True, but she’s always been bought good horses. She’s never had to ‘sit on shit’ as it were and a ready made dressage horse could take a lot of people to a very decent level. I know of a complete ametur who is a multi millionaire, knew nothing about dressage but had the money to import a couple of very talented and safe dressage horses over from the continent and can afford to train twice weekly with a top trainer and they got from a wobbly novice barely capable of a prelim, to competing PSG in a couple of years. Yes, they did put the work in, but if they’d have had a £5k Heinz 57 and access to an average trainer once a fortnight…there’s no way they’d be where they are now. Oops posted too soon the higher levels, but the horse has basically got them there as it could piaffe in it’s sleep.

I’ve seen Gemma ride, she’s good, but there are many that are more talented that won’t get the recognition she has on the dressage circuit because they don’t have the money or the connections. She wouldn’t be competing internationally (IMO) without the expensive horse and the connections. And I say that as someone who really likes Gemma and has the whole way through.

Women, who are with charming but controlling men tend to live their lives according to the repeated nudges they receive to act a certain way. Some stay, perhaps have children, then wake up decades later. I’ve seen this happen regularly on MN. Luca does seem to have been portrayed as controlling. In any case, hopefully once he is out and reading what the public is saying, this experience will give him the chance to reflect on his behaviour.
