This is a very tense match- I like Carlos, but this would be a great win for Marin. But- it looks like Carlos has got a handle on the 3 set, and could be about to go 2 breaks up.

Looks like Carlos is about to win this- both will be glad to get to bed, I think.

I feel sorry for Marin but he's had a good run this week.

It's going to be a tussle between Carlos and Casper to see who can push for the number 1 spot- (I would like Rafa to get that back for a bit that!).

Casper is playing Matteo this afternoon- so a bit torn on that one, as I really like both. I suppose- as a Rafa fan, and with an eye on the number 1 ranking- I should want Matteo to win- but I'd be happy with either. The winner plays Dick- so I suppose really I want the one most likely to beat him. Dick has yet another ongoing feud with Ruud- so that could be interesting (Casper is not a fan- no love lost between them).

I am not sonvinced Karen will trouble Dick- Khachanov can play very well, but the crowds and the atmosphere might be a overwhelming.

Yes, shame for Marin but a good win for Alcaraz. There was still a reasonable crowd at the end given how late it was!

It was pretty full, wasn't it? Chessie the crowds were big all day (probably due to the Labor day holiday effect).

Carlos looked pretty wide awake, considering the time- Marin, maybe a bit more weary.

I’m hoping Matteo will beat Casper purely because I think he has a better chance of beating Krygios. Glad Carlos is through, I couldn’t believe it when I woke up this morning and they were still playing!

Haven't seen any tennis the last few days. Too busy, plus trying to get everything together for DS going to uni! My baby boy is only here for another 10 days I'm trying to keep it together but I know I'm going to be a blubbering mess when we leave him in Exeter!!!

At least Dick got beaten in the doubles. Well done Glasspool and Heliovaara! The Brits are doing well in the men's doubles, although they'll probably now all lose in the quarters!
I see Bruno Soares announced his retirement the other day.

Oh, kazza - it's all such a big step, isn't it? I'm rubbish with change, so I always get emotional when things move on. Enjoy the last few days! (He will be back with smelly washing before you know it though).

Good news about the doubles. I am keeping everything crossed that there is a fluke result in the Kyrgios match. (And I'n cynical and think he probably threw the doubles so he isn't in both at the latter end of the tournament).

It is a big change when they go to uni kazza but as Raahh said he will probably be back soon with his washing (mine was!) Also they seem to have quite a lot of holidays (or reading weeks) so my DS came home quite often. He is now back living at home (I think I look after him too well!)

Casper has raced ahead against Berrettini - I managed to see the last few games of the Alcaraz/Cilic match this morning - couldn’t believe it was still going on

Rafa is being a bit noncommittal about when he’ll next play so not sure if he’ll be at the Laver Cup - glad that I didn’t remortgage the house to buy tickets! I think he’s worried about Xisca so will probably be glad to be back home

He also said you need to be fast and young to play tennis and that he’s neither of those things

I wondered what they were saying about Annabel’s hands - they are freakishly big

I don’t think I can cope with much more of Jim today - I’ve picked up some new glasses and they’ve given me a headache - I think I could see better with my old ones

Poor Rafa. The thing is, he's had a great year- 2 slam titles, semi final/4th round in the other 2.2 other titles. Final at IW. Unfortunately, he's had freak injuries- as well as his dodgy foot.

Considering how last year ended, this year has been amazing. But they talked about him yesterday like he was about to retire.

Talking of which, Kyrgios apparently hinted at retiring after this- we can but hope.

Should we do a novena?
