I've been watching clips of Green Wing on YouTube. I'd forgotten how good it was.
Any other fans out there?

Yes, oh yes.

JRT makes one very fleeting appearance naked on a motorbike...
Just love Olivia Coleman and the almost-successful coordination of her kids (parents' evening, phonecalls to people remotely finding calpol 'down a bit...behind the Bob the Builder pasta', coming to work without all her clothes and not noticing)
It is a mad work of genius.

“Wrong sort of nine o’clock”

hedgehogger1 · 17/08/2022 23:18

Oh I'd forgotten it, it was fab :)

Jux · 17/08/2022 23:20

Very very dark and hopeless time for me when it came out. It was the light which told me there was a point to carrying on. Brilliant show. Have watched it a few times since, and it's still funny. Love the ridiculousness of it.

Nice fin!

Hodgewell1 · 17/08/2022 23:28

It was pure genius and I agree with earlier poster who compared it to smack the pony. Irreverent and slightly surreal humour which we Brits do so well. Also intrigued it was filmed at Northwick Park which is very close to where I used to live. It’s made me look on it a whole new way.

Ormally · 17/08/2022 23:28

Oh god, and Boycie! Reading out a filthy and badly spelt text message in a lesson to wind up Mark Heap and then throwing in 'Yes, and she's a primary school teacher as well!'

toffeechai · 17/08/2022 23:33

“When did you realise you were in the wrong exam?”

Talipesmum · 17/08/2022 23:46

Oh it’s sooo funny and so weird. The existence of a character like Sue White makes me so happy. And Tamsin Greig is glorious. They all are.

It was only when rewatching an episode of Spaced a few years ago that I realised Brian from Spaced is Mark Heap from green wing, Friday night dinner etc. Was unreasonably surprised!!

Is it ok that I fancied Guy more than Mac?!

I met Katie Lyons who played “Naughty Rachel” from HR last year and I recognised her from GW even though she looks totally different and has featured in more things since then. She was quite surprised I recognised her from GW, but I was so obsessed I watched it thousands of times so I knew her instantly!!!

I'm with you. The last time I watched it, I definitely had more of a thing for Guy than Mac! His kiss with Tamsin Grieg was just... 🥵

Absolutely loved it, and have had huge crushes on Julian R-T and Stephen M ever since. Tried to share it with my teen DC, but the quality on YouTube was just too dire. Will try again using OP’s link.

Guy-ball is my standout hilarious episode.

It's on All 4. Or it was during lockdown 1 when we rewatched it with the kids who bloody loved it.

GoingOnce · 18/08/2022 00:51

Ah, Green Wing. DH and I loved this in our pre-DC days, that really takes me back. I’ve had a crush on Oliver Chris ever since.

He plays Julia’s useless husband in Motherland doesn’t he?

Statham in the takeaway
Chocolatepringles · 18/08/2022 06:25

It's a bone.

Sally Bretton looks so different now. She played one of the office girls and is also Lucy in Not Going Out.

I love Green Wing! We were organising our DVD collection last week and DP nearly lost an arm when he suggested getting rid of my GW DVDs.
I cannot pick up my bag without saying "a haaaaaaaandbaaaaag?"

sarahc336 · 18/08/2022 06:54

I loved this and now I work in the nhs I can honestly say it's so realistic, the characters are so accurate 😂😂😂😂

josephjohnson · 18/08/2022 08:37

nocoolnamesleft · 17/08/2022 18:26

Not as accurate as Cardiac Arrest (the series that launched Jed Mercurio's career) but has its moments. The desperate, and unsuccessful, race to the canteen was realistic. And I'm sure I've met that radiologist.

Is Cardiac Arrest available to watch anywhere? I started watching Bodies, maybe I need to go back to it at some point.

DameHelena · 18/08/2022 09:32

Loved Tamsin Greig and her pass-agg overachiever flatmate/frenemy. Loved Sue White – utterly deranged. Stephen Mangan was MUCH better as Guy than when he plays nicer people, IMO.

It could be a bit crude and silly about sex, IIRC, but overall yes, it was mad and hilarious and a total original.

Am I just biased and old or was 90s comedy better? GW, Spaced, Drop the Dead Donkey, Absolutely Fabulous, The Fast Show, Adam and Joe, The League of Gentlemen, Brass Eye, and my all-time favourites Black Books and Spaced.

PritiPatelsMaker · 18/08/2022 09:34

I watched it for the first time during lockdown and thought it was brilliant.

mountainsunsets · 18/08/2022 09:36

Even I draw the line at piercing arseholes Grin

diddl · 18/08/2022 14:44

Oh goodness-JRT & Oliver Chris!

Loved the series.

Also loved Episodes with Tamsin Greig & Stephen Mangan.

UsernameIsAlreadyTaken · 18/08/2022 14:53

Green Wing is one of the best series I've ever watched.

Alan Statham and the spunk filled necklace he gives to Joanna 😂

Every character is utterly brilliant. I rewatched it a while back when I was feeling fed up and it had me in hysterics.

It brings back lots of happy memories for me, I feel like I need to rewatch it all over again.

whenwillthemadnessend · 18/08/2022 22:32

Christ that news clip is 2016 and nothings changed for junior doctors. 😡

Anyway love love love it. Must rewatch.

Fave scenes
The keyboard in the op room
Martin's portrait
Any scene with statham and Joanna

PrincessScarlett · 18/08/2022 23:26

Green Wing is just genius. All the characters are so good you just can't single one out. Re-watched some of it recently and still laughed out loud.

TheLeadbetterLife · 18/08/2022 23:29

It was absolutely brilliant. I fancied Guy more than Mac too - Mac was a bit smug and too cool for school.

IWillBeWaxingAnOwl · 18/08/2022 23:42

Adored it. So absurdist and so British

"Join me on next week's episode of let's make no fucking sense, where I will be waxing an owl"
"Would you like to put your lips to my rim? You may answer that last question but the rest were retorical"
"Bzz! You are not to mention spawn" and Sue White's "Fuck off" scrolling sign when she is interviewing Holly 🤣
