Apologies if there's already a thread, I couldn't see one.

Anyone else watching?

Supernatural thriller set on an oil rig off Scotland.

It's got Iain Glen (that's me, I'm in 😁), Martin Compston, Marc Bonnar, Richard People, Ser Alliser Thorne from GOT, a new Scottish actress (who's good) and Rochendra Sandall.

I'm deliberately not reading any reviews as I'm enjoying it and don't want to be put off.

Came here to see what others thought of this and pleased to hear I’m not the only one who thought it was crap. The acting was so bad it was laughable and irritating at the same time.

joyshortage · 11/01/2023 17:55

Agree about Compston's acting. He always reminds me of Joey in Friends doing the smell the fart acting!

RaraRachael · 12/01/2023 21:24

As it features the omnipresent Martin Compston, we won't be watching it, Is there anything that doesn't feature him these days? 🙄

Inastatus · 14/01/2023 22:17

Watched the whole first series, it was ok but I won’t watch series 2.

KimberleyClark · 14/01/2023 22:46

Enjoyed Owen Teale’s performance as Hutton in this but I am Welsh….

embolass · 14/01/2023 23:09

It’s awful- DH is still sticking with it as he’s a big MC fan, but can’t admit that even he can save this from being utter drivel. About to start ep 4 😩

cushioncovers · 15/01/2023 08:37

I wonder if the actors realised it was going to be shite as they were filming. Surely none of them were that desperate for money?

Faircastle · 15/01/2023 10:54

It has a strong cast (including a Game of Thrones reunion) and an interesting premise, but unfortunately it didn't really live up to my expectations. It did pick up a bit in the final episode.

Perhaps I would have enjoyed it more if I understood more engineering? There were a lot of times when the plot seemed to hang on pulling a lever or pressing a switch, or turning an alarm on or off. I had a very limited understanding of what any of these things did.

User4873628 · 15/01/2023 20:25

I've watched the whole thing and still haven't a clue what's going on. Was there some big message about the importance of caring for the planet, about nature being bigger than us mere humans, or was there no message at all? I was watching with ds17 which is why I kept going.

I'm now watching a Disney movie called Strange World with ds10 and there seem to be remarkable similarities. Weird underground power source, patterns of light floating across the screen. It could be the same story.

User4873628 · 15/01/2023 20:47

Honestly, weird fluorescent lights coming out of the sea, making circular patterns, people arguing over whether to destroy the life force or not, beautiful greenery....it's the same story!

blobby10 · 16/01/2023 11:54

I watched it as it looked OK on the trailer but after ep 1 it was more morbid fascination than anything else! I enjoyed the psychological aspects of the workers not trusting the bosses etc but the actual storyline felt rather weak. Don't think I will watch a next series if there is one

Sausagenbacon · 16/01/2023 12:00

We didn't enjoy it and gave up after episode 1. Among other things, I don't like the way they clumsily lay out the characters at the beginning. I prefer series that develop over time.

midsomermurderess · 16/01/2023 16:50

Iain Glen makes me think of Roger Moore. And he does that eye brow thing.

GCMM · 17/01/2023 09:57

Strong cast, but ludicrous storyline. And it's one of those programs which gives an entirely misleading impression about the types of people who work in an industry. North Sea offshore oil rigs do not have lots of women and lots of Black people!

Jomummy1013 · 17/01/2023 09:58

Didn't like this and couldn't finish it. Was disappointed as liked the first episode

Bumply · 18/01/2023 12:39

I made the mistake of watching episode one after Happy Valley and I had to stop watching as it was making me so angry with the ridiculously extreme responses to everything and particularly the poor injured guy who they were fighting over with no regard to the fact he's dying and might be able to hear them,

AaandAway · 19/01/2023 21:42

We're on ep3. DH really enjoying it. I'm trying to work out if the script was written by a very angry A-level Drama group with input from the school's Environmental Society, or by someone closely related to the director.

Furries · 21/01/2023 05:45

I watched it until the end. It was ok, but I wouldn’t be raving about it to anyone else.

The outdoor CGI scenes were shit.

And, I can’t help it, but I find it distracting when they have actors who have appeared together before in really popular shows. So, Martin and Rochenda - all that kept popping into my head was Line of Duty. The same with Iain and Owen - Game of Thrones.

Thanks to this thread, I am going to give The Last Ship a go. I’ll be back with the hump if it’s shit 🤣

boboshmobo · 21/01/2023 06:17

Everyone raves about these actors but I find them so wooden together .

We do watch a lot of American series and they are just so much better at this stuff .

I find them painful to watch , as if you can see them reading their lines 🙈🙈

wizzler · 21/01/2023 06:23

@AaandAway Grin

I kept wondering why Emily kept going outside without a coat

Very odd but love Mark Bonnar in anything

Andypandy799 · 21/01/2023 06:27

Started watching and I thought the chi graphics were shocking and looked very cheap and unrealistic

Gwdihooooo · 21/01/2023 06:28

I tried to watch it but dh works on a rig in the NS and he kept picking out flaws… down to the accents of the actors. He said if they truly worked on a rig you wouldn’t be able to understand them 🤣

ForeverMessy456 · 21/01/2023 06:33

It's terrible !!!

Enjoyed episode 1

Episode 2 was ok

Episode 3 I was losing the will

Episode 4&5 I genuinely wanted to give up

Episode 6 was promising then the ending was awful

beguilingeyes · 23/01/2023 15:36

I lost interest when they killed Mark Bonnar off #shallow

Ciri · 23/01/2023 15:41

Really poor I’m afraid. Brilliant cast, crap script and production. Those fake plants looked like they were off the reduced shelf at home bargains.

clearly lined up for a season 2 but who actually gives a shit?
