I was wondering about the chances of brain injury in the twin who had a respiratory arrest. Since she had an unknown down time.
Surely they'd have spotted that she was seriously dehydrated before it got to that stage! Though they were a bit slow in starting a fluid balance chart. Did they really have to have the doctor to tell them to start one? (Or is that just my 21st century paediatric nurse brain!)

Lovely to see other fans of The Royal here, one of my favourite shows and I’m still cross we never got a decent ending to the series. Can’t believe how well Julian Ovenden has done with his singing over the years!

Crumpetdisappointment · 29/01/2023 13:58

i used to enjoy reruns of the Royal when i was off sick a few years ago

Crumpetdisappointment · 29/01/2023 14:04

Interesting point. Have there been any incidents of birth injuries or consequential brain damage for the infants depicted, thalidomide aside.

Toddlerteaplease · 29/01/2023 14:12

No, I don't think so. But some of them had very long down times. And would have had issues. Thinking the one where Northern Irish couple's baby doesn't breath and the husband runs off to her Tom to baptise him.

Was Trixie newly qualified in the first series? Can't remember - only that it was Jenny's first job.

Just wondering if she could have been a year or two older than 21? Especially if she qualified as an SRN in old money and then did midwifery as an add on which used to be more usual. I might be ever so slightly over invested here!

SMJ comment about the babies she had seen who didn't live got to me. Its really not that long ago that a lot of children did die.

(If anyone is after a nice comforting watch in a similar vein... Itvx has all the old episodes of The Royal)

Oh thank you! I absolutely love The Royal!

RachelGreeneGreep · 29/01/2023 15:17

I missed last week's CTM, will catch up later.

I think they are trying to have too many storylines on the go in the episodes of this series so far.

She seemed as though she was a bit more experienced, as though she'd been there maybe for 6 months or a year already? When Jenny is all cringy over the squalor and smells she gives her a bit of a "talk to"; in the vein of, I felt the same, but you get used to it and admire people for coping with it.

Jenny is 23 in the first series, so I'd guess that Cynthia and Trixie were of a similar age, or even a little older. 23, 24. Which makes Trixie 35ish now. Positively ancient!

But in all seriousness, I am 35 and wouldn't want to be room-sharing in a convent!

Sheila pregnant???

LIZS · 29/01/2023 20:28

Dr T should take his own contraception advice!

TheDogIsTooEarlyForTea · 29/01/2023 20:29

Have they added extra wrinkles to Sheila's forehead for this week to make her seem older?

ShakeYourFeathers · 29/01/2023 20:30

Imagine having to wait days for a pregnancy test result

TwigsAndPebblyShit · 29/01/2023 20:34

Back in the day they had to inject your wee into toads

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 29/01/2023 20:37

I reckon it's a false alarm for Sheila although I wouldn't mind the storyline. Or menopause/illness? How old is she supposed to be?

Interesting that they're fretting about affording their family size with 3 children at home and all at school (is Teddy school age?).
Wouldn't they be fairly well off with a GP's salary and Sheila's nursing/practice manager wage? I guess Sheila would be off work for a while but her work seems fairly flexible and even Chummy went back to work pt years prior.

Obviously she's not relishing the logistics and going through pregnancy and the baby stage again at her 'advanced' age.

Trinity65 · 29/01/2023 20:38

Dr Turner is creepily animated about a Vasectomy option

Elderflower14 · 29/01/2023 20:39

Why is Nurse Crane still with her?

TheDogIsTooEarlyForTea · 29/01/2023 20:41

I also think it is a false alarm. But it's going to highlight that she doesn't want any more children and open up the debate about the good Dr taking his own advice and getting a vasectomy.
