What have you LOVED lately?

I have loved:

  • The White Lotus
  • Glass Onion
  • Severance
  • Succession
  • Ghosts
  • What we do in the Shadows
  • Ted Lasso
  • Stanley Tucci Searching for Italy

I liked:

  • Our Flag Means Death
  • Sherwood
  • Slow Horses

I turned off:

  • Bad Sisters (loved the writing and performances but couldn't BEAR the prick - it was just making me stressed watching it!)

And I cannot watch Broadchurch/ Happy Valley style grim, violent TV, no matter how well written.

What have I missed that you have loved?

Just finished Search Party - loved it!

Willowkins · 14/01/2023 22:49

I'm already hooked on Happy Valley but if that's not your thing, I binge watched the last season of Will and Grace recently (Sky on demand). Also, Father Brown is back on Friday afternoons.

WellTidy · 14/01/2023 22:53

Don’t think it will be your thing but I loved The Handmaid’s Tale. I also love Happy Valley, and it’s pushed me to watching Last Tango in Halifax, as it’s by the same writer, but not the slightest bit gritty!

I also loves Succession and the White Lotus, and have just started The Traitors. Also watching Stranger Things with DS, which I think is brilliant.

custardlover · 14/01/2023 22:57

Thanks, maybe Last Tango would be worth a watch too then. I started Stranger Things but it just fizzled out after 4/5 episodes for me, I just wasn't invested in the characters.

I loved Sex Education too. And did enjoy The Boys and Umbrella Academy although some of the violence wasn't joyful. I guess the difference with that and eg Happy Valley (for me) is the grey, grim and gritty realism vs stylised and escapist.

But I do really like Slow Horses and that is marvellously grey and grim too (but very witty with it).

Princessdebthe1st · 14/01/2023 23:35

Wednesday on Netflix. Based on the Addams Family, dark, funny and quite gruesome in places. I loved it.

CrossPurposes · 14/01/2023 23:46

I've just finished the first season of Undone on Prime. It's a rotoscoped animation about manipulation of time and family. Each episode is about 22 minutes long. I recommend watching the first two episodes before deciding yea or nay.

Longdarkcloud · 14/01/2023 23:48

We’ve just finished watching The Light in the Hall - murder mystery set in Wales. Good cast, lovely scenery and kept us guessing.

buckeejit · 14/01/2023 23:56

@CrossPurposes love undone!

More people should watch Shtisel though 💚

I know I’m late do the party but we’ve just got into The Detectorists. It’s so gorgeous. Gentle but funny and kind. Loving it.

Oh I hated tell me lies. Every person was awful and it was just soft porn. Every five minutes there was a sex scene and they were the most awful self obsessed teenagers on the planet. Reminded me of The Secret History. Awful.

hadntbeen · 16/01/2023 11:39

@Namechange72638 good thing we all enjoy different things isn't it?

Spent the week binge watching both seasons of Ginny & Georgia and I loved it.

Think I'm going to try Mum next.
