tense 5 part thriller

from the ones who made line of duty and vigil …..

joe (aiden turner) a clinical psychologist is called in to offer his expertise after a body of a young woman is found in a london cemetery

when Di Vincent Ruiz (Shaun Parker) and his new partner Ds Riya Devi show him the body their suspicions are aroused by his reaction

is he shocked by the brutality of the murder or is there something he didn’t telling the police

joe has been recently diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and starts acting strangely

I do love a good thriller /drama so Hope will be good

Right. Anyone else think that was shite?! I have so many comments!!

OnthePiste · 26/09/2022 22:08

Complete shite! Just like Crossfire, I thought it started well and got progressively worse as it went along. That last episode..I don't know where to start. Those Scouse accents for a start..

ClandestineAdulation · 26/09/2022 22:22

They were awful!

My main gripes are:

The shite accents
The fact that the Parkinson’s disappeared completely in the last episode and played no active part in the story
The completely ineptitude of the police
The fact that they left it until episode 5 to reveal that the Action Man Plumber was a bad ‘un… they could’ve integrated him into the story in a much more effective and powerful way, rather than just making him come across as the very friendly and conveniently placed tradesman
Also that the psychologist did exactly what you’d expect of a psychologist at the end… but that only had the best part of 5 minutes screen time

And finally… the police standing so close to the door of the house that they were told would blow up, the lack of emotion in the wife and child that they’d been held hostage and then their house had been blown up… and the lack of explanation and apology from the police.

Rant over!

IconicKitty · 26/09/2022 22:25

I also have so many comments...

Like, isn't it convenient that they needed a plumber, and the plumber they called happened to be Bobby's brother?

And, did no one in the house ever question why the plumber was there so much?

How did Bobby and DJ know Joe would even get released? He could have been charged with the murders and kept in custody

The police guessed remarkably quickly that it was a hostage situation, after taking weeks to come to any logical conclusions

What was the significance of Joe's colleague (the woman getting married). Infact there were many pointless plots that added very little to the story- his wife's pregnancy, his colleague who fancies his wife, the Parkinson's diagnosis

How did Bobby and DJ set up the murder of Catherine and make Joe look guilty? Were they following him all the time to make sure he had no alibi?

Why would Catherine apply for a job working for a man who she alleges was sexually inappropriate towards her? Why would her ex lover encourage that?

TheChosenTwo · 26/09/2022 22:32

How did they get the plumber in there in the first place? First episode the plumbing buggered and then they got the dodgy pumber!
jack owens really didn’t do anything.
nothing ever became of the pregnancy.
rather anticlimactic!

ClandestineAdulation · 26/09/2022 22:33

Agreed @IconicKitty, all very good points!!

I’ve seen lots of comments on Twitter saying that it all comes down to the child abuse storyline, but imo, it wasn’t mentioned nearly enough or explored in enough consistent depth to be the main storyline and ‘lesson’ of the series.

TheChosenTwo · 26/09/2022 22:34

Yes the colleague getting married was a bit of a random and pointless addition in the end!
added absolutely nothing to the storyline did it?

ClandestineAdulation · 26/09/2022 22:35

Yes, @TheChosenTwo, god knows how we were supposed to believe that it was a chance find of a plumber! And surely 2 fully grown adults couldn’t be so oblivious to the fact that their plumber was actually fitting a bomb in their house?? How did that go undiscovered??

Blocked · 26/09/2022 23:15

Ah I did enjoy it but yes way too many questions unanswered! Jack wasn't so much a red herring as a damp squib. And the police just walking off like ah hope you're ok bye! The descriptions of child sexual abuse were very uncomfortable listening. The actor who plays Bobby was very good and nice to see Aidan Turned back on the telly.

itsgettingweird · 27/09/2022 08:02

Just caught up this morning!

I enjoyed it. Thought the reason behind it was a good twist. We knew CSA but I didn't see that being the form.

I found it very sad.

Good words to end it though about man hurting man and woman. Very powerful.

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/09/2022 12:07

Well done who called it on the plumber !!

OP posts:
IconicKitty · 27/09/2022 12:25

I thought it was strange the plumber suddenly had a conscience and let Joe's wife and daughter go. This is the same man who killed Catherine is such a sadistic way (making her stab herself to death), never mind all the other murders. I don't think a person who could do all that would suddenly feel guilty?

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/09/2022 14:11

He did it for his brother

who didn’t seem that impressed

butterpuffed · 27/09/2022 15:09

I couldn't see the point of Jo having Parkinsons , most of us in here thought he'd been deliberately misdiagnosed by his so called best mate, Jack, who last night said they weren't really best mates at all !

The plumber wouldn't have been in it unless he was somehow involved but I never guessed how involved he was.

I did enjoy it but these dramas so often leave unanswered questions .

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/09/2022 17:50

Jack is def not a friend. Lunging at his wife

daffodilandtulip · 27/09/2022 20:44

I spent the first few episodes unsure whether to bother and then the last one was the only one that caught my attention properly! Agree about the odd pointless parts to the story. These things happen to children in real life, affecting lots of peoples lives, and I found that quite sad.

Samcro · 28/09/2022 07:34

god they were all annoying,
The accent Bobby did at the end was terrible, the police just looked stupid and I could never work out if the baby was main guys(see forgotten his name)

Blondeshavemorefun · 28/09/2022 08:12

Beardy mcbeardy 😂

thegreylady · 28/09/2022 08:55

We thought it was excellent and ,despite the inaccuracies and obvious fabrications, that final episode achieved a buildup of tension to rival anything we have ever seen on tv.

The actor who played Bobby is from Liverpool

Mooserp · 28/09/2022 14:23

The bit that I really didn't get, was when Beardy said that the only person who fitted the description of the man giving drugs in the club, was his mate.

Wasn't the description just - male, older than the woman who was killed, confident.

And there's only 1 person that could possibly be???

Clawdy · 28/09/2022 19:34

It didn't sound a bit like the plumber, which was a bit odd.

Romeiswheretheheartis · 28/09/2022 23:15

I thought the final episode was very good, really tense. With the added interest of the park they were in being what used to be my local park in London!

I'd started to suspect the plumber was suspicious, but didn't connect him to Bobby.

As someone else said, the actor playing Bobby is a genuine Scouser, son of another Liverpool actor, Andrew Schofield.

diddl · 29/09/2022 22:07

Enjoyed that but bloody hell the backstory!

Thought it was going to be the plumber behind it!

When Joe was arrested & Bobby was shouting that he was dangerous, as the policewoman walked along with him he gave a smirk & I thought bloody hell it's him manipulating others.

Blocked · 29/09/2022 22:30

Yeah I think we really needed to see a different side to the plumber at some stage for it all to add up. All we saw was the slightly worried looking unremarkable plumber bloke until the end when we just saw the worried looking feeling a bit sorry for what he's done plumber bloke. But I guess there's a message in that, the people who commit these crimes don't always look dodgy or act different, they're just people like us but very disturbed.
