@mooncheese Just because I really want to support your theory that Traffic Cone is JD - There was the potential clue about a 'gold-plated childhood' and, before his big break, JD had a role in a show called Golden Pennies. Oh yes!

Tillymintpolo · 16/01/2022 21:27

It’s Aled Jones !!!!!!

SpookyScarySkeletons · 16/01/2022 21:59

@Piggywaspushed

The masked ice dancer could be fun....
Ok we defo need to start a campaign for this!!!!
Winniewonka · 16/01/2022 22:16

Traffic Cone - two weeks ago, I said I thought it was maybe (half jokingly) Tom Jones because I could definitely hear a Welsh accent. Now I am convinced its Aled Jones.

DahliaMacNamara · 17/01/2022 01:04

@Piggywaspushed

What are the clues for Tom Chaplin??
It sounds like him and moves like him. Lots of those clues are so cryptic, I could get them to apply to me, never mind the performers. H+F on the clapperboard thing when they introduced Poodle was a big one missed by most guesses I've seen (Hopes and Fears, the band's first album). There are plenty of others that can be taken to refer to lyrics, album titles and biographical details. But I do enjoy seeing the clues being put together to come to an entirely different conclusion. They're equally convincing, but the performance only says Tom Chaplin to me. Could be a good impersonation, of course, but I can't see any of the current front-runners pulling that off.
JohnnyEyebrows · 17/01/2022 06:51

Bradley for traffic cone! Even looks like him 😅

Fetchthevet · 17/01/2022 07:05

Definitely Aled Jones. Wasn't looking as he was singing and recognised the voice.

blobby10 · 17/01/2022 09:59

Heard Traffic Cone on Zoe Ball this morning - definitely think it's Aled Jones from that clip!

WeAreTheHeroes · 17/01/2022 11:47

Yes, if you listen without seeing the performance it makes the voice easier to focus on. Might seem obvious, but it works.

APJ1 · 17/01/2022 13:07

OK, I'm glad you're all confirming Aled Jones! No Corden-shaped surprise, phew.

With all the Tom Chaplin talk, I just watched an interview clip of him as I realised I'd heard a lot of his singing over the years but never actually heard his speaking voice. I always imagined he'd be really softly spoken!

Pootle40 · 17/01/2022 13:46

@SilverRingahBells

I get that Keane are a properly big band, and he would be an interestingly unexpected casting, but personally I'd be disappointed if it was Chaplin because I couldn't pick him out of a lineup.
I have to say I thought he was quite cute back in the day so I would be able to pick him out ☺️ I noticed he has a young daughter and maybe he is doing it because she loves the show ?!

I'm not even paying attention to poodle's clues but I've seen Keane live and have all their stuff and when he did the sing off with bagpipes it was his voice.

Mykittensmittens · 17/01/2022 15:29

Hmm.

I was adamant it wasn’t Tom based on the clues but maybe it is.

I know him - of old - I had dealings with the band in their early days and have met him many (many) times.

At first I’d have said his legs are not that slim, but he has lost weight as he’s got older. I can’t match a lot of the clues up, but there are a couple. He’s certainly that tall. He did busk a few years ago for the big issue. However that stuff about Latin and maths and science is weird - he studied art!!

But he does have a very good sense of humour so I can see him finding doing this quite funny. And yes he has two kids - his eldest being probably the age to watch by now so yes that’s possibly a motivation. He’s a massive fan of Elton John (before he turned shit - his words!) so that’s another reason but the rocket thing I don’t know.

Basically the clues aren’t very good.

Yeah the clues are a bit shit. I knew Ne-Yo was badger from the beginning last year but the clues were random you really had to dig for them. I think also the clues we shouldn't take too literally.
Pootle40 · 17/01/2022 18:15

Poodle at his finest here and clearly a big fan of Queen which was in the clue package

Mykittensmittens · 17/01/2022 19:32

@Pootle40 yep. They have also covered and released ‘under pressure’ by Queen and ‘goodbye yellow brick road’ by Elton.

WeAreTheHeroes · 17/01/2022 19:39

Tom Chaplin is one if the best singers out there - that performs with Queen is fantastic. He is definitely Poodle!

IsaLating · 17/01/2022 20:41

Hmm I'm focusing on the Years and Years clue, think it could be Olly Alexander

(not a clue per se but he's one of those who's been on everything recently_)

Years and Years the Tv thing had Rory Kinnear and Russel Tovey, but neither of them are tall enough to be Poodle.

JaneJeffer · 17/01/2022 20:47

Queen had an album called Years I think.

SilverPeacock · 17/01/2022 20:49

Quick google of Tom C says his dad was headmaster of public school where he and bandmates went - could that be the mortarboard/science/cricket stuff?

Dogcollar - chaplain? Then the first clue package was him saying he was eager - keen?

SilverPeacock · 17/01/2022 20:52

Agree Traffic Cone sounds a lot like Aled Jones - but what is the stuff about him being a trouble maker and breaking rules? I don't really associate that with Aled!

mooncheese · 17/01/2022 22:01

I’m going to do my best Rita impression…

Traffic Cone

Smashed at Wimbledon - drunk at the tennis
Squared off against the fourth best in the world once - invited celebrity to make first move at world chess championship. One of the guys in that game ranked 4th.

It’s….Woody Harrelson 🤣🤣🤣

(This was lighthearted for the Aled guessers, I was trying to find things to connect him to the clues and this name came up 😁)

Sunbird24 · 17/01/2022 22:03

Is there a website or anything where the clues for each finger get consolidated? Just wondering if Traffic Cone has ever mentioned walking on air… Grin

mooncheese · 17/01/2022 22:09

Not that I know of. I record it on sky and write down the notes when I’m watching it the second time 😂

Sunbird24 · 17/01/2022 22:20

Ooh @mooncheese that’s a good idea! I don’t have any way of recording though. Did you catch the Roman numerals on the back of Rockhopper’s jacket? I think it was 14 one time and possibly something else another time?
