Don't think anyone else has started a thread.
I didn't realise it was starting again but its on tonight BBC 2.
I'm watching on catch up now. Anyone else?

Is it Manoj that likes to whang in a "mini-pond" that is basically your recycling box with the holes stopped up so it fills with manky stagnant water?

The first one of these I watched was spectacular and I've been chasing that high ever since. I quite liked the swimming pool though.

jay55 · 11/02/2022 20:08

One heck of a wall to deal with. £12k not too extreme a budget too which is nice.

Kizty · 11/02/2022 20:27

Liking these designs. They seem to be doing a lot for £12k this time in comparison to the last programme.

jay55 · 11/02/2022 20:34

I didn't think either design would fit the budget in reality. Imagine they'd have to go for less mature plants that would grow.
The labour costs for getting rid of the existing patio and lawn will cost a fair bit.

ExtremelyDelighted · 11/02/2022 20:41

Good choice, I thought the other design was hideous.

Kizty · 11/02/2022 20:41

Yes they look like. Very expensive designs

Kizty · 11/02/2022 20:43

Looks quite high maintenance in terms of weeds management ?

Imtoooldforallthis · 11/02/2022 20:51

Anyone else think that balcony is so impractical?

jay55 · 11/02/2022 21:24

All I could think on the balcony was the chairs would be so uncomfortable for two larger ladies.
I know I'd come away with a dented bum and feel very sore.

MichaelAndEagle · 12/02/2022 09:03

They really need to change the balcony doors to open inwards or to a sliding door.
But they did make it look so nice. Hes good that guy with the dreadlocks.

Indeed, the balcony doors pretty much made the balcony unusable.

Janedownourlane · 12/02/2022 19:48

I loved the finished garden and it looked such a lovely space to relax in. It was definitely the best decision to embrace the wall. I loved it, and I thought it became a fab feature, and will look fantastic when little ferns start to grow in it.
I'm not sure how they did it on budget though, just the labour would have taken most of it!

tanstaafl · 12/02/2022 21:33

Slightly underwhelmed by first two episodes.
Covid restrictions affected filming or participants maybe?

The gabion garden must have cost more than £13k. The labour laying the clay bricks and 3 ferns , which Designer Tom had said could cost a couple of grand each. Shock would have been a chunk of budget.

The balcony ‘garden’ - the owner just wanted a fresh look, what’s wrong in saying that? All the fill about space, tight squeeze - it was exactly the same after, but with the new look.

LovelyYellowLabrador · 13/02/2022 00:29

Just watched the seconds one
I quite that
I think they boys chose the best option
And it turned out well

Also the designer that did the balcony did well again this week but I’d also change the doors to sliders and get comfy chairs
Also I was expecting it to have bigger draping flowers as per the design ! However the budget was tighter than a nats arse

JamMakingWannaBe · 13/02/2022 20:20

It wasn't made clear where the actual boundary of their garden was. Was the gabion part of their garden that they could plant up?
We have an estate with a similar wall here and a couple of families have put in a slide for the kids!

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 14/02/2022 22:11

Yes I wasn't sure about being allowed to plant up the gabion wall. Presumably they checked they had permission?!

I couldn't see any ferns or other perennial plants in the finished wall, only dark green ivy (not variegated) which will spread to the fences and neighbours' wall and gardens very quickly. I do actually like ivy and the habitat it provides however it's an absolute nightmare to control. In that situation I can imagine it quickly getting out of control and the two guys being liable to contain it.

I suppose bird droppings and seeds in the wind might've eventually introduced vegetation to the gabion wall.

I also wondered about the aspect of the wall and how dry and exposed it got. Being Liverpool it probably gets a decent amount of rain.

Namechangeforthis88 · 15/02/2022 15:48

I thought there was other stuff they could have put on the wall that would have been more attractive and less invasive. I also suspect the wall would end up with vegetation on it over the years anyway.

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 15/02/2022 15:55

I thought that the finished garden had hardly any planting on the wall at all! One tiny ivy plant! Also, I would have gone for something brighter to ensure that it looked like part of the garden and not just weeds.

Kizty · 18/02/2022 22:00

Thoughts on this week? The end result isn’t quite as good as the vr but I suppose the plants need to mature. I think it is better than some weeks. And I do think they chose the best design

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 18/02/2022 22:15

I missed the start including the first design (Helen's?). I adored the design she did in the final episode of series 1 (at least I think it was hers!)

What was the overall budget for tonight's?

I thought the space probably worked well for them and the narrow planting beds ought to be reasonably easy to maintain. The plants will expand to fill the space. I'd probably have included a little more evergreen planting as it will look grey out there for about 6 months of the year.

I liked the idea of rotating the shed/gym - I wonder how much that would've taken out of the budget if they'd properly factored it in!

Kizty · 18/02/2022 22:16

It was 20-22k budget. I think they spent 26 in the end

Kizty · 18/02/2022 22:17

I also liked Helen’s previous designs a lot

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 18/02/2022 23:57

Thanks! I'll have to try and catch the start on iPlayer.

I also missed the unveiling of the NHS (?) garden. Was it any good? It looked very bright in the sketches!

GarethSouthgatesWaistcoat · 18/02/2022 23:59

Am I alone in finding the presenter woman sooo annoying?!

BunnyRuddington · 19/02/2022 00:04

I missed it as well Confused
