AC Grin

I really hope it ruins Djok's season. He's just lied and tried to pull the wool over people's eyes throughout. No-one can take anything he says seriously after this.

In theory, he shouldn't be able to play IW or Miami either, because you now need to be vaccinated to enter the US. And someone over there needs to grow a backbone and stick to whatever is decided instead of messing about. He's expected to play in Dubai though. Hmm

I really want Rafa to win- but Daniil is a very different player to the one he was beating in 2019- and only narrowly lost to, in 2020. He is a proper threat (and Rafa has done well, coming back after so long away).

JaneJeffer · 28/01/2022 19:53

Is there anything to be said for saying another mass? Grin

There are people on Twitter saying whoever wins there will be a huge asterisk- giving me the rage.
What rubbish. There must be loads of slams where either Roger or Rafa were not able to play. Through no fault of their own, not like in this situation, which is entirely Djoker's fault.
Absolutely rooting for Rafa but it's a big ask.

Fizzywinegum · 28/01/2022 20:46

Majestic - I agree - there have been so many times that Rafa has been injured so hasn’t played a Grand Slam - are there any asterisks against the winners of those tournaments?

Imagine how many GSs he could have won without those injuries?

JaneJeffer · 28/01/2022 20:48

Majestic I'm glad I'm not on Twitter because I wouldn't be able to contain myself!

Rafa couldn't defend his Wimbledon title in 2009 due to injury. Djok couldn't defend his AO title this year because he is a liar Angry

Vamos Rafa!

Grrrrrrr.

Do NOT get me started - because(because you know I am StattoGrin)

Fed/Djok fans really need to do their home work-

Rafa has won more of his 20 slams against Djok or Fed than the other 2. 11- in fact.

Djok has won 8 of his 20 slam finals against Rafa or Fed.

Fed - had has only won 4

Raahh · 28/01/2022 21:07

Rafa has missed so many slams due to injury- but there are no * for those.

But I am sure Thiem feels that there is one next his win at the US Open, 2020- because- becuase there were a lot of people who expected Djok to win.

And Mac has said earlier in the week that if Daniil got to number 1 ,he would still think of Djok as the real one, with all his wins last year.

Well, if that's the case, I don't accept Djok taking the number one from Rafa when he did. Idiot. Grin.

JaneJeffer · 28/01/2022 21:09

And Roger needs to transfer his Wimbledon 2009 win to Rafa because he won the year before and after so would obviously have won if he was there. God those people are idiots!

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 28/01/2022 21:11

But I bet Roger is rooting for Rafa to win this!

OP posts:
Raahh · 28/01/2022 21:13

Jane I know. There is no logic to it.

If you dared to tell a Fed fan that - ok then, 16 of his titles don't count (and I've seen enough Fed fas thinking Rafa doesn't 'deserve' the title this week - are they 5) there would be a riot.

JaneJeffer · 28/01/2022 21:15

If you're not in you can't win. It's as simple as that Grin

OP posts:
Raahh · 28/01/2022 21:16

I have no doubt at all that Roger would be delighted if Rafa won. I'm not even a fan. But he will be the first to congratulate him.
And it would be the same, the other way around, I'm sure.

Raahh · 29/01/2022 07:22

Looking forward to the Ash match this morning. I really wanted a lie in for a bit - but bit of medical drama with dd2 means I've been up for ages already. She's gone back to sleep thoughGrin.

I think it might be a bit of a one sided match, but I could be wrong.

ChessieFL · 29/01/2022 07:48

I have to go out just before 10 and had assumed the final would all be over by then but just got up to find it hasn’t even started yet! Looks like I’ll miss the end.

Raahh · 29/01/2022 07:59

I think it usually starts around 8.30ish here- sometimes a bit later if they spend too much time wafflingGrin

Raahh · 29/01/2022 08:38

I think it's safe to say, the crowd are on Ash's side Grin

WellTidy · 29/01/2022 08:54

DH has a fiver on Collins to win. What are the chances of that becoming the takeaway paid for tonight, do you think?

Raahh · 29/01/2022 09:01

Well Grinshe's not a bad player, and has started well- and Ash is a bit shaky at the moment. You never know!

I can't warm to Collins. I have absolutely no idea why.

StartupRepair · 29/01/2022 09:04

Watching here in Melbourne. Can't tell you what a big deal this is here and how adored Barty is. Collins is going to put up a big fight and could win it.

WellTidy · 29/01/2022 09:07

Interesting article about Danielle Collins here if anyone fancies a read:

It’s competitive, isn’t it! Really enjoying this so far.

Raahh · 29/01/2022 09:08

Russell Crowe!

Raahh · 29/01/2022 09:11

StartUp I love Ash- she is so down to earth, and seems to have the right attitude about the sport. I expect the fact the doubles match later is an all Aussie affair is going to be a massive deal too.

StartupRepair · 29/01/2022 09:14

She is so unpretentious, sees herself as a team player and is a proud Aboriginal woman.
