Is anyone going to be watching? I absolutely love it despite only ever having one go at throwing a pot at school, forgetting to take my foot off the pedal and watching as the clay shot off the wheel into the adjoining open-plan science area. Looking forward to the new host too as I felt the last one made it a bit like a vehicle for her stand-up comedy routine.

@Saucery

The time spent burnishing really showed on Christine’s, Lucinda’s and Jenny’s. You need that when there isn’t a top glaze sort of thing. Lucinda’s was so tactile! Like a Sheela na gig.

Tom had given some seaweed to someone (Anna?) which makes me think they prepare weeks in advance , so he wouldn’t have known he’d be out before the Self Portrait Week. I did warm to Tom, he was more than a sarcastic old raver underneath.

I thought it had the look of the Willendorf Venus.

I really liked Ellie, but am going to go against the grain here, and say how much I like Siobhan. I thought there was a lovely atmosphere in this episode, due in no small part to her dry humour and gentle encouragement.
Christine's was just stunning, so creative and moving. I also liked AJ's.

@iklboo

The atmosphere in the studio(?) seemed really great this week - very lively and supportive. I mean, other weeks have been, but this week felt ... extra, if that makes sense?
I agree, so positive, such humour.

I agree too.

Ellie was great and if she were the full time presenter she has shown she's a natural. But Siobhan is the current presenter and I think it's lovely that Ellie depped for her but now she's back.

Someone upthread suggested that the judges and the potters didn't like Siobhan. What nonsense.

It was a lovely episode, as they all are. This is one of those rare programmes where the skill - pottery - is the star. The changing line-up of judges and presenters does very little to detract from that.

Also, it has a banging soundtrack. Whoever came up with the idea of using 60s and 70s music was inspired.

Does anyone know if the gallery is open to the public? I would love to see it in real life.

SunnyKlara · 23/02/2022 20:31

Just catching up on this week's. I've never cried at pots before! And not just Christine's (although that most), but the kiln unveiling too. Being all women made it feel very intimate in a way that a think wouldn't have happened if a man was there. And Siobhan was a much better presenter for this week's solemnity

And it is so true what Keith said about Christine idea being with her since she was 32 and this challenge just gave her the opportunity to let it out.

Oh and, in opposition to seemingly most people on this thread, I love Anna. I really relate to her style.

(I find Jenny a bit boring. And her "I'm a mum but a person too" was definitely the weakest idea, in addition to her build issues)

FatLadySang · 27/02/2022 08:55

Lurker here. I really wanted to love Jenny’s because I identified with the idea of loss of self in motherhood (a pandemic that almost destroyed my livelihood just as I was coming off maternity leave hasn’t really helped). I just thought the end result was a bit woolly - perhaps because the shock of the change was so far away? I don’t think I would have made something so peaceful at the moment despite adoring my DC.

Evening all.

Jellykat · 27/02/2022 19:47

Evening all, looking forward to this tonight..

Hello everyone

Jellykat · 27/02/2022 19:49

The bog standard task Grin

LaChatte · 27/02/2022 19:50

This is a bit like asking 4 blokes to make moon cups!

Wolfcub · 27/02/2022 19:50

I like the pea/pee pod

FuzzyPuffling · 27/02/2022 19:51

Evening all.

I'm not sure I want to see urinals.

FuzzyPuffling · 27/02/2022 19:52

I'd make a big shark's head urinal with lots of sharp teeth.

Always been a bit squeamish about urinals. I never think these tasks are such a good test of creativity and beauty. No one would want to make one in real life.

Saucery · 27/02/2022 20:07

Evening. Brew
Hope Lucinda’s holds up, there’s no give in those straight sides.

Jellykat · 27/02/2022 20:12

Why does Siobhan always sound bored?

Piggywaspushed · 27/02/2022 20:21

Evening. I didn't get that the pea was a pea. It looked a bit dubious to me and then I decided it was a pear...

Jellykat · 27/02/2022 20:29

Woah a lot of damage there!

Wolfcub · 27/02/2022 20:30

I wish that fecking annoying woman would stop shouting at them

Wolfcub · 27/02/2022 20:31

I'm
Just getting the irony of helmet

FitYeDaeinYeMadRadge · 27/02/2022 20:41

Loving AJ’s helmet

Bouledeneige · 27/02/2022 20:42

Well done AJ
