I was confused by the ending & Im confused by how many kids Rheneyra has

5, I think. 3 supposedly Laenor's ( but actually Harwin Strong's) and 2 new ones with Daemon ( whom she displayed to Viserys). Incredibly confusingly, one of the 2 new ones appears to be called Aegon? So now all the women have the same names, and the men too? Maybe someone can clarify.

WhathaveIdoneagain · 10/10/2022 21:58

@eltonjohnsglasses Rhaenyra has 5 plus bump so far.

RoachTheHorse · 10/10/2022 22:11

I'm not sure I'm enjoying this. Haven't a clue what's going on, don't know who anyone is, and no dragons. I've managed to keep up but multiple time jumps and actor changes in one short series us too much I think.

escapingthecity · 10/10/2022 22:29

@WinterIsComingKnitFaster the actor who plays Aemond was also in The Last Kingdom

eltonjohnsglasses · 10/10/2022 23:01

yes, is one of her step brothers Aegon too? will one be the mad king?

Rhaenyra has 5 plus bump so far.

I thought the bump had gone & she had given birth 😆

Claymorekick · 10/10/2022 23:03

Along with all the other confusing stuff already posted, I didn't understand why the boy who was to inherit Driftmark (not sure if that was Luke or Jace) looked significantly younger than his brother who is meant to be younger 🤪 bad casting IMO.

As a pp said, TV shouldn't be this hard!

Pawport · 10/10/2022 23:09

I think the one inheriting drift mark (Luc?) is the younger one? But the ageing is weird because Luc and Jace haven’t aged much but Aemond looks way older. In fact Alicent looks the same age as her children.
Where was Rhaenyra’s son Joffrey? He wasn’t in this at all was he?

FortunesFavour · 10/10/2022 23:34

Ooh it’s getting really good now. Although I can’t help but think how much trouble could have been avoided if only Rhaenyra had put some nice blond wigs on her sons. It’s all about the hair…

AnImaginaryCat · 10/10/2022 23:36

Joffery was there. He was sat at the table with had very large black hair. I think. Least there were three boys with black hair there!!

We can presume the King is dead - he said "my love" at the end. So reunited wit Aemma?

Don't really get what he sent Alicent off to do though.

FortunesFavour · 10/10/2022 23:47

Same here Imaginary Cat, I’m confused too. Can anyone explain what Viserys asked Alice to do on his deathbed? Something to do with preparing for the coming winter and prince that was promised (the luscious Jon Snow of course, swoon). I thought Viserys had asked Rhaenyra to sort all that out, so what was he asking Alice t to do??

Most compassionate of Alicent to naff off and leave Viserys to die alone 😂

gobblefiend · 10/10/2022 23:51

The dagger at the end is the one used to kill the Night King in GOT.

In the end scene, King Vicerys, in his delirious state, confuses Alicent (his wife) for his daughter Rhaenrya. Basically, Alicent misinterprets what is intended for Rhaenarys ears. She leaves the room now believing the king wishes her son Aegon to be king (as confusingly, both her eldest and Rhaenarys eldest share the same name Aegon). Something to that effect.

FortunesFavour · 10/10/2022 23:58

Aah that makes sense, thanks gobblefiend…. it also nicely sets the scene for a huge dragon-off to decide the successor, splendid.

Such a shame dragons aren’t real. I’d be well up for Wills and Harry to settle their differences via dragon fire. As for Andrew, a swift flaming would have saved a lot of bother!

No, Rhaenarys' eldest son is jacaerys not aegon. Incest rapey Aegon (alicent's eldest son) is the only Aegon currently alive on the show.

When Viserys referred to Aegon to Alicent (thinking she was Rhaenerys) he meant aegon the conqueror who saw the night walkers when he first took over westeros and linked them with a prophecy about the song of ice and fire which one of the earlier targaryens with a gift for future visions made. Viserys told rhaenarys about this at the end of the first episode when he showed her the knife and the runes on it in ancient valerian which talk about the Prince that was promised, explaining why a targaryen needs to be on the iron throne when the time mentioned in the prophecy comes to pass. He then made her his heir.

In this episode Rhaenerys asks him if he really thinks the prophecy is true ( in the scene in his bedroom before the court scene where she begs him to help her but he doesn't answer) - when he's dying his mind goes back to it so he thinks he's answering her that yes he does believe her so she needs to be on the iron throne and ensure the story (and the knife) gets passed down the generations to their successors.

Of course there's also the overlap with the fact that Jon snows real name was ALSO aegon targaryen and the "Prince/ss who was promised" was either him or daenerys.

gingot · 10/10/2022 21:06

What was the significance of the woman (not sure who) turning up to the other woman (also not sure who), who said something like 'it seems it been a busy night's

The red haired woman was alicent's servant/lady in waiting, who has been with her for ages. The dark haired one was daemon's ex-mistress, the one who he pretended was pregnant when he stole the dragon egg and Rhaenera came to take it back. In episode 2/3?

So basically the suggestion is someone alicent trusts is leaking information to someone that at least used to be on the other side - although we don't know if she left things with daemon on good terms as she wasnt seen again after he married Laena. Also interesting that of all the characters her age she's the only one who doesn't seem to have aged at all so there's the possibility they are setting her up to be maybe a red witch (like melisandre in GOT)

Sorry correction to this -rhaenyra's younger son IS called aegon but viserys was referring to aegon the conqueror rather than him when he was speaking to alicent - thinking she was rhaenyra.

Also just seen I've (or my phones autocorrect) managed to spell rhaenyra wrong in about 3 different ways in the last post!

FortunesFavour · 11/10/2022 00:31

Thanks latetothefisting (great user name!)

Gawd, it’s all a bit confusing, but I’m really enjoying it so I’ll try to keep up.

It was great when Daemon defended Rhaenyra by slicing that bloke’s head off when he called her a w*e (hate that word) - all very GoT.

I’m definitely on team Daemon.

BlackberryCat · 11/10/2022 01:16

This is what Paddy Considine said about Viserys:

“He’s actually suffering from a form of leprosy. His body is deteriorating, his bones are deteriorating. He is not actually old. He’s still a young man in there. He’s just, unfortunately, got this thing that’s taken over his body. It becomes a metaphor for being king, and the stress and strain that it puts on you, and what it does to you physically, what it does to you mentally.”

FromEden · 11/10/2022 02:05

I didn't understand why the boy who was to inherit Driftmark (not sure if that was Luke or Jace) looked significantly younger than his brother who is meant to be younger

No, he is meant to be the younger one. I presumed because one day his older brother will inherit the iron throne, driftmark is his title/inheritance

BlackberryCat · 11/10/2022 02:29

I think Jace is older than Luke. It’s hard to remember. I think Baela and Rhaena are twins but Baela is older and is now betrothed to Luke. I guess these characters will have more importance in future episodes so it will become easier to tell them apart.

AnImaginaryCat · 11/10/2022 06:24

Ah, OK latetothefisting.

Now all I need to know is why did Aliscent run off? What does she think he said? That pervy son I'd to be Heir?

One more question!! How come Perry Son is married to his sister, when we saw the agreement that she would marry her nephew (i would use names but I'm struggling. And also no clue how to spell then - can't look it up due to accidental spoilers!)

But an attempted, wasn't there an attempt to sooth things between them, where Rhaenrya propsed her eldest marries Alicent's daughter? Then last episode we discovered Pervy Son was in fact now betrothed (and this episode married) to her instead. What did I miss!!?

Wheretheskyisblue · 11/10/2022 06:31

This family tree helps with the confusion over names.

Don't look though it you don't want to know who will be king/queen next.

AnImaginaryCat · 11/10/2022 06:43

Also just want to check Baela and Rhaena, they are marrying Rhaenrya's two eldest son's (the two eldest of the three "strong" ones). Luc and ????.

Baela and Rhaena are Daemon's daughter's aren't they? (Their mother being the young girl who meant to marry their grandfather.) So now marrying their father's step-sons/nephews. At least all four cousins (?) seem pretty pleased with this set up don't they?

It is good they don't have big families. It would be way impossible then!!

eltonjohnsglasses · 11/10/2022 06:54

She leaves the room now believing the king wishes her son Aegon to be king (as confusingly, both her eldest and Rhaenarys eldest share the same name Aegon).

So there are two called Aegon? 🤯

Will one of them be the mad king?

PuppyMonkey · 11/10/2022 06:57

I don’t know about anybody else but I find the only way to follow the programme is to read the Guardian recap on Tuesday mornings. Here

Claymorekick · 11/10/2022 07:01

Thankyou for the explanation about Luc and Jace - makes sense now that it was the youngest one to inherit Driftmark. I could not understand it at all yesterday 😂
