Is anyone going to be watching? I absolutely love it despite only ever having one go at throwing a pot at school, forgetting to take my foot off the pedal and watching as the clay shot off the wheel into the adjoining open-plan science area. Looking forward to the new host too as I felt the last one made it a bit like a vehicle for her stand-up comedy routine.

Sorry but Anna's was a monstrosity as usual !

Oh what a shame!

Bouledeneige · 20/02/2022 20:56

I don't think Jenny should go. She's much better than Anna. How is she still here?

Bagadverts · 20/02/2022 20:57

Doesn’t seem right to send anyone home. They are so personal. Christine’s is only my favourite due to the story otherwise loved Lucinda’s and even Jenny.

Ijustreallywantacat · 20/02/2022 20:59

Such a shame but it's really splitting hairs at this point. Jenny had cracks. I wasn't a big fan of Anna's but I could see what she was going for.

Joystir59 · 20/02/2022 21:00

So many women will be able to relate to Christine's sculpture

Saucery · 20/02/2022 21:00

I don’t give a bugger about the crack in Jenny’s, Anna’s was a rough-edged pig’s ear of a thing Angry
Haven’t we seen this before, with Sue Tully? A good potter jettisoned so the balance of Superb (AJ) and Slapdash (Anna) is carried through to the semis and final.

Saucery · 20/02/2022 21:03

Sorry, ijustreallywantacat that wee humphy face looked like a direct response to you saying Jenny’s had cracks - it was a crosspost Grin

You’ve captured my feelings. Anna is a good potter but doesn’t seem quite as good.
Joystir59 · 20/02/2022 21:11

I agree that Jenny is the better potter, but tonight Jenny was not as brave as Anna, and her sculpture had cracks.

HeadNorth · 20/02/2022 21:14

Christine’s was so beautiful and moving - it deserved to be in the gallery on its own merits, I think any woman could relate to it - the scarred body looked beautiful and triumphant, just wonderful.

I was sorry to see Jenny go, but hers was simple and cracked. Anna’s strong, earthy sculpture did seem more powerful and representative of Anna - Jenny’s was a bit generic.

Saucery · 20/02/2022 21:15

I have no time for clear-eyed objectivity, goddammit, I am too busy being huffy that and my head is open so my brains fall out animal-bothering Anna has made it to the semi final Wink

SheldonesqueTheBstard · 20/02/2022 21:35

Christine. Sublime.

Not quite sure why Anna’s open head looked like a foof. Jenny should have stayed. I liked her sculpture more. And I’d have it in my house.

Lucinda’s too. Which she modelled on me.

AJ - lovely stuff.

But Christine lass - you ruddy nailed it. And I wept along with cryn keef.
Astoundingly beautiful. Powerful. And aye - one that needs to be displayed.

And I don’t mind Siobhan. It must have been hard coming back mid series.

I liked Ellie in this but Siobhan is a different lass and I don’t think they take comparing.

SerenTarot · 20/02/2022 21:39

I like Siobhan and I do think on this task Jenny unfortunately was the right one to go.

knittingaddict · 20/02/2022 21:54

What a wonderful episode. I love this program so much and don't want it to end.

LadyAddle · 20/02/2022 23:55

I think there was an interesting dynamic because there are no male potters left - I thought the potters were very brave and open in their interpretations of how they see themselves, and the atmosphere would have been quite different if say Nick or Tom had still been there, nice though they were.

buddylicious · 21/02/2022 00:15

I don't like to be harsh but I'm really not liking it so much now that Siobhan is back!

florentina1 · 21/02/2022 13:39

I agree about Siobhan . I think the judges and contestants feel the same.

I have just ordered Keith’s book ‘Boy in a China Shop’.

Saucery · 21/02/2022 14:16

It seemed a bit jarring to have Siobhan back at this stage. I know it’s just a job to both Ellie and her, and of course the dismissive “I’m back now, bye!” from Siobhan was done for comedy value, but beneath all the jokiness and pretending to annoy the potters there is a genuine sense of camaraderie that must be difficult to build up with only 3 weeks to go.
They might have Ellie back for the final. That would be nice.

That's an interesting comment - I think you're right.

DH said last night - Are there none of the lads left? I honestly hadn't noticed.

Agree that Ellie is better than Siobhan (I quite like S, but I think E is much better in the role), and I would also have liked to see Anna out rather than Jenny. I really liked Jenny.

Christine's self-sculpture was superb - and what a lovely person she is. I'd like to see her or AJ win - I think it will be AJ, she seems to have the edge with the judges.

I can't comment on the technicalities (which the judges seemed impressed with), but I didn't care for AJ's sculpture at all. It seemed to clunky compared to the others. Anna's was weird as Hell - as though someone had shaved Chthulu.

Saucery · 21/02/2022 14:25

The time spent burnishing really showed on Christine’s, Lucinda’s and Jenny’s. You need that when there isn’t a top glaze sort of thing. Lucinda’s was so tactile! Like a Sheela na gig.

Tom had given some seaweed to someone (Anna?) which makes me think they prepare weeks in advance , so he wouldn’t have known he’d be out before the Self Portrait Week. I did warm to Tom, he was more than a sarcastic old raver underneath.

iklboo · 21/02/2022 14:37

Christine's sculpture was beautiful. It should be in a gallery.

bibliomania · 21/02/2022 16:33

I like Anna but this made me laugh.

It did feel to me that everyone was bringing their authentic selves to the task, which was refreshing.

iklboo · 21/02/2022 18:04

The atmosphere in the studio(?) seemed really great this week - very lively and supportive. I mean, other weeks have been, but this week felt ... extra, if that makes sense?
