Been looking forward to this. Great reviews

Sheridan smith plays teacher Jenna whose life is turned upside down when accused of a sexual encounter with a teen pupil Kyle

Drunk when the incident allegedly happened Jenna can’t remember what happened

4 parter, on every night this week

It's easy to have an unpredictable ending if nothing has to be realistic or logical, lol.

midsomermurderess · 04/02/2022 19:53

It was written by Barunka O'Shaughnessy, one of the writers of Motherland.

Meredusoleil · 04/02/2022 19:53

Haven't watched the last episode yet, but having read the comments on here, I'm not sure if I should actually bother lol 🤣

Blondeshavemorefun · 04/02/2022 19:59
@Blondeshavemorefun Brian went to prison even though he waited until she was 16 to have sex with her because he still groomed her when she was under age and that is an offence. Plus he was in a position of authority as her teacher.
The. Why didn’t Jenna get a tougher sentence considering she said she did have sex

Presumably because she pleaded guilty and fully acknowledged she'd done wrong; whereas 17 years down the line Brian was still whining that it was true love.

Stick to comedy
foxlover47 · 04/02/2022 20:17

@Meredusoleil you need to watch it purely to see Pauline behind the curtain 🤣🤣🤣

TheZeppo · 04/02/2022 20:18

@crochetmonkey74 I’m late to this as my whole life has been stolen by teaching.

Your post (treadmill, cannon) properly made me laugh: SO accurate 😂

Will do now 😂

blyn72 · 04/02/2022 20:37

I wasn't particularly impressed by the drama but managed to watch it to the end and was quite relieved that Jenna was able to prove her innocence, and move on. Also her dad, who I did not like much earlier, became a lot nicer. However I am glad it's over.

We're all pleased it's over !! 😂

because there was no proof, only cameras seeing them going into the toilets, no forensics

But she didn't prove her innocence. Well, she did to us and to Pauline but she's still a sex offender. Utter tripe.
blyn72 · 04/02/2022 21:19

I assumed she would go on to prove it or by the time she was talking to Kyle at the end, she had done so. She seemed so happy. Oh well, never mind, it's over now.

Meredusoleil · 04/02/2022 21:48

OK. Fully caught up to the end now.

My interpretation is that Arnold/Brian had done as much as he could and despite it all, he hadn't achieved what he had set out to do: break Jenna and ruin her life for good. That's why he killed himself. Also, so he wouldn't have to go back to prison again.

Pauline was so far in denial about Brian and so desperate to be loved that she was clinging on to the slightest glimmer of hope..rather than stick up for herself and her friend Jenna, whom she had probably known longer than Brian anyway.

Jenna looked happy at the end as she had finally got to the bottom of the truth and had forgiven Kyle for his part in the sorry mess, whilst also blaming Arnold for it all as the responsible adult.

The dad was nicer because he realised he could well lose his only child and didn't want to risk that after having lost his wife young too.

To be honest, none of the characters came out of it well. They all had different issues of their own to deal with and weren't doing a good job of dealing with them at all imho!

Meredusoleil · 04/02/2022 21:49

But yes, all the houses definitely did not look like England and especially not Bradford. Budapest/Hungary style very clearly.

Meredusoleil · 04/02/2022 21:52

Also, I think Jenna didn't bother taking any of the new evidence to the police in order to clear her name because 1. Arnold was dead so couldn't testify anyway. 2. She got a suspended sentence/community service so could easily rebuild her life without having had to serve time. 3. She used this as a wake up call to turn her life around and that maybe teaching wasn't the right career for her after all?

Andacherryonthetop · 04/02/2022 21:58

Wow that was shite. What a waste of 4 hours of my life 😂 it had so so much potential. So many characters that turned out to be completely random and pointless when they seemed significant at the start.

The stupidity of SS character annoyed me. As if you would happily stay on the register when you were innocent and Kyle and his mum are just happily not arsed either.

I thought it would end with Kyle phoning the police or something to admit to lying not merrily playing football. Why did she caress his hand?!

Why did king thistle have a hammer. Why was Pauline behind a curtain. He says all that and she’s just like oh he’s my soulmate. Pauline was completely weird the whole time. And then king thistle just steps back into a lorry with a serene smile. I mean wtf.

None of it made sense. Why was he doing a dry wall course with Jenna’s dad- how was that even relavant. So much of it was not relevant.

I was initially annoyed by how unrealistic it was of teaching but decided to carry on regardless but then it got ridiculous. Like this ridiculously young headteacher bizarrely meeting her in a gym (with pool) then sending her a load of info on an old staff member. Who she didn’t even recognise?!?! Despite reporting him for a significant crime that was apparently all over the media

So many questions. I could go on 😂 I don’t think I’ve ever seen anything so pointless and shite tho and it could have been so good

readwritelove · 04/02/2022 21:59

‘Oh well, never mind, it’s over now’ (@blyn72) is the quote of the thread and has really made me chuckle (sorry, been lurking and laughing throughout). Good old channel 5 trash!

BigFkingRegret223 · 04/02/2022 22:57

@Andacherryonthetop

LMAO exactly my thoughts.

Kept thinking it was going to peak at every episode never did, what an anti climax. I had invested to much time by third episode so felt obliged to continue. What a load of shite!

foxlover47 · 04/02/2022 23:16

The true character we will all
Remember from
This ... minus the curtain

THE TEACHER MON TO THUR CH5 9pm. TV PACE. NO SPOILERS
Cocolapew · 05/02/2022 00:51

The curtain was definitely the break out star.
I might not watch any more SS dramas but Im here for the curtain.

HappydaysArehere · 05/02/2022 02:09

I have not a clue why SS was smiling away at Kyle at the end. Was she in the clear? Had Kyle and his mother gone to,the police? Was she a saint who didn’t mind having her life ruined? I thought the first episode was ridiculous -as for that ridiculous short skirt being a suitable attire for a school teacher in a secondary school - but then I the story line became a bit of a mystery so followed to the end. Now more mystified than ever. Anyone got an idea of what the hell was the point of it.

coldfeetmama · 05/02/2022 05:34

But he's my soul mate !

While she sat behind a curtain listening to all that watching the hammer on the side
