So many silly mistakes that showed how careless (literally) they were;

Saying Daniel had been found hanged, getting Ports age wrong, not doing forensic testing, not properly checking the cctv. The programme did a good job of showing how the detective in charge of the deaths had had no real direct involvement at all.

Even to the point of pronouncing Anthony's name correctly!

I mean I know Antony is the more usual pronunciation but as it's spelt Anthony and using the 'th' sound is a common alternative prounciation, just offer the family some respect and pronounce it right!

RoyalFamilyFan · 05/01/2022 13:55

Yes continually mispronouncing his name was awful. That was her dead son and he couldn't even be bothered to get that right.

Sportslady44 · 05/01/2022 14:24

@AnyFucker

I am not watching this. I can’t take any more “dramas” about young people in the prime of their lives being horribly killed while the authorities look the other way

It’s depressing and my mental health can’t tolerate any more of it.

exactly its not really entertainment is it!!!

Tv always have to turn murders into entertainment.

Watch a musical much better for your mind.

Cant understand when people say looks good or cant wait to watch it??

Sportslady44 · 05/01/2022 14:26

@CorneliusVetch

Oh this sounds good. I’ll be watching!
yes really good watching about men who were murdered!!!!
Blondeshavemorefun · 05/01/2022 14:50

To be fair I didn’t know it was based on a true life story when I did the post

It didn’t say it was on the bbc guide on sky

These men's deaths were ignored at the time. There story deserves to be told.

I finally saw episode three today
So so sad. Those poor people.
The ones who let them down the most were promoted. The Met obviously like to reward incompetence , made me feel sick reading that.
Those poor young men didn't stand a chance

Mydogisagentleman · 05/01/2022 16:48

It’s horrifying.
I remember it happening and being astounded by the incompetence of the police.

endofthelinefinally · 05/01/2022 17:30

I think it is really important that these things are brought to the attention of the public. They are real. This happened to people's children. It should be shouted from the roof tops. We should care and we should be writing to our MPs and protesting about the ongoing dreadful state of policing.

RoyalFamilyFan · 05/01/2022 17:56

I agree if this was a novel, no one would believe in it. In films and dramas, the police are never this incompetent. The level of incompetence was shocking.
But what got me was the way they talked to the families. You don't need the training to realise that you have to be sensitive.

endofthelinefinally · 05/01/2022 18:07

It is the fact that nothing changes that is so upsetting. We had a dreadful experience years ago where police incompetence allowed a violent criminal to get away with a vicious crime. Years later I saw him on TV after he had committed some truly unspeakable crimes. He blamed the police for not putting him in prison before. I just felt sick because my family member had risked their life to help the police to arrest him and they just didn't bother to gather evidence or safeguard witnesses.

pastypirate · 05/01/2022 18:20

Watched most of this today. Horrendous and I was very shocked by the bungling uncaring met. It was like oh they are young gay men they take risks and accidentally overdose all the time no big deal....! Homophobic in every sense. The scene where they just assume all gay men use ghb I expect was v close to the real event.

Those families went through hell.

Riverlee · 05/01/2022 18:37

Does anyone wonder else how Stephen Port logistically moved all the bodies? Did he move them when they were dead? Or were they moved semi-conscious and then killed them? Was the graveyard isolated, or did he want the bodies to be found? If busy, why didn’t anyone notice his suspicious behaviour?

RoyalFamilyFan · 05/01/2022 18:38

Yes I wondered that.

the80sweregreat · 05/01/2022 18:48

The burial ground in St Margaret's Abbey is located close to a main ring road around Barking and is always busy. There are a number of shops almost opposite as well
I'm surprised there wasn't more cctv around those areas.
I'm also surprised they didn't have any DNA evidence either?
It is amazing he could walk those poor men there without anyone noticing? I imagine that is what must have happened as it didn't seem as if he had a car ?
Truly terrifying :(
I feel for the families so much :(

RoyalFamilyFan · 05/01/2022 18:49

Just read that it took the police 2 years to return Anthony's personal belongings to his mother.

Unbelievable:( Yet the officers were promoted ?.. beggars belief.

That really made me so angry - so disrespectful. Kind of sums their attitude up altogether.

Thank you for filling in the details.
loobylou10 · 05/01/2022 20:10

Why couldn't they even get his name right - so disrespectful to say it wrong every time. I would have had them by the throat I think. Those poor young men

pastypirate · 05/01/2022 20:16

He had a yellow hatchback in the drama - Stephen port did

Riverlee · 05/01/2022 22:06

Well, that was emotion (and 10/10 for the acting)

Ellenanora7 · 05/01/2022 23:20

Hi haven't read the thread as I'm only on episode two, just realised my sky didn't record the third episode, I'm really disappointed, I've been going through the BBC schedule to see if it's repeated but can't find it, I can't get BBC iPlayer here so if anyone comes across a repeat would they mind posting when it's on, really appreciate it.

I don't always post on your threads Blondes because I record a few of everything before I watch but really enjoy the threads after I've watched.

Also thanks for posting all the great dramas that will be on ☺️
