Apologies if there's already a thread, I couldn't see one.

Anyone else watching?

Supernatural thriller set on an oil rig off Scotland.

It's got Iain Glen (that's me, I'm in 😁), Martin Compston, Marc Bonnar, Richard People, Ser Alliser Thorne from GOT, a new Scottish actress (who's good) and Rochendra Sandall.

I'm deliberately not reading any reviews as I'm enjoying it and don't want to be put off.

Really hoping this will be good!

Awrite · 06/01/2023 17:45

I'm on episode 3 and loving it.

Oh saw this advertised earlier, so many great actors. Going to start it tonight!

On episode 4 now
Quite enjoying it

RampantIvy · 06/01/2023 18:06

Thank you for the heads up. Now we know what we are doing this evening.

I’ve given up into episode 2. Is it worth going on? When stuff started happening to that blokes arm, I just thought this was all a bit shit.

Faircastle · 06/01/2023 21:36

I love sci-fi and two of my recent interests are shipping containers (especially as used for accommodation on offshore rigs) and grab-bags. Enjoyed episode 1 but trying to ration it.

Awrite · 06/01/2023 21:38

,,@Faircastle - have you watched The Last Ship. More dystopian future but with your love of all things shipping ....

Ooooh, thank you! That looks right up my street.

Faircastle · 06/01/2023 21:45

@Awrite I haven't seen that yet, but will add it to the list. Is it available on Prime?

AnyFucker · 06/01/2023 21:46

its garbage

gawditswindy · 06/01/2023 21:50

Half way into ep2. Makes Vigil look measured and sensible. Hate the American woman (but I think we're meant to). I like the fact that Mark Bonnar's character is reading a book about the kraken.

Awrite · 06/01/2023 22:03

,@Faircastle - indeed it is. I binged all 5 seasons and loved every single episode. It really helped that the main character is effing gorgeous.

OP posts:
Awrite · 06/01/2023 22:05

@gawditswindy - American woman grows on you. All 3 women are pretty good in it (so far anyway).

OP posts:
MrsPutnamNaomiDarling · 06/01/2023 22:11

DH likes it. I think it's shite.

RampantIvy · 06/01/2023 22:41

Why does the American woman whisper all the time?

We binge watched 3 episodes tonight and are really enjoying it.

Where can we Watch The Last Ship @Awrite?

Awrite · 06/01/2023 22:56

,,@RampantIvy - on Prime. It's brilliant. About a Navy ship that spends 4 months off comms for in the Arctic and when they return to civilisation, a virus has wiped out half the population (or more). Collapse of countries, war etc.

Each season set in a different part of the world.

OP posts:
RampantIvy · 06/01/2023 22:59

Thank you @Awrite. That looks like it will be our next binge watch.

WingBingo · 07/01/2023 06:19

The American woman is Steve from Schitt’s Creek!

I’m enjoying it so far

WingBingo · 07/01/2023 06:19

Stevie, that should say

poorbuthappy · 07/01/2023 10:09

Just finished ep 3. Agree that it makes Virgil look reasonable. But it's enjoyable entertainment! But yeah Emily's acting style is doing my head in

Squarerootofpi · 07/01/2023 12:08

Watching this now and something is really bothering me about the way it's filmed but cant explain exactly what. The colours are too vibrant and the cgi too perfect. Also the way the camera swoops around makes me feel dizzy. It's like watching those interval scenes on computer games that are so good they almost look like real life 🤣 Whenever movies/TV shows are shot like this they have no atmosphere whatsoever and the acting seems wooden and fake. If it was dark and moody with appropriate background music I could probably get into it more. Maybe I'm just old!

Faircastle · 07/01/2023 13:41

@Squarerootofpi - I agree, I don't know if it's a conscious artistic decision.

There's a lot of filming through windows. It's probably supposed to represent something, but I'm not intelligent at that sort of analysis.

I found it weird that when IG was outside on the platform, there were sound effects for howling wind but his clothing wasn't ruffled and there wasn't a hair out of place.

eldorado02 · 07/01/2023 18:34

This sort of show is normally my thing, but it’s just too…American?! It’s set in Britain, stars mostly British actors, but has that veneer of uncanny valley that can be a feature of American shows and really lacks the grittiness of British TV. The actors are over acting, likely based on direction rather than impulse. I’m only two episodes in, and I will carry on watching, so I’m hoping it delivers a bit more oomph.

Belindabelle · 07/01/2023 19:00

Started this last night. I don’t like it but DH does so we are ploughing on.

The cast looks great but I didn’t realise it was sci fi. I thought it was going to be a suspense murder drama type thing. Maybe with Dougie Henshall joining in as Perez to solve the murder.
