ooooooh, only 20 mins in and am excited beyond belief. Harriet Walters is masterly, Emilia Fox a pleasant surprise as usuallly i find her a posho show-off.

HAPPY CHRISTMAS!

Oh I think Mr Smith was one of the first boarders - they got that scene with Petrova looking past him at the car perfectly.

All the scenes from the book were done very well

Saturn74 · 26/12/2007 22:19

Lots of changes from the original book.
But perfect for a Boxing Day treat.

Quattrocento · 26/12/2007 22:20

Yes Simpson I meant. Found copy of book in the garage - DD looked at it and said "well it was nice muummy but I don't think I need to read it". Isn't that tragic?

WendyWeber · 26/12/2007 22:21

Smith and/or Simpson

What was Posy sleeping on in that doorway? It looked like a nice warm blanket but she left it behind!

WendyWeber · 26/12/2007 22:22

And what was that string of lights on Pailine/Petrova's bedhead all about? Surely at that time most houses (esp skint ones) struggled to put a 20w bulb in each room!

Snaf · 26/12/2007 22:23

Not enough of Harriet Walter(?s), imo.

Snaf · 26/12/2007 22:25

Yes - I thought that re: the lights, ww - very strange. Not to mention the fact it looked as if it came from Claire's Accessories.

Scramble · 26/12/2007 22:26

HELLO sorry I know you are all reminiising but....
I am recording it, will my 8yrold dance mad DD like it or too old for her???

Snaf · 26/12/2007 22:27

Yes, she will, scramble (but make her read the book, too!)

edam · 26/12/2007 22:28

I think she'll like it, definitely worth a try! Ballet Shoes the book doesn't actually feature much ballet, though.

WendyWeber · 26/12/2007 22:32

I don't remember Garnie being so terribly ill either? (but that could just be my failing memory...)

Also, in the drawings in my book GUM looked like old man Steptoe

hoxtonchick · 26/12/2007 22:33

what was that bit about mr simpson's son dying??

MarsyChristmas · 26/12/2007 22:34

Is it repeated? I missed it! I was seeing a client and came home and forget to sky+ it. Sob!!!!!!!!!!!

Scramble · 26/12/2007 22:35

Oh not much ballet , never seen or read any of it before, please give me the basic run down .

expatinscotland · 26/12/2007 22:35

Wot, not a lot of ballet?

Snaf · 26/12/2007 22:35

Yes, Gum was virtually a hunchback with a flasher's mac and a very long scarf in mine.

Richard Thingummy's stomach always frightens me somewhat...

WendyWeber · 26/12/2007 22:36

Yep, the dead wife and son were made up too, weren't they.

It could have done with much more audition/theatre/dancing/Nana and less invented romance.

(But it was still fab!)

expatinscotland · 26/12/2007 22:37

so, who is dancing in this?

i realise emma watson's not a dancer.

but, erm, is there some ballet in this??

Scramble · 26/12/2007 22:37

Actually sounds quite wierd what with dead husbands and flasher macs

WendyWeber · 26/12/2007 22:38

Only Posy.

Quattrocento · 26/12/2007 22:38

Posy was just fabulous, weasn't she?

WendyWeber · 26/12/2007 22:39

(There is some dim soft-focus of Posy having her individual lessons with Madame F, plus her crashing in on Manoff's class (he was rather nice...)

TenLordsaLapin · 26/12/2007 22:40

Posy needed to be dropkicked into the orchestra pit, what a brat (yes I know, true to the book) - DH said "she's very convincing at that, isn't she"

MarsyChristmas · 26/12/2007 22:41

cooeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee repeats please! Thank you!

expatinscotland · 26/12/2007 22:41

Are they showing the whole of her dancing?

Because if they're just doing that editorial thingy of showing her head moving about and then feet and lower legs dancing, she's NOT dancing!

ARrgggggh! Shirley McLaine and Lesley Brown were really dancing in 'The Turning Point', not that saddo Anne Bancroft who couldn't dance!

[Sob!]

Why do you think Patrick Swayze got the role in 'Dirty Dancing'? Because he was a real dancer!
