Real life story

John a former teacher and prison officer fakes his own death in 2002 via a canoe - with the help of Ann his wife to claim Life insurance and avoid bankruptcy

It is based on an unpublished manuscript by reporter David , he was the first one to find and interview ann after a boot of the couple was seen 5yrs later in 2007

Ann knew but not the sons who believes their dad was dead

I’m looking forward to this too. It’s one of those stories we’d be berating for being too far fetched and implausible were it not based on a true story!

Coincidentally I told teen DD about it a couple of weeks ago, no idea why it came up. She's looking foward to the TV series.

It was a huge story when it came out. The husband and wife both seemed like ordernary, everyday people, which is why it’s so fantastical.

It was a massive story at the time. Can’t believe it was that long ago.

I listen to a podcast series called British Scandal (would highly recommend) and they covered this a few months back

One of the guys playing the sons has been on loads recently, Trigger Point, White House Farm, The Girl Before
