can't wait...it doesn't get much tougher than this !

the wedding thing was hysterical. I was nearly in pieces. Especially as they showed her beforehand saying 'I'm going to get across how passionate I am. My statement's going to be really good' lol.

I think it's cruel they don't all get to cook. I'd rather they fought it out on their food than their personalities (though I like the food quiz. I'm by no means a great cook or even a particularly good one but even I can tell the difference between blardy lettuces and watercress etc.!).

Sunshinemummy · 18/01/2008 13:44

I agree re. the wedding thing - she completely blew it as the other guy was useless on ingredients. I think she meant 'it's the most important day of my life and I'm so passionate about food that I'm catering it myself, as well as being the bride and being caught up in it all'.

I did feel sorry for Andy. He'd have gone through in another heat as some of them haven't been as technically good. I like Sheridan though - she's interesting.

Anyone else been to Thomasina's restaurant? It's great.

MaryAnnSingleton · 18/01/2008 13:56

is it Mexican ?

OP posts:
foxinsocks · 18/01/2008 13:57

where is it?

Iklboo · 18/01/2008 13:59

Felt so sorry for Andy but Sheridan (can't get Hyacinth Bucket out of my head when I hear her name) is v good and passionate about cooking

Sunshinemummy · 18/01/2008 14:05

It is Mexican and is in Covent Garden. It's called Wahaca. It's a really nice space, very buzzy and they do tapas type portions of Mexican food which is great for sharing with mates. We took DS (22m) along and the staff were fab with him.

MaryAnnSingleton · 18/01/2008 14:12

mmm, would love to try it !

my MC favourites have been Thomasina and Digger Dean btw...I'm thinking Sheridan might be the same for me...

It's worth a visit if you're near by.

I agree Sheridan has been a stand out so far. Food looks interesting, unusual and tasty and she seems to genuinely want it. I've been rubbish this year at picking heat winners but I knew she'd go through.

MaryAnnSingleton · 23/01/2008 22:27

am pleased Michelle got through tonight - hooray - other girl was a bit up herself

merryberry · 24/01/2008 22:11

oh my word there were some numpties on this week!

would have preffered wide boy to have won in the end - i liked his cheek of 'which hand do you chop with'? 'threat to Jonny.

MaryAnnSingleton · 25/01/2008 09:39

mm, he was certainly very good, but perhaps a bit too cocky !

MaryAnnSingleton · 28/01/2008 22:30

hooray - they're taking a chance on Emily !

CantSleepWontSleep · 31/01/2008 21:27

Anyone else got this on series link on Sky+?

My bloody box keeps not recording it on a Thursday, and I only realised half way through tonight, so missed a whole episode.
Just catching up on the weekly final bit now though.

Piffle · 31/01/2008 21:29

had to agree with John, she is superstar material, really clever lass.

merryberry · 31/01/2008 21:42

really enjoyed that, spooky juliette lewis lookalikey isn't she, emily.

MaryAnnSingleton · 01/02/2008 10:01

Emily is ace - I think Gregg probably agrees too, but they have to do the bit of mock arguing over the contestants at the end !

OP posts:
merryberry · 01/02/2008 16:15

yes we werelaughing over what a no-brainer her win was yesterday, but how they still strung it out

FAQ · 01/02/2008 19:28

think emily is fabulous - even if she doesn't win I'm sure she's got a future ahead of her. Loved her Mud Pie idea

Kathyis6incheshigh · 05/02/2008 15:35

Is anyone else watching this and wishing there wasn't so much emphasis on them wanting to have careers as professional chefs and how tough cooking is etc etc?
I may be wrong but I'm sure many of the contestants in the old-style Masterchef were just talented amateurs with no desire to make a living out of cooking, instead of all this macho 'can they take the pace of a professional kitchen?' stuff.

Anyone agree with me?

lionheart · 05/02/2008 15:56

What do they win? Is it something to help them become professional if they want it?

Kathyis6incheshigh · 05/02/2008 16:00

Don't know Lionheart.
They keep going on about how if they win it could change their life and when someone gets knocked out they go on about how all their dreams are in tatters, but I don't see how it can really be necessary to win Masterchef to become a professional cook .

lionheart · 05/02/2008 16:03

No, neither do I, except I suppose they might launch themselves based on the publicity.

I wonder what past winners have done.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 05/02/2008 16:06

Yes I'm sure it would get you a place at catering college....

speak2deb · 05/02/2008 16:09

Does anyone else think that Gregg's almost sex-pest-like reation to the puddings is hilarious?

You know the way he says: 'Phwooaarr!' everytime he spoons some trifle or strawberry shortcake into his mouth.
