It will be taxable income for MH (if he keeps it). Hopefully he has the good sense to donate it to charity.

Thanks, I thought it must be. He'll be losing a chunk of it then.

To be honest I wouldn't do it for that money, well I wouldn't do it for any money. Living in the camp would put me off, I'm not keen on some of the people in there and I hadn't even heard of some of them before this programme. The bugs and food are the tip of the iceberg.

ikeawardrobe · 10/11/2022 12:02

I'm really quite shocked that BG is allowed in the Jungle to be honest given his background. I want there someone a few years ago who was removed from the jungle early doors when old tweets resurfaced? Can't remember his name but he was fairly young. Basically ITV allow a convict to be on the show.

Yes I thought the Australians were pretty strict about letting people with a criminal record into the country. I suppose ITV has some deal with them.

Most of us are intelligent enough to distinguish between how well he might perform professionally in a crisis (he was paid to do so) and whether he’s gone on an entertainment show for his own gain. He’s on there to entirely erase any preconceptions we might have of him, but thanks for trying to grow the narrative that he’s on there for charitable causes🙄 It’s for personal brand building- like so many other politicians these days- and he obviously doesn’t think it’s ‘too soon’.

Like Giles Brandreth, the Hamiltons, Edwina Currie and other politicians before him, he’ll no doubt reinvent himself as a meedya zeleb (no doubt presenting ‘HIGNFY’ one day in the future, it certainly didn’t harm the Boris career timeline).

I know there's something wrong with me but I still have the biggest crush on MH.

I thought maybe it was just the suit and podium, and hoped that seeing him in a fleece gilet would turn me off. Unfortunately it didn't. I was cringing but I still think he's utterly gorgeous Blush

I'm sure there were threads about this a couple of years ago, it wasn't you was it😂

PaulGallico · 10/11/2022 12:48

@IsisNo7 - so many times on MN you read...I have name changed because I am very senior in my profession and do not wish to be identified...I will keep an open mind but I am reasonably sure your post is nonsense.

@PaulGallico that’s exactly what I was trying to say in my post but a little more tactfully! Lol ! As soon as someone says NC blah blah it’s usually made up! Seen it so many times

Artichokepiglet · 10/11/2022 13:07

@User438651209 I was definitely on one of those threads, yeah 😂

Whereisthehugeteddybear · 10/11/2022 13:17

Regardless of whether its true or how nice hard working, sincere or good intentioned he was regarding decisions during the pandemic, for a lot of people he is a divisive and unpopular figure. (Not helped by blatantly breaking covid rules and publicly cheating on his wife)
MH might believe the public have perceived him all wrong, and maybe they have, but the whole situation is still pretty raw for a lot of people.

The other "disgraced but rehabilitated" MPs I think left a longer period before trying to re-invent themselves as likeable (Edwina Currie is possibly even more unlikeable from how she started which is impressive in itself)

ohyouknowwhatshername · 10/11/2022 13:23

Is MH the one who said 'watch your tone' to a female MP when answering questions in the HoC? I think he's smug and arrogant.

AnnieSnap · 10/11/2022 13:59

@IsisNo7 The NHS definitely did run out of PPE (not the the NHS is one entity since Thatcher. It’s fragmented into different Trusts, so some may not have run out). How do you explain the photos and videos of nurses wearing bin bags over their clothes? Not only that, but when the Government (MH was of course Health Secretary) discovered that they didn’t have the proper PPE (necessary to protect staff), they sent information to Trusts telling them they only needed to wear a plastic pinny and an inadequate paper mask. On top of all of this, Hancock gave the contract for the expensive, but inadequate PPE to a relative of his mistress, rather than a company with experience getting the job done.

Regarding his affair, they happen. We don’t know the state of his marriage, so I don’t take issue with it. I do though take issue with him carrying it on and snogging her at work when he was party to telling the rest of us that we couldn’t visit loved ones, or even attend their funerals in some cases.

Also, what is your defence of his decision to order Trusts to discharge elderly patients into Care Homes (you know, the places with the protective ring around) without being tested for Covid, whilst also standing at a podium telling us about asymptomatic carriers and that we must protect the elderly?

Vitriolinsanity · 10/11/2022 14:04

I have his number on speedial for every vote.

We don't have Trusts in Scotland. Sturgeon's government sent covid positive patients back into care homes which caused proportionally more deaths.

@derxa I’m sorry to read this. It was an awful decision.

JaneJeffer · 10/11/2022 14:15

Maybe he's hoping everyone will get used to voting for him and carry on when he gets home?

IsisNo7 · 10/11/2022 15:02

@PaulGallico @ilovebrie8
Well thanks for keepIng an open mind! I wonder how you come to the conclusion that people who NC to protect anonymity are usually fraudulent? And how would you know anyway? I chose to disclose my NC for openness. The NC option makes it possible for people with specific or inside knowledge to share insights that might be interesting. Things that couldn’t be said from a well-established user name.
I’m actually quite affronted that you use the fact I flagged a NC to suggest I’m a liar. It would normally be enough just to disagree with my views. Maybe I should NC again without flagging the fact then agree with everything I wrote earlier as that would apparently be more trustworthy.

He was a shitshow as Secretary of State during the pandemic. Absolute fucking disgrace.

I actually find hearing his voice wierdly triggering. The others getting him to say 'next slide please' made me feel sick. It's too soon (though never would be too soon for me tbf)

derxa · 10/11/2022 16:45

@derxa

I'd like to see Sturgeon held responsible for the unnecessary deaths in Scotland.
But she seems to get away with everything.

sorry, off topic.

I'll go back in my tunnel again.

JaneJeffer · 10/11/2022 17:12

If George had got away with what he did I could understand people going on and on about it but he took his punishment and did his time. He was an addict and mentally unstable when he did it.

She's good at hiding her misdemeanours I'll give her that. I was taken in by her daily party political broadcasts
