heads up. Starts Sunday

New drama starting for 4 nights 8 episodes of 30m so 2 a night

drama series - an adaptation of the Danish drama Forhøret - stars Nesbitt as long-serving detective Danny Frater, who receives a major shock after conducting what he assumes is a routine ID check on a dead body. It turns out the body is that of his estranged daughter Christina (Imogen King).

To make the situation worse the doctor carrying out the post-mortem tells him his daughter's death was caused by suicide.

But Frater doesn't believe the post-mortem and sets out to uncover the truth about what really happened to her.

Joining James Nesbitt in Suspect are a host of big names, including Richard E. Grant, Anne-Marie Duff, Joely Richardson, Ben Miller and Niamh Algar. Nesbitt has spoken highly of his co-stars on the show, hailing the “amazing” strength of the cast..

Suspect sees Frater working through a list of potential suspects episode by episode - with one of those suspects being Christina’s mentor, Harry, played by Grant. Gradually, Frater pieces together a clearer picture of his daughter’s tragic decline.

This isn't what I expected it to be, it's all a bit strange , but I want to see what led his daughter to her death .

JN doesn't play a very likeable character so far and his overwhelming grief must be partly due to guilt as he doesn't seem to know much about his daughter.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/06/2022 22:38

Def strange. And yes sure guilt is over not knowing /seeing his daughter

Yes, we gave it two episodes and are now giving up
It's oddly theatrical
Characters are unpleasant and unbelievable
Can't be bothered really .

BitterAndTwistedChoreDodger · 21/06/2022 00:50

I'm hanging in there, agree it's a slow start, just hoping the drama will ramp up at some point.

lazymum99 · 21/06/2022 08:38

Fell asleep during the 3rd episode. Sherwood is far better.
if anyone has watched ahead should I keep going?

LadyEloise1 · 21/06/2022 09:00

His poor wife - the mother of his dead daughter - whether by suicide or murder ( obviously murder but officially suicide atm ) and he hasn't found time to rush to her side, to be with her at this awful time.
Suspension of disbelief.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/06/2022 09:52

I may have fallen asleep in e4

dont rem seeing her mum /ex wife

is Ryan his ex partner

Anne Marie Duff is the mother Susannah.
She has been texting James Nesbitt.
She hasn't appeared on screen yet to my knowledge except in the opening credits.
Was it Ryan who had called in sick in Ep 1 which meant JN had to go the mortuary ???

PurpleWisteria · 21/06/2022 10:17

Binge watched it and glad i stayed the course.

Richard E is always watchable.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/06/2022 10:38

I thought he said something to the man in club about not being with him anymore

missed the texts

whst did they say

only got to the ad breaks and gave up. Found it awful - neither character/actor believable and I lost sympathy when he grabbed the keys and legged it. Just ridiculous!

There's better series on TV at the mo - will stick to Sherwood!

Totally agree. Watched first two and don't know how they managed to act with straight faces. Totally unbelievable, badly acted in the most and I'm stunned that big names put their names forward to be in this desperation after not much work during lockdowns?!

DB works in film and TV but not ran this past him yet.

LadyR77 · 21/06/2022 13:12

Watched the first 2 episodes and abandoned it - cancelled the series link recording. Dire script, hammy acting - such a disappointment as I'd really been looking forward to it!

You and me both! I thought the cast looked excellent and looked forward to watching something compelling.

The ending of 1 episode then straight into another slightly irritated me but I could've coped with that if it was ok!

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/06/2022 14:53

It’s worth continuing. ESP as on all week

I am intrigued who killed her and what she got herself into

LadyEloise1 · 21/06/2022 15:30

Why 2 half hour shows instead of one 1 hour show - Can someone explain please ?

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/06/2022 15:57

I’m assuming was meant to be maybe on for 8w but then decided better to have on all week

butterpuffed · 21/06/2022 17:31

I think it's just because he's with a different person for each half hour of the programme @LadyEloise1 .

I still want to see how it finishes but the acting is so ott 😅

howdidigethere · 21/06/2022 17:46

Sorry, didn't think much of this at all. I became quite irritated with the unrealistic situation, aggressive dialogue, unconvincing characters....something a bit off. Made it half way through episode 2 and gave up. Big name actors, script and ideas are tosh.

Makes a change for me !

LadyEloise1 · 21/06/2022 19:24

Thank you @butterpuffed
I was wondering was it because it was thought the viewers couldn't concentrate for an hour of it 😀
Then I remembered it wasn't BBC and there were ad breaks.

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/06/2022 19:26

On demand think it was 23 mins 😂

Blondeshavemorefun · 21/06/2022 21:18

I’m wondering if it will actually be suicide in the end and not murder
