People on here already saying they are warming to MH. Just what he wants.
People are so easily influenced, it's no wonder the country is in such a mess. Matt Hancock laughs stupidly, acts the idiot and he's liked. Boris Johnson acts like a dick, oh yeah good bloke Boris, funny. These are not nice men. They don't give a shit about you and yours they just have a narcissistic need to be loved

👏🏼 exactly this. ITV are laughing all the way to the bank too.

hellswelshy · 10/11/2022 08:52

Definitely a strange dynamic now MH has arrived, not sure how I feel about it...hoping its not going to change the show, its a bit of escapism after all! Only read the last few pages but is it just me who thinks SW a bit uncomfortable to watch too in light of his past? Wasn't he found to be emotionally abusive to his ex partner?? 😕

I’m assuming the others in camp are deciding whether they should call him out or not, wondering whether that will win them the approval of audience, etc. I include BG in that, as he knows he’s in there because he was ‘forgiven’ as such, so would come across as a hypocrite. They’re all in there for cash and exposure, so will want to make sure they’re saying the ‘right thing’ and will be trying to second guess the audience reaction to ‘the cock’ joining them, except Owen- bless- who was obviously too occupied at the gym by the look of him, to watch the news and to really know who his new campmate is.

Totally agree

I hope Owen wins.

I dislike both MH and BG. I dislike BG for being a sexual abuser, and for thinking he can take the moral highground despite being a sexual abuser. I dislike MH, well, because he's MH.

IsisNo7 · 10/11/2022 09:58

NC for this. I’m a v senior civil servant and was drafted in to Dept of Health to lead one of the Covid measures. I’m not going to give any more details about that. What I want to say about MH is that he was probably the finest Minister any of us had worked for. I worked 110 hours a week, MH did more every week. Every decision made was about how to save lives. I know this because I was one of the people asking him for decisions. And sometimes a leader has to make unenviable choices, in which one set of people suffers to protect another, larger group. It’s the easiest thing in the world to criticise in hindsight but how many would have envied MH that task? Some companies made money without delivering useable PPE: others turned to producing masks, gowns etc very successfully and the NHS did not run out of PPE. Who would prefer it the other way around, with procurement-as-usual but no protective equipment for nurses? The usual Govt rules apply in peacetime, when there isn’t an overriding priority that sweeps everything else aside. MH understood that the pandemic was not peacetime and he stepped up. I’m grateful for his efforts.
I don’t watch IACGMOOH and don’t generally think it’s a good idea for elected representatives to do long -running shows that take them away from their day job. Lots of MPs have lucrative second jobs though, just with lower profile. I suspect that now MH is such a convenient scapegoat, removing the whip was done because it plays well with media and focus groups.
Someone asked whether MH ever does anything charitable. Since leaving Govt he has been directing his energies to campaigning for better understanding, assessment and support around dyslexia, for example to ensure every child in school is assessed so early diagnosis is available for all. Of course no one on MN has an interest in that subject so I wouldn’t expect him to be given any credit on here. And of course no one on MN has EVER cheated so I wouldn’t presume to suggest cutting the man some slack on that score either.
I just hate these pile-ons because they are bullying by an anonymous mob.

Ljavery · 10/11/2022 10:02

@IsisNo7 interesting to hear your view. Thank you. I must admit I thought well of Matt Hancock during the pandemic. I wouldn't have taken on that role for all the money in the world. I'm not sure what my view of him is now, but it's not all negative.

IsisNo7 · 10/11/2022 10:07

@Ljavery thank you. I posted that with a degree of trepidation!

"MPs aren't employed. There's no contract, no annual leave, no hours of work, no pension, no rights!"

They are expected to attend Parliament and represent their constituents. In return they get paid.
There is something like 16 weeks of recess in which to take holidays.
Why else do you think the Conservatives withdrew the whip?

I know that. I wasn't saying he has it hard. I was responding to the poster asking if they had a contract.

SavingsThreads · 10/11/2022 10:27

@IsisNo7

I agree with all this. I think there's very little understanding in the general public about how ministers operate. I don't blame people for their reactions as the last few years of gov have been like a pantomime, but the actual mechanisms of governing and policy development/implementation are hard bloody work!

@IsisNo7 read your post above and this may or not be true....that is the thing on here anyone can post anything and no one really knows if it is fact or fiction. This may be entirely true or entirely made up by a friend/family member of MH's family to give him a good spin. As you have said you have NC to post your comments so I am little sceptical....people need to keep an open mind and give him a chance as no one is perfect. I am giving him a chance and actually thought he was ok and he came across fine last night but that is based on what I saw not reading an unknown post on here by someone claiming to have worked with him...

I agree. Lots of decisions and mistakes were made during covid not just by MH. I can definitely think of worse MPs. When he cheated on his wife I did think he was a scumbag and made me question his morals. I think the campmates are more concerned how his presence will effect their image. I do love Owen and wish I could be in the Owen bubble l.

Artichokepiglet · 10/11/2022 11:32

I know there's something wrong with me but I still have the biggest crush on MH.

I thought maybe it was just the suit and podium, and hoped that seeing him in a fleece gilet would turn me off. Unfortunately it didn't. I was cringing but I still think he's utterly gorgeous Blush

IsisNo7 · 10/11/2022 11:32

@ilovebrie8 I guess it’s always good to be sceptical. I name-changed because I post quite a lot on another subject and the combination of those posts and this subject would make me instantly identifiable, which would be problematic for me professionally. I don’t mind anyone knowing I hugely respect MH but I’m not in any way related or a friend of the family etc. I won’t give details of the job I was doing on loan to DHSC because within the civil service it would identify me immediately. So you and others will have to decide whether you believe me- I can’t make you!

His clean shaven face and mouth and voice and body and hair is a no for me.

I think people just like to side with the underdog. He's not the underdog in life due to his power and privilege but he is in this show because a vast majority of the population, including his fellow camp mates, really dislike him without having met him.

@IsisNo7 I am always a bit sceptical about social media, in my job I have to have a questioning mind so I guess that never stops i.e. not taking everything as gospel...as I said I am keeping an open mind about him...and not going to be piling on. Everyone has their flaws
