That’s true about Gemma I don’t think she would have lasted, I don’t find her that likeable and she lacks personality. She’s always so serious.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 31/07/2022 12:49

I read Gemma very differently. I think she is more genuine than some of the others. I think she is also restrained after a lifetime of being in the public eye, so doesn't wear her heart in her sleeve. I am pretty sure she'll have been given a lot of advice before going on the show about how to/how not to behave.
Having read what ex-islanders have said about Luca being nothing like the way he's being portrayed, I wonder if he's been harshly edited? Not excusing some of his behaviour, but if that 10 minutes out of an otherwise lovely 24 hours it seems unfair. I read Ben Elton's 'Dead Famous' novelyrars ago. It's a cynical view of reality TV, suggesting that the producers decide how they are going to portray each person and edit accordingly. I know it was a novel but Ben Elton's not daft. I've taken all reality TV shows with a pinch or salt ever since.

That's sort of my point. Gemma isn't "playing the game" because she's probably been coached. She is a no nonsense character (I think that is genuine) and has 'matey', typical teenage bantering relationships with guys. But as far as her and Luca go - it seems way more unnatural and calculated than any of the other couples.

Carrotzen · 31/07/2022 13:03

@RockingMyFiftiesNot It's not really unfair though

He has behaved poorly towards to Tasha, he has said all the various underhand digs and he has said and behaved poorly towards to Gemma. No amount of editing forces words into someone's mouth. Yes the other 23hrs might be lovely but that doesn't make it okay and it doesn't mean Gemma should put up with it. Controlling people are rarely controlling all the time, only when they need to be

I suspect its more you don't notice it in the villa because it's hidden amongst nice behaviour, but that doesn't mean it's not there or that he's a decent person.

Lampzade · 31/07/2022 13:04

StaticRatic · 29/07/2022 23:22

I was thinking about this earlier @Carrotzen . Who would pretty little thing most like to give a deal to?

Not Gemma, as she is now, I don’t think. She has her own swimwear line already.

Apparently PLT or Boohoo were following Indiyah.

Aquarius1234 · 31/07/2022 13:07

If Gemma had been given lots or advise before going she would have been told not to use the F word all the time...
We all know they don't show sex scenes now and no nudity. So other than that not much else to avoid when going on LI! You can't exactly refuse to play the games or wear the clothes/ makeup. Heels.
And there is so limited alcohol that nothing ever kicks off and when it may do you get chucked out.

Carrotzen · 31/07/2022 13:08

Gemma is also 19, and I think seems actually quite awkward a lot of the time. I know she's been in the public eye for years but equally she's 19 surrounded by 26/27 year old men and I think she doesn't always know how to behave. I felt that when they went on the girls date recently she seemed very awkward

Aquarius1234 · 31/07/2022 13:09

And like PP have said the main show is totally staged now and set up convos.
I would not even say 5% is natural goings on. So she has nothing to worry about.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 31/07/2022 13:10

I don't disagree with you. That behaviour was very wrong for sure. What concerns me is that if they were isolated incidents and the rest of the time he was very lovely (as ex Islanders seem to suggest) then people basing their views of his overall character on what they have seen in short TV clips is wrong. There are also suggestions that at least one of the people being portrayed as very lovely really isn't - but we don't see that so base our view of their characters on what we see.

WinterDeWinter · 31/07/2022 13:11

I'm surprised that Davide wasn't picked as the pantomime villain rather than Luca. He looks a lot like Robbie Rotten, just needs a thin moustache to twiddle.

Aquarius1234 · 31/07/2022 13:11

If she was in the public eye all her life I'd be surprised. A few photos with parents in Ok magazine every 4 years. Isn't MO very private. Never gets papped fairly boring.

Carrotzen · 31/07/2022 13:11

I think Paige is your traditional PLT/boohoo plus maybe Indiya

Tasha seems more asos
Ekin Su I feel would get the more Maureen's Higgins deals like underwear

Gemma I have no idea

This is how I feel about Luca.
He may not be horrible twenty four hours a day, but even those little snippets give one an idea about what he is like .
Controlling men are often very charming which is why their controlling behaviour is not always apparent to others, particularly those who are around them.

Aquarius1234 · 31/07/2022 13:13

Gemma prob wants to sit do nothing and get pampered and see 10 million roll into her account in the next year .
Pretty easy.

Carrotzen · 31/07/2022 13:14

@RockingMyFiftiesNot but he's not lovely because he's behaved like a twat on several occasions. Overall character is a bit irrelevant, 10 minutes of dickhead behaviour still makes a dickhead

Picoloangel · 31/07/2022 13:22

@RockingMyFiftiesNot I agree of your assessment re Gemma. I think she’s been coached and is quite media savvy.

I wasn’t following this thread last year but I’ve often wondered whether Liberty was actual the biggest game player of all time.

Lampzade · 31/07/2022 13:27

Tillsforthrills · 30/07/2022 08:46

Tasha and Andrew seem like the only couple that might stay together for a while at least once out.

Tbh it is really hard to predict which couples will stay together.
I didn’t think that Mollie Mae/ Tommy Fury,, Finlay/Paige, Callum/ Molly and Teddy/ Faye would last outside the villa. However, they are all going strong
Also Camilla is married to the chap that she was paired up with and they have two kids. I didn’t see these two lasting,

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 31/07/2022 13:32

10 minutes of dickhead behaviour still makes a dickhead

Not sure I agree with that but let's beg to differ.

I guess all I was saying is we only see what is captured and edited so shouldn't be so quick to judge. Unless we know the characters personally, we don't really know.
God I'm so glad my kids have never wanted to go on reality TV.

Pretty easy.

Gemma is an international dressage rider, the type that takes hours of dedication to master and compete at the highest level. Doesn't sound like someone that wants to sit and do nothing?

I read that too interesting book. Have you read Blind faith another of his about 24-7 social media. I think he saw what was coming.

@thatsnotmynamec no I haven't, will give it a go
