But the mother did say that the ‘surprise’ baby was early.

I know, but not that early! Dean looked really small when he was being babysat at Nonnatus House.

SirChenjins · 15/02/2022 21:50

The consultant said she was going into her third trimester, so five or six months? If Dean was 6/7 months that might just work out. Just!

Yeah I couldn't work that out, she must have gotten pregnant immediately after having Dean?

I thought the young girl actress was really good.

@Whatdayisitnow my daughter was born in '87 and was weaned from 12 weeks as per HV instructions. That was the norm then. Think it was still the same when my son was born in '90. Baby rice for starters.
Amazing it's 6 months now for weaning!

Yes, and even from 6-7 months now food is for learning and play, with milk still as the main nutrition until 12 months, as I understand.

MangyInseam · 16/02/2022 01:11

I sometimes wonder about the weaning thing. I weaned my kids at just before the recommended time when they were babies, which was about 6 months. I thought that the reasoning for making it later made sense, but there seem to be a lot more children with allergies and sensitivities now. I can't help but wonder if maybe pushing it back so far was a mistake.

I was thinking of the actual ambulance itself I thought there was something like this which I remember vaguely
also I remember my mum (nurse) saying that "the ambulance people" are very good at very fast births tho I'm not sure what point in the 80s she said that https://www.google.com/search?q=80s+ambulance+nottingham&tbm=isch&ved=2ahUKEwiOtPqd7IP2AhWdwQIHHb8sCYYQ2-cCegQIABAC&oq=80s+ambulance+nottingham&gslcp=ChJtb2JpbGUtZ3dzLXdpei1pbWcQAzoCCCk6BAgeEAo6BAghEAo6BQgAEIAEOggIABCABBCxAzoECAAQQzoHCAAQsQMQQzoGCAAQCBAeOgQIABAYOgQIABAeUJsTWLeZAWC2nQFoA3AAeAGAAW6IAeQekgEENDcuNZgBAKABAbABAcABAQ&sclient=mobile-gws-wiz-img&ei=OLsMYo64DZ2Di-gPv9mksAg&bih=521&biw=320&client=safari&prmd=nivx&hl=en#imgrc=5FytoKK_8w8skyM

@Rockbird

Tim went to uni in the last episode of the last series. So if he was nearly 19 then he could just about squeeze into 20 now I guess.
I just don't believe he was supposed to be 11 or 12 when he first came in to series 2. Which was '58 or '59, it's now 1967.

I know the actor is actually 20 though.

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 16/02/2022 10:05

I'm sure a thing was made about Timmy going to grammar school (can't remember which series though) so he must have been 10/11 by then?

LavenderAskew · 16/02/2022 10:27

Timothy was eleven, i think, when recovered from polio and his legs miraculously stopped being affected. (If only St Patrick of Poplar had treated my relative's polio, they'd have had perfect functioning legs too!)

I checked wiki and it was Christmas 2013 special that Timothy got polio

Rockbird · 16/02/2022 10:34

Tim was 11 when he was recovering from polio. Shelagh is fussing round him and Patrick says that Tim's an 11 year old boy and needs to spread his wings.

Rockbird · 16/02/2022 10:35

To be fair, Patrick didn't treat Timothy for polio, he was in hospital!

MangyInseam · 16/02/2022 11:42

I used to work with a lady who had had polio that affected her leg. You couldn't tell as an adult, not in terms of normal day to day things anyway.

DePfeffoff · 16/02/2022 12:03

@GinaJaffacake

I think there could be a death in the Turner family but not necessarily the good Dr. There must be a reason Timothy came home and the actor has said these two episodes were the most emotionally and physically draining he’s ever done but that he’s incredibly proud of them. Not sure lying on the sofa with GF would elicit that sort of reaction. But it could also be Fred with the fireworks. I definitely think there’ll be a fatality on the ground.
I'm confidently expecting Timothy to leap off his sick bed and save several lives, following in his saintly father's footsteps.
SheldonesqueTheBstard · 16/02/2022 12:34

Nah.

Timmy gonna perish.

After selflessly peeling off his own skin for the brew lady.

blobby10 · 16/02/2022 13:22

Maybe Tim will rush to help then collapse when it's all over from one of the many side effects of Glandular Fever that he and his dad listed when Tim was being berated for not resting! I had GF when I was 19 and was too ill to get out of bed for 2 weeks never mind trying to read a book! Took me at least 2 months to regain enough concentration for that.

Woahthehorsey · 16/02/2022 14:35

Indeed, why else would they make a big deal of him leaving it at home...
TrashyPanda · 16/02/2022 14:58

@Romeiswheretheheartis

How old was baby Dean meant to be, and how far pregnant was the girl? Dean didnt even look 6 months, he was a babe in arms - it didn't seem to add up Confused
We thought that too. He looked about 5 months. And one minute the mum was wearing a slim fitting shift dress with mo bump; the next minute she had an obvious bump!

Something was wrong.

Twospaniels · 16/02/2022 15:00

@MrsLargeEmbodied

bit of a funny one, the sister who was caring for the 16 year old, wife of Dr Turner randomly said, you seem to be in a hurry, yes she said, she is moving out soon,

however she hadnt Seemed to be in a hurry,
that is my critique,
it is not like the acting is live and they couldntt do another take, must have been the crazy writing.

She didn’t mean she was in a hurry there and then (to film the scene or hurry away from Turnerdette) she was in a hurry to get the young girl the help or support she needed as she only had a week until she would be on her own.
TrashyPanda · 16/02/2022 15:04

@seperatedmum

I've never been on this thread before but I've noticed a few things in recent episodes that I recognize from my childhood which must've been very old then, I was born dec 80 but I recognized the kind of wallpaper the train driver was putting up. the kind of yellow and cut out pattern decor in the hospital I wasn't ill but my parents worked in hospitals the baby bath- type scales. those trains! not steam trains but slam door trains, compartments, proper toilets onboard. and being part Afro-carribean I saw older ladies dressed like that for church to the present day many times. those shelves and deer ornaments. had a nice little cry
I think you make an excellent point - people didn’t change their home decor (wallpaper, curtains, ornament etc) very often, as they had less disposable income and had grown up with rationing and “making do”. You didn’t get new clothes because you wanted a change if yours still had “a good bit of wear left in them”.

The set dressers seem to look at magazines from the period and furnish accordingly, with all the latest stuff, rather than mostly old fashioned, mismatched, with a few new things.
