@Bluntness100

Sofia, as much as I agree wirh your position she was not found guilty of allowing his abuse and murder, she was cleared of that charge and only found guilty of neglect.
Exactly.

People seem to be making up their own series of events which go against what the court has been able to prove.

TurquoiseKiss · 05/01/2022 17:36

Echoing what a previous poster said, Kane knew well before the police told him that he was not Teddie's father. Didn't one of the neighbours state to police that they were aware Lucci was pregnant by someone else before Kane moved in with her? If the neighbour knew surely Kane himself knew!

I imagine when things were good between them, Kane considered Teddie his; and when things were bad he did not and used this against her and defenceless little Teddie. It was heartbreaking hearing his text message describe Teddie as "not my problem" and threaten to leave him home alone while she stopped at the park on the way back from collecting the other children from school.

Lucci is truly disgusting. To sit there and say to police "I don't know" how her baby sustained those injuries when it was clear as day that animal hurt him is beyond evil. I only hope her other children can lead normal lives without her in them.

mrkramps · 05/01/2022 17:37

@SofiaSoFar

Ahh social media, where everyone misconstrues everything. Myself and pp never defended the woman, we didn't recommend on her being a victim.

It's obvious her sentence is disgracefully lenient. And she's obviously a POS for allowing her children to be abused. At that point, I lose sympathy.

The point was about witness protection. The guy has nothing to lose (judging by the fact he ran across a motorway). He's a serious risk to anyone he crosses paths with.

But it's nice to be outraged isn't it, at things people didn't say.

Nidan2Sandan · 05/01/2022 18:21

I was shocked by her sentence, she was complicit in Teddie's murder by not telling the Police EVERYTHING!

Sadly, I deal with people like Lucci and Kane every day in my job and all they care about is themselves.

I hope she hasnt gotten her children back, the statement from her eldest just broke my heart.

Bluntness100 · 05/01/2022 18:34

The fact she was not with Kane when she fell pregnant, I think they alluded to her being a couple of months gone by the time she got with Kane, and then this little baby was dead at eleven weeks, means they were only together 10 months by the time this child died. This was not some long term abuse situation. It was actually a very short relationship. And she was defending him to the hilt at the expense of her kids.

We have all seen women do that before, but seldom in such short term relationships where they barely know the bloke.

uppidydoodah · 05/01/2022 18:48

I don't think that generally neighbours call the police. They don't want to feel like they're interfering.
We lived in a house for 2 years and heard screaming like Kane's on numerous occasions.
When we called the police 4 or 5 times the police asked if we had a problem with the neighbours, as in the 10 years the aggressive neighbour had lived there not a single person had reported screaming.
They accused us of lying.

CornishTiger · 05/01/2022 19:21

Im really struggling with this case.

I’m used to having to compartmentalise horrific stuff and on watching the programme I didn’t feel the outrage at a level felt on here. I think because I’m so used to seeing the dynamics at play. My professional brain was so busy looking at the details.

TinaTurning · 05/01/2022 19:27

The police officer who committed blackmail got a longer actual sentence than her..

CornishTiger · 05/01/2022 19:34

I’m only a quarter of a way through second episode. Up to bail hearing where he’s been arrested for DV based on neighbours witness statement.

Why wasn’t a safeguarding alert raised by police on previous visits to property?

Kane was known to social services due to previous involvement with ex and children. It should have triggered an assessment.

When they were bailed and moved out of the fathers property the police were concerned by risk of harm to her escalating. The CPS wouldn’t authorise the threshold for a charge based on the protection of others. Why didn’t the police go for a domestic violence protection order based on known DV. A judge could have awarded it for 28 days.

Where was the natural father in all this? The other children’s family. It seemed well known in the community of the toxic nature of Kane and Luccis relationship.

What happened to the previous social care referrals made by neighbours? I am waiting for that SCR to be done.

The comment from the investigating officer was very much one I will remember. The home didn’t look like one where neglect had taken place, their was a lot of them in a small property but they were fed , had clean clothes , house decent etc. It was the relationship and the anger that was the risk.

CornishTiger · 05/01/2022 19:35

Which case was that?
TinaTurning · 05/01/2022 19:36

Very much my experience of policing too unfortunately. Too busy trying to dismiss it as a neighbour dispute then to look at the Domestic abuse and neglect of children taking place.

Kane’s screaming didn’t shock me at all. I’ve witnessed similar so many times.

deeedeee · 05/01/2022 19:49

I had a neighbour who reminds me a lot of Kane . Also foetal alchohol syndrome and terribly abused and neglected as a child. Had the childish little boy thing but also the scary total psycho thing. Hair trigger switch between the two. Terrifying when drunk and enraged, broke down doors, screamed the street down.

RevolvingPivot · 05/01/2022 21:07

@TinaTurning

Not one of their tears were genuine.
Didn't see any tears
Mariposa123 · 05/01/2022 22:20

@RedHot22

Kane Mitchell was a strange character.

He switched from macho aggressive to being really quite effeminate I thought.

Did anyone else think this?

Yesssss I noticed this. In the interview where he was explaining his threatening texts he sounded (for want if a better word) almost camp. Maybe he was trying to make himself appear less like the stereotype of someone who is overly macho and aggressive so (in his mind) they’d believe that he wouldn’t actually follow through with physical violence? If that makes sense?
lollipoprainbow · 05/01/2022 22:27

@Mariposa123 yes camp, that's just what I thought too.

TitsInAbsentia · 05/01/2022 23:23

Utterly fucking shocking. She was complicit in everything he did by simply allowing him to continue being around her children. Why can't we start sterilising these people so they don't allow these patterns of behaviour to continue? I'm seriously hoping social services are planning to remove her next child at point of birth.

Also 18 years for him, that's pretty shit too. I shouldn't have watched this so close to bed, I'm all angry and upset. Bollocks.

user764329056 · 06/01/2022 01:29

Agree TitsInAbsentia, can’t sleep now, those poor remaining children having a ‘mother’ who inflicts that piece of shit man on them, no one to protect them and little Teddie. As perverse as it sounds, when a child dies it’s almost a relief that their suffering is over at last, his short time in that evil environment can’t even be imagined. I hope the 3 little children go into a loving home, they must be so affected by all they had to endure. There’s something very sick about the times we live in, both Kane and Lucci’s Facebook accounts are still active with pictures of them with Teddie, we live in very strange times, think morality and integrity are a thing of the past and we’re all poorer for it

user764329056 · 06/01/2022 01:30

As I said on other thread on this topic, that bastard will probably top himself in prison as most cowards do

Rhannion · 06/01/2022 01:55

I think she was incredibly stupid , an emotional vacuum, she was looking at a drawing of the brutal injuries on her own tiny dead baby... nothing , not a word , no grief or anger, just nothing. They are both vile, appalling & disgusting.
The sentences on both of them are far too low.

Mumdiva99 · 06/01/2022 08:00

This was one of the most distressing pieces of TV I have ever seen. The child's interview was so so sad. The matter of fact way she spoke was heart breaking. I am also suprised at the lenient sentence handed to the mother. That she allowed him near her children was disgusting.

ElephantOfRisk · 06/01/2022 08:28

I gathered that they'd been together longer and both had been cheating on their partners for a while before they were officially together, hence then believing that Teddie could be his. This was also fuel for the jealousy and suspicion every time they were out of each others sight.

The both deserved higher sentences, she was less of a victim than Star's mother.

I think that the authorities seem to be a bit blinded to the issue as there was no previous SS involvement and on the surface the existing children were well cared for in a clean home.

I don't know about the police blackmail case but try not to conflate the two. A police officer is in a position of trust and power so must be judged more harshly when they abuse that position.

Are the sentences in this case up for review?

MsTSwift · 06/01/2022 08:31

Obviously both very thick damaged people. Did he not have a job? Both Sitting around a tiny flat (no doubt paid for by tax payers) breeding more and more babies they can’t support financially emotionally or intellectually.. Depressing.

whatsthestory123 · 06/01/2022 08:49

as strange as it may sound i think the open facebook and picture of teddy is for attention, they dont think like normal people

I hope he tries and doesn't succeed, I hope he's left with irreversible damage and lives a long long life that way. That's possibly the most horrible thing I've ever thought but he fully deserves it.
