I know zilch about modern school life but it seemed unlikely she'd be allowed to piss about with her mobile phone in the classroom.

Theblacksheepandme · 31/01/2022 22:50

refraction
To be fair your question puzzled me.
Like asking a police woman/man if the behaviour of a bent copper in line of duty is normal?

Apologies that my question was such a puzzlement to people. Again a tad patronising. I think Mistressiggi got what I meant when she asked if I meant - would it be viewed as acceptable to act like that? Mistressiggi answered my question.

I find Sheridan Smith dramas a bit hit and miss but I thought this one was quite gripping tonight. Yes she's a car crash, yes it's totally unrealistic that she's a teacher but I wonder if this is going to go down a consent debate route. If we forget she's meant to be a teacher, the fact she was so drunk and can't remember, it could be argued that it is in fact HER that's been assaulted as she was too drunk to consent 🤷🏻‍♀️

Primary school might be different. I remember my daughter and her friends telling me that one of the teachers in her school had her mobile in class. She was online shopping and everything.

I thought same, surely its rape if she didnt consent? I thought it was good - an interesting topic, but then I like SS-she was great in Moorside and Four Lives.
lazymum99 · 31/01/2022 23:01

That’s quite interesting about the consent route. If she hands her phone to police and proves that she was too drunk to give consent. It changes the whole dynamics

I thought that myself, if she passed out and he had sex with her, surely he assaulted her.

Andacherryonthetop · 31/01/2022 23:09

The consent route would definitely make it quite interesting.

Spottybotty20 · 31/01/2022 23:11

What did the voicemail say? I couldn’t quite hear it with a sleeping baby in my arms.

Cocolapew · 31/01/2022 23:13

The voicemail was Kyle apologising for what what going to be happening to her then saying he enjoyed fucking her.

Wingedharpy · 31/01/2022 23:14

Well, to be fair, there have been real cases of female teachers being prosecuted for having sex with teenage boys, though, I'm sure most teachers wouldn't dream of such actions.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 31/01/2022 23:48

@secretfreckle

I don't even know where to start with this. What an absolute pile of tosh. I'm a teacher.
Yeah, utter nonsense . Strutting along the corridors in heels and a short skirt /sighing/ yesterday's clothes Hmm
purpleme12 · 01/02/2022 00:50

God it does surprise me every time when people comment how unrealistic these programmes are, like they expect them to be realistic
These programmes are made for entertainment it just be obvious going into them that it's not going to be realistic!
You watch it for the entertainment value

MrsLargeEmbodied · 01/02/2022 05:16

did kyle apologise?
on the phone message

it is channel 5 so might not be worth having high hopes imo
although good so far

MrsLargeEmbodied · 01/02/2022 05:17

except are we meant to believe that the character from My Mad Fat Diary is a fellow teacher and mother of a teenager?

sweetbellyhigh · 01/02/2022 05:40

I was disappointed with this 😞

coldfeetmama · 01/02/2022 06:44

I enjoyed it
I also do remember a young teacher at my sons school strutting about in a short skirt and very tight top
Apparently there was a lot of "banter" in her class
People can behave inappropriately in any profession and have been proven in law to do so occasionally
I am in healthcare and have seen similar and worse
I agree she looked rough but isn't that the point ? she's alcohol dependent, not getting enough sleep and not really looking after herself so she's not meant to look pristine
Look forward to next week

MrsLargeEmbodied · 01/02/2022 06:55

@coldfeetmama
i think it is on every night?

coldfeetmama · 01/02/2022 06:57

Oh is it , thank you for that , I'd have missed it completely 😊

Lanique · 01/02/2022 07:31

@TopsieGreenwood

I'm wondering if it was originally going to be a programme about a state school, but then they decided it would be easier to socially distance in a huge school, so they called it a private school with Kyle as a scholarship boy.
I don't understand the sense in this, unless I'm missing something. The school looked like a (very shiny and polished) state school to me, and the uniforms also looked state. I know that sounds like a massive generalisation but due to my line of work I've had experience of spending a lot of time in both sectors and so I do have some experience of the vibe in each type of school. Not saying either is better or worse just different. I heard them mention him being a scholarship and thought 'eh'?

Also, I think the poster who mentioned the girl with glasses has a point. I wonder if the girl has a crush on SS hence wants to stay behind and revise with her and is getting pissed off and jealous 🤷‍♀️

What I find most unrealistic about the whole thing is the fact that despite walking around like an utter train wreck, she's still promoted to Head of English. And the appointment seems to happen within 24 hours. Wtf Confused

And the staff room... wtf? It looks like a CBeebies studio.

ClariceQuiff · 01/02/2022 07:34

That seems to be because the head is best mates with her dad. I don't blame the other woman who wanted the role for being annoyed.

I also thought she looked too young but I googled her and she’s 33. Could easily have a 15 year old. Sheridans smiths character did say something along the lines of ‘you used to be wild back in the day’ or something to her so I wonder if that was implying she got pregnant young.

True, I did note that. But again, so unprofessional all round 😬
TopsieGreenwood · 01/02/2022 07:59

I don't have experience of private schools but that's not how private schools are normally portrayed on TV.. The SS and Kyle situation happens occasionally in any type of school, but the other staff are normally more how state school staff are portrayed on tv. (The ones at my children's comp seem more professional though)

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 01/02/2022 08:04

It was a state school surely?Confused
