Im going to go against the grain and say i quite enjoyed it. I agree it would have made far more sense if Kyle and his mum had turned out to be Brian's grandson and daughter. Also i would like to think that by the end, they had all gone to the police and sorted it out so ss was no longer on the sex offenders list but i do also agree that she had decided that teaching wasnt for her. However i do think Sheridan Smith is a good actress, she was great in The Big C, Four Lives, Cilla and that one about Shannon Matthews. Ultimately it was the story here that let her down.

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/02/2022 22:44

I enjoyed the plot

Just silly she didn’t get her name cleared

She could have from his mum, curtain lady and Izzy mum

Even if it said on screen, she was cleared from all charges and name off sex Offenders once the above 3 made their statements

I just don't understand why she went to meet Kyle at the end. How ridiculous.

Also as pp said how come she had to ask the young headteacher who Brian was in the photo and then he explained he had a relationship with the student. Obviously she knew this is this is why he's trading to get his own back.

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 08/02/2022 00:31

4 hours.

4 hours

Barunka that was bunkum.

TitsInAbsentia · 08/02/2022 15:06

You summarised it far more politely than my DH did Grin

I think we're suffering from Sheridan saturation right now, I mean why is she in absolutely e v e r y t h i n g ? ? I will go mental if she's in one of those masked singer costumes....

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 08/02/2022 15:27

I think SS was let down by this. I like her.

I like a drama that has an end that doesn’t need explaining more.

A lot of dramas lately try to be clever and leave ambiguous endings and/or more questions to answer. Or worse, just nothing that relates to the real world.

They may say ‘oh it is designed to make you think…’

I prefer not to have to turn my puddens inside out trying to make sense of pish.

It is lazy. With a capital bastardin.

4 hours. With the highlight of Pauline hiding in curtains.

And mourning her ‘dream man’. The one who was thinking of stoving a lass in with a hammer. Dreamy.

The curtains could have had a purpose. Wiping down the front of that lorry.

I didn’t like the flashing coquettey lash fluttering at the end either.
As if.

I’d have been wanting his knackers as maracas.

Best thing about this series has been this thread for the ending!

I finished it last night and just couldn't believe what I was watching!
As PP say - why did she have to go ask "Who is this teacher?" Oh yea I totally forgot about the teacher I reported for having a relationship with a student. Now, I must do my thinking face on for wondering who could possibly be setting me up for the exact same thing.

And it was like she totally forgot she even worked in that previous school until she went to see the ex (what was the point of him exactly and the relationship with her dad??)

Her character was so confusing. Was she a good teacher? Or a complete drunken wreck? Because the two rarely go hand in hand!

And her annoyance with the nice teacher (the guy from Emmerdale) when she discovered he had lifted her for the hope of a bit of a good time and she says "How could you think i could do that when apparently I just had it off in the toilets with the young lad" (paraphrasing!) She was so annoyed at him thinking she was "like that" - when she had just pleaded guilty to the offence! What was he supposed to think!

And what was she at going into the toilet with the young fella anyway? She was so inappropriate. She was definitely on course to step over the line with a pupil at some stage!
It was impossible to feel any sort of sympathy towards her at all.

And don't even start me on the romanticised meeting at the end! Not sure I would look so lovingly at the person who ruined my life and career for £200.
I felt the overall message was that it was the best thing that happened to her! She even managed to have less cakey makeup.

But the whole thing was worth it for the curtain. Iconic.

purpleme12 · 10/02/2022 00:19

I don't understand why we saw her ring her lawyer to say did we know someone set up that messaging thing on my phone but then we didn't hear anything else about it?

I did like watching it but the ending had no impact

And yes it was very wierd how Pauline was just sitting there at the end!

MrsMariaReynolds · 10/02/2022 21:07

So glad I saved the last episode to watch with a bit of wine.. 🍷🍷.

LoL! Utter shite. The "end'" of Brian had me in hysterics. And poor Pauline is probably still hiding behind that curtain.

Did anyone else think SS looked like she was sporting a milk moustache when Kyle came to visit her? Or was it the stunning sparkle of her veneers?

RoxieLoxy · 13/02/2022 17:11

Loved reading this thread. Thanks everyone. It was worth watching just to see Pauline behind some curtains. An absolute classic and bizarre moment Grin

Inkanta · 06/03/2022 12:16

I just don't understand why she went to meet Kyle at the end. How ridiculous

My take is that she was meant to be a flirtatious at the end there to remind the viewers that she was inappropriate. I don't think it was the acting as such. Was she being friendly or flirtatious? It left a seed of doubt. I like SS acting by the way - although she was breathy/sighing a lot in this.

I am late to this thread I know. Great funny comments on here!

Hohofortherobbers · 21/03/2022 21:00

This has totally disappeared off channel 5. Does anyone know where I can watch this?

I'd really like to know this too, just created a thread. Really annoyed that I'm finally getting round to watch it and then removed it! Angry

Sheridan smith plays her part well , but it's let down by a terrible script
