Genius idea putting some reality tv people in their too, they’re already schooled in TV manipulation!

Alan Cumming, amazing actor (if in any doubt watch My Old School, his lip syncing is faultless) He’s no Davina tho, playing it like Macbeth! He waltzes in and out but he hasn’t yet shown much empathy.

And I also thought Cody looked like Gorka at times

DashingWhiteSergeant · 14/01/2023 20:17

Well, I’ve just binged it.

It’s not as good as UK, and Alan Cumming totally Barry McLeish’s the hell out of it, but it’s still fun.

The missions were all a bit too similar for total fun; and Alan looked and sounded like a caricature, so I’d give it 6/10 compared to 10/10 UK

Novemberhater · 14/01/2023 21:04

Finished it! Loved it.

Wilkolampshade · 14/01/2023 21:35

Oooh only on episode 7 and won't finish tonight as DH has a night shift and we try and watch the ends of series together.... But I might just watch it anyway and then fake it... (wouldn't be the first time..)

What a bunch! As others have said, not very likeable. Only part way through episode two and Brandi is dreadful. It's going to be another tearful show I think, like the uK one

1910username · 14/01/2023 22:43

Is anyone else surprised how most of the women are so inappropriately dressed for the tasks?

I’m on episode 5, I think, and they haven’t introduced the shield. I think by this episode the uk version had already done it.

Haha yes!!! I think it was the grave digging one that Kate and Brandi looked as if they were going out for brunch rather than running round the Highlands

Some of them were also over dressed for the task in the church

Champagneforeveryone · 14/01/2023 23:11

We're on the final episode...

I've started to get really into it, but definitely not as much as the UK one.

1910username · 14/01/2023 23:26

@Womencanlift , let’s hope they don’t wear high heels for the last one crossing that rickety bridge…

SilentHedges · 15/01/2023 00:01

Binged watched the entire show. Nowhere near as good as the UK one, Alan Cumming is excellent, the music made it practically unwatchable. Good production creates tension on its own, not with music so loud you can't hear the contestants talk.

I watched My Old School tonight, AC was amazing and the entire production was very cleverly done.

Flavabobble · 15/01/2023 01:24

I'm 3 or 4 episodes in. There seem to be a lot of checked shirts.
And they're all a bit samey. What really appealed about the UK one was the cross section of people in there.

NotTerfNorCis · 15/01/2023 01:45

They seem to be more detached and conscious this is a game, or a job they're being paid to do. That's one of the problems with getting established reality stars in.

Penguinsaregreat · 15/01/2023 06:50

I’ve just started binge watching and several episodes in. Agree with everyone else. It’s nowhere near as good as the UK version on any level. I much preferred the UK contestants they seemed far more ‘normal’. Most of this bunch seem like weirdos, maybe that’s the celebrity factor although I don’t know who any of them are. I don’t have empathy for any of them at all and I think that is a problem. Strangely the only one I would like to stay in at this point is the batchelor guy who comes across as more rational and likeable. Also he is rather easy on the eye. I don’t like all the ganging up which is happening around the round table. I liked the cameraderie which the UK contestants had.

1910username · 15/01/2023 07:44

Spoiler below if you haven’t seen the UK one..

I could barely breathe when they were about to find out that Amanda was a traitor, the anticipation to see their reaction was unbearable.

I cannot see myself feeling like that with any of these traitors.

hope the Australian one is more like the UK one, anyone knows?

Quite.

I haven't seen all of USA, (ep 5) but it's definitely a different approach. I (currently) think what makes it interesting is the personalities and dynamics of the group becoming friends etc.

The USA one feels like it would currently be able to be done in a studio as a werewolf game over an hour or so!

JustDanceAddict · 15/01/2023 11:45

We have just stared watching this after being obsessed w the uk version. It looks like they’re staying in the castle itself which is interesting! Will come back when I’ve finished as don’t want to see spoilers.

ellebelli · 15/01/2023 12:56

@1910username I enjoyed the Australia one it did take a while to get going but I found some episodes so tense and very clever(trying not to give anything away)
Much better than this USA one.
Although the host in the aussie one was also annoying.

1910username · 15/01/2023 13:35

@ellebelli , I’m going out now and I have one episode left, looking forward to seeing what happens.

may take a little break, as I’ve been binge watching this one and the UK this week… I don’t even trust my husband and daughter any more!

but will definitely watch the Australian one. And I guess I’ll use the magic 10 second button to forward as I do with Alan Cummins.

donteatme · 15/01/2023 20:46

Anyone else skipping forward the tasks? Totally boring/ especially as they're the same as the UK show. Adds nothing to the entertainment

donteatme · 15/01/2023 20:49

There's less crying than the UK version

I thought it would be more melodramatic

Awrite · 15/01/2023 21:20

I've finished it. Ended up loving it.

And yes, way less crying.

We watch them, it tells you a bit about the contestants. I would say that Kate’s performance in the barrel task is worth a watch Confused
