people cried ... why? it wasn't sad!

newnamefornewyearbookwormmum · 01/01/2008 23:56

I read the Children who lived in a Barn. I was quite impressed by the haybox thing myself. It does sound a bit of a fire-risk though .

TsarChasm · 01/01/2008 23:58

I'm bemused by this...I didn't find it especially sad. It was so-so. Not what I was hoping for.

They did skip a fair chunk of the book but it was a reasonable representation for the time they had. I think Emma Watson should have come in a bit later with a younger girl playing Pauline for the first part of the stage school training - it was a bit incongrous seeing her doing ballet lessons when she was about 8 years older than the other girls on screen. Pauline was much younger when she started ballet - Posy was about 6 so Pauline was probably about 10. Not 15 rising 16!!

Just finished re-reading the Gemma series, I still like them even if they were critically panned! Obviously there are some bits nicked straight out of Ballet Shoes, like Lydia's ballet audition, but I wish Streatfeild had written a "what happened next" about the Robinsons too ...

pau · 06/01/2008 18:49

I missed this i was gutted does any one know if its being repeated please

edam · 06/01/2008 18:50

Ooh, is that Gemma and Sisters? I loved those books.

tribpot · 06/01/2008 19:19

edam - yes, the books were Gemma, Gemma and Sisters, Gemma Alone and Goodbye Gemma.

pau - I can put Ballet Shoes on a DVD for you if you like?
