Is anyone going to be watching? I absolutely love it despite only ever having one go at throwing a pot at school, forgetting to take my foot off the pedal and watching as the clay shot off the wheel into the adjoining open-plan science area. Looking forward to the new host too as I felt the last one made it a bit like a vehicle for her stand-up comedy routine.

I’ve literally just finished watching this and we’ve taken it off series link . I’ve really enjoyed previous series but I can’t say I’m keen on any of the potters , Keith crying at everything and anything is just a bit tiresome and the constant attempts at innuendo just really put me off . That said my husband thought the stand in presenter was better than the usual one .

Piggywaspushed · 03/01/2022 18:48

Hello all. Just watched on catch up. I actually also cried at the fairies. It reminded me of some of the sets my mum bought me when I was little. Agree the fox story was grim but different times, I guess. The actual set was brilliant.

I thought AJ was a bit overlooked. I thought the dinosaurs were fab!

EewDavid · 03/01/2022 20:38

Floralnomad. I really like the temp presenter too. Siobhan is great but not on this.

Piggywaspushed. AJs dinosaurs were fab. And the space set too. With the full set of contestants I think there’s maybe not the time to do everyone’s work justice.

I find the innuendo in this and bake off so tedious. It’s so lazy and it isn’t needed.

Ellie Taylor is fab, the only funny thing on The Mash Report. She fits PT really well, but I don’t mind Siobhan at all.

Is a Keith Skrike the same as a Hollywood Handshake?

iklboo · 03/01/2022 22:35

I didn’t like Anna’s Fox/Duck story, so she’s at the bottom of my list. Being taken out with a stick to beat foxes to death didn’t really move me to like her Breakfast Set…..

But she explained it was a ruse by her parents to get the children out of the house as THEY had killed the duck to eat and wanted them out of the way while mum plucked & cooked it. There was no fox.

IntermittentParps · 04/01/2022 10:21

I thought AJ was a bit overlooked. I thought the dinosaurs were fab! I Agree, I saw a pic of them yesterday on SM and was reminded of how great they were.

Is a Keith Skrike the same as a Hollywood Handshake? It's not nearly as valuable as it happens all the time Grin God love Keith though.

onlyreadingneverposting8 · 04/01/2022 10:30

Watched my recording last night. Agree that AJ's dinos were overlooked. Was actually surprised they gave potter of the week to the one they did. I wasn't all that taken with it. Whereas the duck/fox theme one was brilliant (story grim but not real anyway). I thought the right one went home. I hope Zhara does better next week as she comes across as really lovely (they nearly all do tbf!).

Does Lucinda remind anyone else of a younger Brenda Blethyn?

What is a "Skrike"?
Annaghgloor · 04/01/2022 10:49

@iklboo

Does Lucinda remind anyone else of a younger Brenda Blethyn?
Yes! I said just that to DH while we were watching, and he agreed -- it's her lower face, and the shape of her mouth, and the way her mouth moves when she talks. Very striking resemblance, for me.
Saucery · 04/01/2022 11:14

“Skriking” is a term for crying. Northern. “Don’t come skriking to me if your pot falls off the wheel” sort of thing.

SoupDragon · 04/01/2022 13:37

Thanks. Being firmly ensconced within the confines of the M25, I've not heard that one before. I sort of knew it must mean crying given the context of Keith!

iklboo · 04/01/2022 13:52

@SoupDragon - sorry! I should have added the translation Grin.

'Stop skriking or I'll give you summat to skrike for'.

I well remember me muvver telling me that!

LaChatte · 05/01/2022 00:00

@Nathlash

Weepy Keith excelled himself and Rich joined in! I thought some of the work was gorgeous, though the mildly wacky quotient among the potters was higher than usual..? Lucinda deserved to make the gallery, though Rose’s long skirts are going to cause some costly trip on the stairs sometime…
I actually found the ratio of wackiness to be a fairly good representation of the ceramics community 😂
SoupDragon · 05/01/2022 11:36

Not only do we learn about pottery, we learn "Northern" slang 😂

Annaghgloor · 05/01/2022 11:46

Do you know, without having actually seen the Caryl Churchill play The Skryker, but being vaguely aware of its themes, I think I thought that a 'skryker'/skriker was some kind of malevolent folkloric figure?

I will now think of Weepy Keith entirely differently. Grin

iklboo · 05/01/2022 12:27

Here's one for you Soupy

Me an rkid we're in the ginnel, waggin it, but it was bobbins so we went to the croft cos there was a bonny. Rkid went flying, scrawped his knees & started skriking. I twatted him for being mard and it all kicked off proper.

Grin
Saucery · 05/01/2022 12:33

Stryker/Shriker are Black Dogs in folklore, along with Gytrash and Bargest. I wanted to have them as dog names but they don't lend themselves to bouncy Labradors Grin

SoupDragon · 05/01/2022 13:19

😂

mrwalkensir · 05/01/2022 13:44

Rose’s long skirts are going to cause some costly trip on the stairs sometime… She has reassured people online that they're carefully made to be a safe length for when she's walking up stairs Grin

TokyoSushi · 05/01/2022 16:55

I absolutely can't bear Keith's crying, but overall I loved it, so in for another season!

SerenTarot · 05/01/2022 19:53

Just delightful!

It's the perfect programme, despite the changes, or 'evolution' really as presenters and judges have come and gone. It's just as enjoyable today as it was when it started.

Keith's crying is not in the least contrived. He just has an automatic choke up mechanism, before he can even get the words out. I find it genuinely endearing and now it's become part of the show. I just think he's a very kind nice man, and wow what a potter. Did you see the awe on the faces of the contestants when he threw that perfect milk bottle so quickly?

Also I have to put a word in for the soundtrack. Whoever's idea it was to choose 60s and 70s tunes was inspired. I find myself listening out for what they are going to play next and it's nearly always a gem - The Who, Troggs, Small Faces, Spencer Davis etc. Great stuff!

iklboo · 05/01/2022 20:14

The soundtrack is brilliant!
