She said to the Police she often blacks out when she drinks, so why would she carry on doing it.

At least the plot is easy to follow in this drama !

As a teacher, I am a fan of this sort of programme - where they show teaching as if it is a normal job- where you just have time to have a fag by the back wall or rock up with only your handbag as the bell is going, all scruffy from the night before, and get a curry on the school credit card. Someone marks your Mocks for you and they are as much a surprise to you as they are to the kids- you suddenly have a weird interview with no prep and get the job. You have enough energy to go straight to the pub after work and during lessons you can do things from your own life like text and take phone calls.

In reality , teaching is more like a role I think - I feel like I get shot out of a cannon into school at 7.45am then I run really fast on a treadmill and get shot out back into my living room at 5pm to check my emails Smile

I know I have totally missed the actual point of the programme - all the peril and intrigue Smile but I am a sucker for this alternate reality

God it does surprise me every time when people comment how unrealistic these programmes are, like they expect them to be realistic
These programmes are made for entertainment it just be obvious going into them that it's not going to be realistic!
You watch it for the entertainment value

So there is absolutely no point in hiring researchers then to try and make a storyline in a drama as realistic as possible?

I don't agree with you. Don't we all get frustrated when we watch a drama and the job you do is portrayed completely wrong. They might as well not bother doing any medical research on medical dramas then. They could say pass the thingy me bob. It wouldn't matter to you as it's just entertainment?

purpleme12 · 01/02/2022 09:17

Well there's are lots of things that I overlook because it's not realistic yes
Like I say I don't particularly expect a lot of programmes to be exactly realistic... Because they're not, and I'm aware of that.I know it's not like that in real life. I know it's a tele programme
If it was a different type of programme that was meant to be more based on reality and fact then that would perhaps be different

Blondeshavemorefun · 01/02/2022 11:12

That’s good point about maybe she didn’t give her consent

But this can be easily solved /help her if she let police listen to message

But bet she won’t tonight

Just watched... very enjoyable if highly unrealistic!

Also that police officer remarking that kyle "looks about 20"... as a mid 30s woman...he looks like the teenage boy he is!!! Ffs!

Well, the actor actually is 20 Grin But I agree, I wouldn't have said he looked it.
Mydogisagentleman · 01/02/2022 13:33

Watched it and am undecided. I thought Kyle was excellent, SS not so much.
My DH taught at an independent school. One of the woman teachers was let go of when she was found to be having a ‘relationship’ with a 6th form boy.

I've started watching it, but don't know whether to carry on because I can see it ending up as all the pupils fault somehow. If this was a male teacher and a female pupil there would be no issue with the man being at fault.

NurseButtercup · 01/02/2022 15:06

Oh dear, they really want us to suspend belief with this one don't they? Have you seen the state of her, staggering into work steaming after a one night stand, then she gets promoted to Head of English after turning up to the interview dressed like a mess and doing the bare minimum. pfffftttt...
Oh well at least the female police sargent displayed & expressed appropriate levels of disgust towards her. I'm definitely not watching anymore of this I'm out. Enjoy.

May be pupils fault

Leaving a message like that on her phone

He wants to get her into trouble

Forgot this was on so will watch on catch up. Would be interested to hear the teachers on this thread views as this series goes on.
There is a young very pretty teacher at my sons primary school and Im shocked at the stuff she wears!

Drunkpanda · 01/02/2022 18:01

The message would confirm they had sexual contact though, I assume she is wanting to deny that! The fact that he consented won't get her off, as he's too young for legal consent. I would think it might make a difference to her legal conviction but she'd still lose her job. Will watch one more and see how it's progressing!

I wondered that too. Surely it takes an awful lot of booze to black out and not know what you are doing. Or is she an alcoholic? I shall continue to watch.

I'm in my late 40s and he looked about 12 to me Grin
Lanique · 01/02/2022 18:21

Hmm I have memory black outs really easily - it really doesn't take much with me 🤪. As a result I don't let myself drink much but they can creep up on me if I'm not paying attention. Most people don't realise I'm having one because I can function on autopilot quite well. I've chatted away for hours apparently while having them. Quite scary. I can completely see how the teacher did this, unrealistic as I found the rest of the programme!

purpleme12 · 01/02/2022 18:29

@blyn72 looks like an alcoholic to me
She's obviously got issues with her dad and her mum died too early so probably stems from all that

Justkeeppedaling · 01/02/2022 18:30

Unless he raped her!

I think she's an alcoholic. When she visited her Dad he made a sarcastic comment about her having a drink.

JemimaTab · 01/02/2022 19:06

I see Sheridan Smith is in yet another drama (on ITV) next week. There must be other actresses who could occasionally take these roles.

the80sweregreat · 01/02/2022 19:53

I hope blonds starts a thread for ' no return' with Sheridan Smith !!

It doesn't

@Theblacksheepandme : No self respecting medical person would ever say "pass the thingy me bob"........."pass the ooja ma flip", every time.Wink
