

Definitely something lacking this series. Used to love it.

I don’t agree, l think that Olivia is brilliant Pro. She’s a great match with Nile. I just love watching them skate. Vanessa is good as well. Although l am not keen with her partnership with Joey Essex.l loved her with Perri.
