WellTidy 'willfully impolite person' - interesting way to describe someone-Grin but as the article seems to suggest, I think she likes being a bit sullen, a bit standoffish, and not the one chucking out meaningless platitudes.

Raahh · 29/01/2022 09:20

StartUp she is just refreshingly unstarry.

That ended up being a pretty quick set.

WellTidy · 29/01/2022 09:24

Yes, DC is unapologetically there for herself!

I love Ash too. What an ambassador for tennis and for Australia.

StartupRepair · 29/01/2022 09:27

Horrified gasp in our living room at the break.

Raahh · 29/01/2022 09:27

Ooh- the second set has taken a turn.

I suppose it's only right the final is decent match, and not a walkover (still want Ash to win).

(Having said that, I won't mind if Rafa wins in easy sets tomorrow - better for my blood pressure. Grin).

WellTidy · 29/01/2022 09:40

Glued.

MajesticWhine · 29/01/2022 09:42

Oh dear this is not going how I want.
Come on Ash

Raahh · 29/01/2022 09:54

Ooh- booing- could Ash be about to turn this back around?

StartupRepair · 29/01/2022 09:56

Nail-biter.

Raahh · 29/01/2022 10:13

Well done Ash!

At least they gave the crowd a bit of something to get involved in .

MajesticWhine · 29/01/2022 10:15

Not a classic was it. Neither player at their best. Delighted that Ash Barty won though.

Raahh · 29/01/2022 10:17

Magestic no, it's not the best I've seen Ash play so far - but I think the weight of expectation might have got to her a bit, hence the wobble. She will have really wanted the win at 'home'.

WellTidy · 29/01/2022 10:18

She did well to come through. Delighted for her.

StartupRepair · 29/01/2022 10:18

First Australian player to win the Australian Open in 44 years.

Raahh · 29/01/2022 10:28

They all say that the slam they are at is their 'favourite' Grin.

StartupRepair · 29/01/2022 10:41

Now fingers crossed for Rafa tomorrow.

Raahh · 29/01/2022 12:35

I've got the doubles on in the background. There is some irony in Kyrgios complaining about a bloke in the crowd making noises -when he has been encouraging it for a fortnight when it suits him.

(I've just posted the above on the Doctors thread- which will probably cause some confusion)

I had to go out when it was 5-4 in the second set, sounds like I missed a tense ending! Very pleased for Ash as I wanted her to win, but Danielle must be wondering what the hell happened to that second set. She must have thought it was in the bag at 5-1 up.

JaneJeffer · 29/01/2022 17:59
Interesting article about Danielle Collins here if anyone fancies a read:

racquetmag.com/2022/01/27/born-ready/
I like Collins but that article is very OTT about her, her looks and womens tennis!

JaneJeffer · 29/01/2022 18:02

Well done Ash. The Aussies must be delighted with her and the mens doubles (grr)

I was not very enthusiatic about the Kyrgios win, Jane- though I did find the bloke in the crowd with 'Special K' boxes on his hands, funny (once I twigged whyGrin).

JaneJeffer · 29/01/2022 18:14

Grin I didn't watch because I can't bring myself to watch Dick. He makes me feel so stressed.

Raahh · 29/01/2022 18:31

GrinI had it on, whilst I caught up with a pile of ironing I had been ignoring.

Anyway- I am looking forward to tomorrow. I wish I had a crystal ball!

Fizzywinegum · 29/01/2022 18:55

I only saw the women’s victory speeches and the trophy presentation - it looked as if Danielle had more to say than Ash Barty did! Really pleased for Barty

Saw a tiny bit of the special k match - Kyrgios makes me feel stressed as well Jane (still not recovered from his and Rafa’s last Wimbledon match!)

I did see the young lad being ejected - felt a bit sorry for him really. I missed the man with the special k boxes in his hands Grin

It did take me ages to work out why Medvedev called the umpire a small cat yesterday though - I thought it was a special Russian insult Grin

Can’t quite believe that Rafa is in the final tomorrow - eek!

Raahh · 29/01/2022 19:04

Fizzy I felt sorry for the bloke who was thrown out, because the whole crowd was noisy, and have been all fortnight.
