Rather lenient sentence!

@crochetmonkey74

As a teacher, I am a fan of this sort of programme - where they show teaching as if it is a normal job- where you just have time to have a fag by the back wall or rock up with only your handbag as the bell is going, all scruffy from the night before, and get a curry on the school credit card. Someone marks your Mocks for you and they are as much a surprise to you as they are to the kids- you suddenly have a weird interview with no prep and get the job. You have enough energy to go straight to the pub after work and during lessons you can do things from your own life like text and take phone calls.

In reality , teaching is more like a role I think - I feel like I get shot out of a cannon into school at 7.45am then I run really fast on a treadmill and get shot out back into my living room at 5pm to check my emails Smile

I know I have totally missed the actual point of the programme - all the peril and intrigue Smile but I am a sucker for this alternate reality

@crochetmonkey74 - your post made me laugh!

I watched the American series A Teacher and found that a harrowing but compulsive watch. The themes were irresistible attraction and the devastation caused by unwise but conscious actions. But, from posts on this thread, this British version seems to be quite different - more criminal/he said - she said.

I really don't like Sheridan Smith so might pass on it.

Theblacksheepandme · 01/02/2022 21:46

She actually thought she could go back teaching.

Yes!

I can't get past the veneers !
Yes her teeth are pretty white and perfect aren't they!

Just watched the first episode and have decided the ending says it all for me: Kyle's voicemail mainly and the way he treated her when coming out the gates.

I reckon he set her up to take advantage of her, knowing she had taken a shine to him and then has dropped her right in it on purpose 🤔

What I want fo know is 2 things:

  1. Which girl is Izzy (the other teacher's daughter)? Is she the one with the glasses that was staying behind with Jenna for extra revision?
  1. Did Jenna and Kyle just have a shag in the toilets or did they go back to her place (or somewhere else) and actually spend the night together?

I'm confused as at the beginning she wakes up in someone else's bed and we don't see who it is.

Then later on she is on a sofa somewhere. I don't know if that's her place or not.

Are these all other blokes she's supposed to have slept with or what? And why is she actually smoking fags in this day and age where everyone is vaping?

I can't get over the amount of issues she has and how much favouritism the Head is showing her because of her father. The latter whom also seems very distant and disconnected towards Jenna. Feel quite sorry for both the other female teacher and the male one who stood her up. Even though he still likes her after she was rude to him!

Also, who was Sean? The dad mentioned he had invited him and Jenna didn't seem too pleased about it. Did we even see him?

Have to agree with pp who said its supposed to be an independent school (just look at the rugby playing lol) and Kyle has a scholarship there (surely if he's the poor kid it should be a bursary). But it definitely looks more like a state secondary building wise to me 🧐

PrincessScarlett · 01/02/2022 21:59

Ooooooooooohhhh, so looks like she didn't do it then!

RainbowZebraWarrior · 01/02/2022 22:00

Drama is drama. I used to be a police officer, yet I still watched The Bill. I know a firefighter that wouldn't watch London's Burning 'cos, I'm a fireman and it doesn't work like that'

Sure, the soaps (I don't watch them) and medical dramas focus on the unusual rather than the reality. The detail is them getting the medical information right. Making it believable, while also dramatising the actual life issues for entertainment.

So most Teachers wouldn't necessarily relate to this, but it does (and has) happened many times.

Same as I used to be a Civil Servant and I didn't go to any of Boris's parties, but I can well imagine it all went on behind closed doors. As did the affairs etc.. possibly more dramatic than our own lived experiences of our supposed mundane jobs.

The Drama, it seems, is actually to be found in real life. More than most know.

Cocolapew · 01/02/2022 22:00

She stands in front of mirrors a lot too.

ClariceQuiff · 01/02/2022 22:01

I didn't find it very convincing that she rolled over and pleaded guilty.

ChildOfFriday · 01/02/2022 22:01

@Meredusoleil Izzy isn't the girl with the glasses. She's the one who was showing around the visitor at the beginning of the first episode and keeps making nasty comments about Kyle being poor.

Ginger1982 · 01/02/2022 22:02

I sat on the remote just as she was talking to the officer at the end. What was that about the instant messages?

lazymum99 · 01/02/2022 22:07

The account was under another name. But police officer seems to imply that means that SS set it up under another name.
Her lawyer seems a bit crap

the80sweregreat · 01/02/2022 22:08

Her phone was hacked maybe? Someone set up an account in her name ?
Dh thinks it's the girl Kyle was with.
She should have listened to her lawyer about going to trial

PrincessScarlett · 01/02/2022 22:16

I just don't believe she would entirely trust the word of a 17 year old boy when she can't remember a thing and also that nothing has been made of the fact she was so drunk she can't remember a thing. Not by the police or her solicitor or even her work colleagues that saw she was absolutely off her face.

Oh thank you for clarifying that for me...I did wonder if it could be her.

Who do we think was sending all those anonymous emails about Jenna being a skank etc? The jealous teacher/her daughter Izzy or someone else?

Also, what was going on with her phone? Did she lie to the police about losing it at school? In the classroom, she had one with a red colour cover on it. The one where she kept getting SM requests that she was ignoring.

Then when she got back to her car from the police station, she picked up a different phone from the passenger footwell. Did she hide it there deliberately or what, as she had just rung her father on it before the police arrived?

Who is 17? Kyle is supposed to be 15 I thought?

Yes the blackouts are quite concerning tbh. A real medical worry imho. But then why does she keep doing it to herself (the drinking I mean) when she knows that's what will happen...definitely no self-control, so must be an alcoholic.
eddiemairswife · 01/02/2022 22:22

I watched it tonight and didn't realise I had missed episode 1.

😆
Icanflyhigh · 01/02/2022 22:25

Enjoying it so far, can see how it's not especially close to a real life teacher with drinking and clubbing on a school night etc, but how many functioning alcoholic teachers are out there?

CraftyGin · 01/02/2022 22:28

I'm assuming she is innocent, otherwise there wouldn't be four episodes.
