Is anyone going to be watching? I absolutely love it despite only ever having one go at throwing a pot at school, forgetting to take my foot off the pedal and watching as the clay shot off the wheel into the adjoining open-plan science area. Looking forward to the new host too as I felt the last one made it a bit like a vehicle for her stand-up comedy routine.

Keith said on a podcast that he genuinely can't help the crying. I think it's nice to see it TBH.

Saucery · 05/01/2022 21:09

He’s not so much responding to the things made as the effort he can see reflected on the face of the maker. The hope they have done a good job, sometimes the product of a new skill to them. It’s quite endearing, really.
Will’s emotion at a breakfast set that would connect with his daughter was lovely too.

IntermittentParps · 06/01/2022 11:25

He says that he knows how much of a person's self they put into their creative endeavour and he finds that emotional.
The first series of the Throwdown was filmed at a personally difficult and emotional time for him too, so I think the two might have kind of combined.
I think it's lovely that a big burly man is happy to show emotion on the TV.

skellingtonboot · 06/01/2022 11:41

Grrrr to C4 for not repeating it during the week - I'm sure it was always on twice when it was BBC.

It clashes with Call the Midwife.

I am not in the UK so don't have any of the catch up options Sad

iklboo · 06/01/2022 11:48

Keith is a unit of a man with huge hands so to create such delicate work is incredible. He seems such a lovely bloke and he's always encouraging, his criticism is creative.

On the challenge when he chucks the things in the bucket is always done with humour and everyone is in on the 'joke'. There's no cruelty. If I could make anything except a plasticine coil pot I'd apply just to meet him.

Annaghgloor · 06/01/2022 11:51

I'm sure I asked this before, but is that Rich on the opening credits, where you see the lower torso and the (large and very beautiful) hands of a man throwing a pot? I think I've always assumed it was, on no evidence!

SoupDragon · 06/01/2022 13:36

I think it is Rich, yes. I'm sure I've read it somewhere (other than on MN!)

SchadenfreudePersonified · 06/01/2022 14:52

@TokyoSushi

I absolutely can't bear Keith's crying, but overall I loved it, so in for another season!
Get's on my wick a bit, too.
northernstars · 06/01/2022 22:44

I love this and have watched all the series. Particularly loved that Christine grew up by the same bluebell wood that I did.

skellingtonboot · 07/01/2022 17:30

OH has just pointed out that it is repeated on More4 tonight - happy days Grin

JuergenSchwarzwald · 07/01/2022 20:58

I've just watched it on More4 - great start to the series.

Toddlerteaplease · 07/01/2022 21:42

Watching for the first time. Can't stand the crying over a pot though!

Joystir59 · 08/01/2022 06:42

Perhaps you don't understand what a miracle of skill, talent, practise, knowledge and hard work it takes to achieve 'just' a pot?
SoupDragon · 08/01/2022 09:01

On the podcast I mentioned, he said it's only pottery that makes him come over all emotional.

user1497207191 · 08/01/2022 16:12

@KiloWhat

I like it when the man (sorry I forget his name) cries over a pot or something. They are soooo talented.
That's the one thing I absolutely hate about the programme - if he did it occasionally, I could bear it, but he does it every round which makes it look very artificial and staged.
Roussette · 08/01/2022 17:00

I like old Keith but do find the tears a bit much to be honest.

Wolfcub · 09/01/2022 19:43

Evening all. Are we ready to start proceedings?

I am missing my watching partner.... I will catch up tomorrow when she returns from her japes and larks.

Roussette · 09/01/2022 19:55

Aww love the music ccuckoo clock.

Ijustreallywantacat · 09/01/2022 20:00

The nerd in me loves AJs design and clever idea with their wood stamp.

IsFuzzyBeagMise · 09/01/2022 20:03

Place marking for later on. I enjoyed last week's episode.

SoupDragon · 09/01/2022 20:07

Looking forward to seeing how all these turn out.

I've decided that Anna reminds me of Pam Ferris

HeadNorth · 09/01/2022 20:07

I am always impressed by their imaginative ideas. I’d be chuffed if I could come up with some of them & draw them, let alone make them out of clay.

At the moment I like the look of the rock and roll clock, the tent and the dragon. Will be interesting to see how they turn out.

Saucery · 09/01/2022 20:08

Crochet clock? Christine for the Win again!
