Binged it, loved it, binged it again to Shazam all the music!!

Anyone else watched it?

Gay, geeky teen falls in love with supposedly straight, popular, rugby playing lad. Just very sweet high school drama.

I’m happy that Heartstopper was relatively upbeat and chaste on screen while being totally accepting and normalising of LGB and straight sexualities. It’s being watched by a lot of pre-teen kids so not going straight to the character’s issues around having sex or not is good. The focus just on relationships is rarely seen on screen and is actually quite reflecting of real life.

I liked that the show will hopefully encourage fans of the show to have high expectations of what they expect and put up with from their friends and their boyfriends and girlfriends IRL.

I massively related to the parents in it- the dad anxiously dropping Charlie off each time and Nick’s mum when he came out to her in his (perhaps a bit too mature and well articulated?) coming out moment. Or maybe he was just confirming what they’d both known for a while so it didn’t need to come with any serious anxiety. Real life is so much messier. The series feels nice and escapist while dealing pretty well with some important subject matter.

IRL with kids at 15 years old, the parents would have been constantly trying to have safer sex chats with their kids.. but I’m happy that the Heartstopper TV series just lets the kids be kids for a bit- as 15 year olds still are a lot of the time, in a nice way. The silly moments and the sweetness and lightness of it all is nice to watch.

I hope they make Charlie’s older sister a bigger character in the next series. And Isaac who was too one dimensional. How did he feel about everyone else in his friendship group coupling up? And where does Imogen fit into all of their friendships?

The good news is that the more I watch it the less I have naughty thoughts about Nick 😂

I have finally accepted the actor is a teenager and not someone I should fancy 😂

I think in so many teen dramas the actors are actually in their 20s or even 30s. It’s unusual to have age-appropriate actors in something like this.

so glad I found this thread !!
my teenage dc enjoyed the books and shows very much and recommended I watch -
I was overwhelmed with the sense of warm emotion from watching it !!

It’s like it invokes a sense of love in me !! 🤣🤣

and since then I’ve been thinking about Nick / Kit and feeling very guilty about it !!!

reading this thread I realise I am not alone and it seems to be about the way he looks / treats and sweeps Joe off his feet - literally at the end ! And it’s so romantic and lovely 🥰

There is something about Kit! He is a brilliant actor and seems like an extremely genuine and special young man. The chemistry between Kit and Joe is magnetic 💛💙

Exactly…..so when I was lusting after Nick in his school uniform I genuinely thought I was fancying a 25 year old…..not a teenager 😂😂

The Dcs and I have just discovered this today! We watched the first 3 episodes of Series one.

LOVING it!! What great characters. Great storyline. Great acting!

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 13/02/2023 22:54

How did you stop at the end of episode 3? It’s great. Enjoy! Series two will be out sometime soon I hope. They finished filing it last year,

CheerfulYank · 21/02/2023 03:19

Ooh am I too late?! I just binged the whole series and then made my 15 year old sporty (straight) son watch it as an example of how NOT to behave (Harry and the others). And now I’ve bought the first book. 🤣

I love seeing all the other women my age who love it too. I remember reading something with Olivia Colman saying she would’ve adopted Kit if it had been an option. I totally understand! In his coming out scene I said “oh his little FACE” 😭 to myself in the living room…and then I watched a blooper real where Olivia forgot her lines in that part and said “it’s just, your little face!” I love it.

How is everyone finding the book, if you’ve read it? I’ll go back over the thread and look :)

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 21/02/2023 07:24

I love the books too - they are graphic novels so you get through them really quickly but all the sweetness from the books is there in the tv series. I read the books first and was worried it wouldn’t translate but it did. There is one more heart stopper to be published and some novellas with Nick and Charlie in them - This winter and Nick and Charlie I think. Solitaire is about Charlie’s sister and set after Heart Stopper - but the first one she published. Aled (who is replaced by Isaac in the series) appears in Radio Silence. My favourite book is Loveless which doesn’t have so much crossover with the Heart Stopper Characters but I think is the closest to Alice Oseman’s life experiences.

Ooh! Thanks for the heads up. I had seen it was coming to Netflix soon, but hadn't seen the trailer.

I’ve got to cancel my holiday now

User16496743 · 28/07/2023 08:18

Red, White and Royal Blue is also out on Prime on 11th August and will inevitably appeal to a lot of Heartstopper's audience (looks like enjoyable trash from the trailer IMO)

ISpyCobraKai · 28/07/2023 11:03

I'm so excited for this.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 28/07/2023 11:09

August is so exciting - less than a week to go to Heartstopper, two weeks today for Red White and Royal Blue - The book is really good so I have high hopes for the film (although it is rated 18+ on prime so can’t watch it with the Heartstopper fan DC). Then it’s A level results the week after (bit of a tangent there but on my August count down list)

jay55 · 28/07/2023 11:59

Plan to download for the plane. Ready for some lighthearted romance and shenanigans

Simonjt · 30/07/2023 19:36

We’ve been on a little (child free!) weekend away in Kent, we spent today having a picnic at Herne Bay, we had a go on the merry go round too.

ISpyCobraKai · 30/07/2023 21:44

Hang on, I thought it was filmed in Broadstairs?
Anyway though NVM I'm so excited for it, and waiting for the release date of S3 of Young Royals and S7 of Elite!

ISpyCobraKai · 30/07/2023 21:54

@Simonjt reading back, I see we'd chatted a bit.
I saw Brokeback Mountain in London a few weeks back, if you can go, then do, it was brilliant, I met the cast at the stage door after too.
Totally fangirled over Eddi Reader!

Secretname123 · 02/08/2023 20:57

I loved this show and really looking forward to season 2. I’m hoping I haven’t spoilt it for myself because I became a bit over invested in the heartstopper fandom this year! I came across it on Twitter and it was mad and a very eye opening insight into how todays teenagers are behaving online and how they view things. Has me quite worried for pre-teen DD to be honest. It’s such a lovely show but the fans are crazy!

SarahAndQuack · 02/08/2023 22:08

The link below has the first five minutes of the first episode of season 2, don’t click if you’re avoiding all spoilers.

Thanks for this. Oh, isn't it a great show!

I am still just bowled over by how important this kind of representation is, and how rare it is.

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 02/08/2023 22:28

One more sleep! Thanks for the link - so joyful!
