I had to sort out DD2- and didn't realise the thread was full.

I think Diego's kit might be green and yellow,

Well done Ons!

Raahh · 06/09/2022 22:01

My Prime went off. I am going to make the most of dh's absence, and might actually get to sleep in my own room for a changeGrin.

The dog will no doubt still wake me up.

JaneJeffer · 07/09/2022 05:08

I am wide awake thanks to snoring DH but delighted to see the score

JaneJeffer · 07/09/2022 05:10

Come on Karen!

JaneJeffer · 07/09/2022 05:14

Damn it!

ChessieFL · 07/09/2022 06:12

Raahh · 07/09/2022 06:16

Hooray!

Raahh · 07/09/2022 07:14

Interesting really, after Wimbledon banned them- there are now 3 Russian/Belarusian players left in the qfs/semis in the US Open( men and women)- Rublev, Khachanov and Sabalenka.

Krygios’ being typically ridiculous in the press conference, saying that unless he won the tournament there was no point turning up. And it’s a waste of time playing anything but slams. So disrespectful to all the players who would be utterly thrilled to make a quarter final, he thinks he has a God-given right to win. He’s had a great year, deep runs in two slams, should be seeded top 16 in Melbourne, and still we have to listen to him moaning like a thwarted toddler.

kazzaD66 · 07/09/2022 09:22

Oh, deep joy!!! I've got a bad headache this morning but the news that Dick is out is helping me through it Grin God knows how many racquets he smashed! Apparently, the crowd were all rooting for him! There's no accounting for taste Hmm
DS saw the end of the doubles match when he lost to Glasspool and Heliovaara and said it was the same. K&K got a louder cheer leaving the court than G&H got when they won. I really don't understand everyone's love for him Confused

Fizzywinegum · 07/09/2022 09:22

He’s an idiot! So pleased that he lost - well done Karen

I bet Casper is pleased that he won’t have to put up with his nonsense in his next match

Raahh · 07/09/2022 09:46

Kyrgios is indeed a Dick. But the media will still fawn all over him.

I wonder if he is not confident about the outcome of his court case, so all the bluster over not playing is because in a few weeks- he might not be able to. We hope.

As for only showing up at slams if he's going to win- or any tournament- - in the 8/9 years we've had to put up with listening to what an amazing talent he is, so entertaininghmm]- this is the first year he's actually bothered to play properly, and has actually got anywhere. The Beeb might be happy to let him dine out on 'beating Rafa at Wimbledon in 2014' forever- but it's not enough really.

Raahh · 07/09/2022 09:52

It is insulting to all the other players. He shouldn't have even been in the Wimbledon final in the first place- he should have been thrown out of the tournament the second after he spat at someone. And then harrassed Stef in his match.

The US Open is always my least favourite slam anyway- so far this one has been overshadowed by the Serena show, Djok not being there and Kyrgios being a dick.

ChessieFL · 07/09/2022 10:54

Agree Raahh, lots of the matches I’ve been watching they spend lots of time talking about those three instead of the people who are actually playing. It’s very annoying.

Raahh · 07/09/2022 11:21

Chessie it really is annoying- Martina spent more time talking about Serena in the pre-amble to Ons/Ajla's match yesterday, than the players (or at least it felt like). I don't care. Hmm.
Focus on the players who are actually playing.

Well done Aryna

JaneJeffer · 07/09/2022 18:42

Eh? That's the same acronym Petch!

Raahh · 07/09/2022 18:52

I am missing this at the moment. Well done to Aryna.

It's a nice position to be in, where I don't actually mind who wins what. I would like Rafa to have the consolation prize of being world number 1 after the tournament. But that means Casper and Carlos have to lose their next matches.
If Ruud wins his next match, he will become number 1, as he will go about 40 points ahead of Rafa. Assuming Carlos doesn't then win the tournament.

it's all very complicated Grin it's a pity Rafa didn't win a couple more rounds- it wouldn't have been an issue then!

Fizzywinegum · 07/09/2022 19:12

I must admit even though I love Rafa I do enjoy watching tournaments when he’s not playing - much less stressful (although I don’t like to watch him lose either!)

I don’t really mind who wins now - I still think Alcaraz is a bit young but Rafa was only 19 when he won his first French open

Oh no it’s Jim again - I can feel my headache coming back …

Fizzywinegum · 07/09/2022 19:14

Wayne’s hair looks a bit wiggy!

Oh no Tim’s asked Jim a question that he doesn’t know the answer to (although he seems to know exactly where Wayne lives!)

Raahh · 07/09/2022 19:24

I have just switched on. Hard to tell which way this could go, really.

I think the Sinner/Alcaraz match later has the potential to be an epic- Sinner has been doing really well of late, and not really getting quite the same attention as Alcaraz. He could cause an 'upset' of sorts- since I think a lot of people would want Carlos to win.

19 is young to win- and Rafa was something special when he did- he won nearly a dozen tournaments that first year- including 4 masters. At 19. His slam win was definitely no fluke Grin

OP posts:
IceandIndigo · 07/09/2022 19:32

Yes it’s a shame the Alcaraz-Sinner match is on so late Raahh.

I’m hoping Big Foe can swing this one. I was reading about his story today. Didn’t know he’s the son of refugees and basically grew up in a tennis academy where his dad was the maintenance man.

Raahh · 07/09/2022 19:35

Yes, Big Foe's story is great.

Iwould love to watch the Sinner/Carlos match- but there is no chance I will stay awake today (might see scores during the night).
