Real life story

John a former teacher and prison officer fakes his own death in 2002 via a canoe - with the help of Ann his wife to claim Life insurance and avoid bankruptcy

It is based on an unpublished manuscript by reporter David , he was the first one to find and interview ann after a boot of the couple was seen 5yrs later in 2007

Ann knew but not the sons who believes their dad was dead

The Photo was def their bane of their life and how they got caught

Sometimes John seems very simple

Still don’t bet why they didn’t sell the other 12 rental properties to try and get some money to pay debts

Will tomorows show courtroom scenes or in prison

So they got 6yrs but out in 4

I would find it very hard if I was their sons to forgive both parents

The bloke is coming across as an abusive bullying tit.
I have no sympathy for him at all. I googled him and he married a Thai woman 23 years his junior after knowing her for less than 2 months.
The sons do speak to their mother but not their father so I was wondering too if he was abusive and they witnessed it.
Was Anne really as worn down and submissive as this is implying?

The sons testified against her mother, who lied in her trial, so I doubt they saw any abuse, if any abuse happened.

Annoys me when Northern = Geordies. Not the case literally tone deaf.

Watched it on Britbox. I did enjoy it despite the bad accents. I remember when the Seaton Carew sign was changed to Seaton Canoe.

Members of the armed services can take out insurance specifically but I doubt if a volunteer his age would get it.

It’s just so bizarre. John is coming across worse as each episode goes by. I can’t decide if Anne is a liar or a doormat.
Im also puzzled as to why she got a longer sentence than he did. Seems misogynistic to punish her more when it was his idea.

Think hers was longer as she lied for longer. She could have said no but continued with the lies

to their sons and the world

The interview on This Morning with the journalist implied she got longer as she pleaded not guilty

Her solicitor told her that an unsuccessful Not Guilty plea would result in a longer sentence.

The library card did make me laugh. Two weeks after the disappearance he applies for a new flipping library card! Because it’s what you do isn’t it.
