Ooh, can't believe I've missed tis thread. Australian Masterchef is SOOOO much better than UK that my whole family find it hilarious because I get so excited when a new season starts. I wish I'd discovered it years ago - I've only done about 6 seasons.

Does anyone find it annoying you can't risk googling any of the contestants because then you'll find out who won!? I want to google Julie but have to wait a few more days.

Personally, I think that the judges don't actually like Sarah. They think her "judgement" is wrong when she cooks. They're always questioning her menus and decisions. She's grown on me but I think there's a good chance she's out tonight.

I'm on the Facebook page and found out who one before it even started 🙄
Must remember to unfollow

GrandTheftWalrus · 21/10/2022 16:36

I won't be able to watch the final 😢

Dh has really got into it this series so I'll need to wait till next Friday when he finishes his nights. I'll need to avoid the thread.

LosingTheWill2022 · 21/10/2022 20:36

I'm gutted with who was eliminated tonight.

DeckardK · 22/10/2022 23:58

Just watched it and I did cry for the one who went, I wanted them to get to the final.

I've one I want to win, but I think there's been an obvious winner for a few weeks now...and I won't be disappointed as they are so talented Smile

GrandTheftWalrus · 23/10/2022 00:33

Now I really wanna know who went lol. Buy I shall resist looking it up.

I think obvious winner is a previous one.

LosingTheWill2022 · 24/10/2022 20:55

In case anyone hasnt watched tonight I'm letting you know I'm going to comment on who is in the final...

I'm not happy. Both talented and got through on merit but I haven't warmed to either. And I'm still irritated by the whole'favourites' competing against home cooks thing.
Sarah actually said how much she'd gained even coming 7th.
I feel a sort of injustice that more unknowns werent afforded that chance to learn by going through more stages.
(I know it's just a reality TV show and not world shattering 😄).
I honestly don't have any interest in the final now which is a shame.

GrandTheftWalrus · 24/10/2022 20:56

So I'm guessing it's Billie and Sarah in the final? No point watching now as Billie will win lol.

LosingTheWill2022 · 24/10/2022 20:59

I tried to warn you @GrandTheftWalrus !

SpacehopperFace · 24/10/2022 21:03

I'm thrilled with the final two. The one that went tonight drove me mad and I couldn't shake the feeling that they had had a lot of luck. The judges/guest cooks always seemed to help them out or alert them to dishes burning etc.

burnoutbabe · 24/10/2022 21:05

I am just struck by how similar they are.

Same long brown hair in a pony tail.

Not sure I care who of the 2 wins. Either would be okay but I would have been more pleased by Daniel or Julie or Alvin etc.

LosingTheWill2022 · 24/10/2022 20:59

I tried to warn you @GrandTheftWalrus !

If you hadn't said Sarah I wouldn't have guessed lol as I really thought Daniel wouldve done well. But I did say if a fan didn't win I wanted a previous winner to win to show they are good enough.

LosingTheWill2022 · 24/10/2022 21:15

Well at least you still have an interest in the final when you get to see it on Friday @GrandTheftWalrus 😄
Maybe Sarah will cause an upset ...

NotLactoseFree · 24/10/2022 23:23

@LosingTheWill2022 I am SOOO with you re the unfairness of the Fans vs Favourites. I'm very interested in knowing if there was backlash in Australia as a result of this decision to mix fans and favourites and not let the fans have more advantages. But I can't google it until after the final as I don't want to find out the winner.

Frankly, I thought today was a disappointment. After this many weeks, it was shocking that all three of them made so many unforced errors in terms of menu, timing etc. I mean, a mistake on the day, I can understand. But to be surprised by how long it will take to shell all those scampi or to choose a menu that seemed to exist mostly of pineapple... those are rookie mistakes that I wouldn't make and I'm not a semi-finalist on Masterchef.

DeckardK · 24/10/2022 23:50

The concept was just mad, far too much for one person to do and do well - what was the point!

You know what they say, the more you practice the luckier you get. HD did make a couple of basic mistakes. Which he'd done before.

I think that was the point. A bit of pressure could they think through a menu they could prepare on the time given.

Yay! My favourite won Grin

BigFatLiar · 25/10/2022 21:14

Good final.

So what's up next?

DeckardK · 25/10/2022 21:25

She was really amazing tonight, I thought she was the best for a while now and she really proved it tonight Smile

NotLactoseFree · 26/10/2022 19:46

She deserved to win. Although the other one grew on me. Finally watched it tonight!

ReviewingTheSituation · 27/10/2022 08:48

Is anyone else irked by the final task being a pressure test though? Loved the first task in the final, but I really don't like the final task being to recreate someone else's dish.. Surely they should be showing off their own creativity, flavour combinations etc etc. And it had greater weight too.

Plus the fact that Billie had worked with Heston before was unfair. I know they were at great pains to point out she'd never seen the recipe/dish etc etc, but she will have an insight into his methods, ways of writing recipes and so on.

I'm sure she was a worthy winner, but the way the final panned out was a disappointment IMO.

That being said, I LOVE Aus MC. SO much better than the UK version. And much harder to win! I'm sad it's over for another year, but at least MC Professionals is back next week, which is the best of the UK offerings.

DeckardK · 27/10/2022 19:12

I felt the other way actually, it would have thrown me as I'd gone there and realistically failed - I'd have hated to see my ex boss at the point and would have been flapping like mad for a while.

I agree. You could see from Billies face that her heart just sank when Heston walked through the door whereas Sarah was really excited to see him. I thought that was going to be the end for Billie at that point. I definitely think the right person won though.

GrandTheftWalrus · 28/10/2022 23:36

Finally watched. I'm glad Billie won. I wanted a previous winner to win if a fan didn't. So well deserved.

OnTheBoardwalk · 30/10/2022 19:40

Finally caught up!

the Tommy (didn’t see him at final) V Alvin elimination was the one that got me

i wasn’t overly concerned who won but I did think the Heston challenge was unfair especially when they commented they could see the precision more in Billies's 'desert queen' dish
