New drama on a Monday - 4 part drama

Olivier award winning actor, Conleth Hill (Game of Thrones, Dublin Murders, Vienna Blood) plays local police officer Sergeant PJ Collins, a gentle man who hides from people and fills his days with comfort food and half-hearted police work. He is one of life’s outsiders, lovable, but lonely and a bit rubbish at his job.

When the body of long-lost local legend Tommy Burke who vanished 20yrs ago , is discovered, PJ is called to solve a serious crime for the first time in his career. Unearthing long buried secrets, PJ finally connects with the village he has tried so hard to avoid.

Siobhán McSweeney (Derry Girls, Nowhere Special, Anthony) plays vulnerable, messy Bríd Riordan. Bríd had been due to marry Tommy before his untimely disappearance, whilst Charlene McKenna is youthful, stuck Evelyn Ross who desperately loved him. The two women are at the heart of the community and neither is above suspicion.

Brenda Fricker takes the role of Lizzie Meany, a shy presence in PJ’s life who has been battling her own demons and secrets as PJ comes to discover…

Episode 1

When human remains are found in a sleepy Irish village, Sergeant PJ Collins finally has a genuine crime to solve. As the gruesome discovery ripples through the community, it threatens to expose a lifetime of secrets.

Florence?

Blueberrycreampie · 04/04/2022 22:36

Watching this on plus 1 . Only thing I can think at the moment is why the hell while they're sitting at the bench didn't he leave the car doors open to remove some of the sick smell 🤮.

Blueberrycreampie · 04/04/2022 23:43

Thanks all of you who didn't give away any spoilers, so I won't either. I'm ok with the ending, and have enjoyed most of this series. I can imagine the book was very good, somI may well read it, or another of his. Any recommendations?

purpleme12 · 04/04/2022 23:55

You can do spoilers now because it's been on tele now

purpleme12 · 04/04/2022 23:55

I have to say by the end I just thought it was s strange programme really

CaptainMyCaptain · 05/04/2022 07:19

One minute he was behind Florence with his lights flashing and then.... Nothing. Did I blink and miss something?

PrincessScarlett · 05/04/2022 07:25

It wasn't PJ chasing Florence, it was another police officer pulling her over for speeding or something.

CaptainMyCaptain · 05/04/2022 07:31

OK thanks, I probably did blink then. Did he decide to let it go although he suspected she was involved in burying Tommy? I thought he left the house and set off after her.

PrincessScarlett · 05/04/2022 08:25

It made it look like that but he obviously decided to let it go as the sisters had been through enough.

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/04/2022 10:28

Fair game to talk about it once on tv

If anyone has read the book and watched the series - did they change the ending? I was sure PJ and Breed (sure you don't spell it like that but the lady off the pottery show) got together at the end.

Did they change it or have I just misremembered it?

Clawdy · 05/04/2022 20:29

I loved this, funny, dark, and brilliant acting, particularly PJ and Evelyn.

I hoped they would as hubby doesn’t love her

I hoped they would too! A happy ending would have been nice.

It wouldn't have been so happy for her children. She prioritised them, decided her husband wasn't so bad and kept the farm together. It would have been wrong to leave them all to it after what was just a fling. The fling made her feel more attractive and better about herself though.

Sad for PJ though Sad

After being a bit ambivalent after ep 1, I really enjoyed this. Just the right side of humorous without the characters becoming predictable stereotypes.

Yes. Sadder for him than her really.

I very much enjoyed it too and now want to read the book and Graham Norton's others.

thinking123 · 06/04/2022 15:38

For those who read the book, is this a close adaption.

BIWI · 06/04/2022 15:59

It's a while since I read it, but as far as I can recall, I think so.
