Not sure about this but has good reviews so ……..
e1&2are tonight
The six-part Australian series stars multi-award-winning actress Anna Torv (Mindhunter, Fringe) and Sam Reid (Prime Suspect 1973, Lambs of God)
The show centers around the frantic, busy heart of a commercial TV newsroom set in the 1980s, while following the relationship between an ambitious young TV reporter and the star female news anchor.
Created by award-winning writer Michael Lucas (Offspring, Five Bedrooms), the series depicts the dramas and tensions of this high-octane workplace as well as investigating the political and personal power struggles of the world.
The Newsreader comes to BBC Two and iPlayer with a UK release date confirmed for Sunday, 24 July at 9PM.
A teaser shares: “Torv plays Helen Norville, a glamorous and talented newsreader and, in the chauvinistic world of TV news, often overlooked. Helen finds herself partnered with junior reporter Dale Jennings (Reid) and their personal and private relationship will be set against the very public pressures of reporting some of the most iconic news stories of the era to the nation.”
Further casting includes Robert Taylor (Longmire), Logie Award winners Stephen Peacocke (Five Bedrooms, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot), William McInnes (Unfinished Sky, Blue Heelers), Chum Ehelepola (Lodge 49, Lady Dynamite), Michelle Lim Davidson (Utopia, Get Krack!n), Chai Hansen (The New Legends of Monkey) and Marg Downey (Fast Forward, Top of the Lake: China Girl).
Sue Deeks, Head of Programme Acquisition, BBC, said: “The Newsreader is a superbly made drama which cleverly interweaves key news events from the period, 80’s nostalgia, office politics and personal relationships in a thoroughly engaging and entertaining style

I’m watching it on iplayer at the moment, just finishing episode 2. It’s REALLY good. I have a terribly short attention span but I was hooked from the start.

HeyMicky · 25/07/2022 12:52
My first thought was, Jan 27 and she's wearing a trench coat? Also, day after Australia Day and no one is hungover No way the newsroom would have been that diverse either
But love the historical references. And the set dressing is excellent.
But William McInnes I'm feeling very old indeed
Blondeshavemorefun · 25/07/2022 23:57
I didn’t even think of the weather
butterpuffed · 26/07/2022 18:03
Just watched ep 1 on catchup , didn't realise there were two in a row, so I now feel quite safe to watch the next one and I'm still with tv pace !😆
It's very good , a bit quirky which is my type of thing. I do think the bbc dramas are better than others.
Blondeshavemorefun · 26/07/2022 21:14
I think many will miss it as on bbc 2 not 1
CheeseCakeSunflowers · 26/07/2022 22:40

butterpuffed · 27/07/2022 17:38
Now caught up with episode 2. Thoroughly enjoying it , so many backstabbers work there , the things they say are outlandish but entertaining !
You're right about people missing it as it's on bbc2 @Blondeshavemorefun . I only knew about it as you'd started a thread. Thanks !
Blondeshavemorefun · 27/07/2022 18:12

I've watched it all now - loved it!
No spoilers but I was living in Melbourne and was directly involved in the event covered in episode 4. I'll say more (if anyone's interested) after it's shown.
JustDanceAddict · 29/07/2022 15:30
Only one episode left, really enjoying it!
