So insensitive about the body parts :(
He was asking her about her dead son ffs.
It was unbelievable how they were treated and spoken to
Awful.

Iamtheweedonkey · 04/01/2022 22:13

I'm getting more and more angry at the police, absolutely disgusting behaviour. How they can get cause of death so wrong and be so blasé about it is terrible.

@Blondeshavemorefun so sorry about your DH. I believe we live in same town. I don't recall anything at the time, a lot in news in last few months from bf.

@Blondeshavemorefun no I don't think so. One of the men came from where I live, I think you were talking about same area. X

JacquelineCarlyle · 04/01/2022 22:46

@covetingthepreciousthings

I think had this been a 'drama' without the reality behind it, people would find it hard to believe that this could happen (as in Port not being caught straight away, let alone everything else).

It's heartbreaking Sad

I completely agree - had this not been true, you wouldn't believe it as the police really are totally incompetent. Shocking. Has there been an investigation into their failings?
GoodPrincessWenceslas · 04/01/2022 22:58

The policeman said that they could never give bad news like that over the phone
Why they did this to Sarah I don't know

They did try to, but she was away on holiday in Spain.

Ah. No I don’t live there but local to me

But they mentioned buying a house in my local town

Just seen the last 30mins

Why didn’t they say in court they didn’t think it was his handwriting

Why wasn’t his phone found

Just all the comments by the police seem so cold hearted

I’m wondering if sarah the mum found this programme true to life

3 deaths all local. All fat. Why didn’t they connect them :(

Ps the sister who was the scouse wife in Line of Duty has a terrible accent nowhere near Hull they could easily have found someone with a better accent. Her and Sheridan dont sound alike at all.

CeleriacOfTheNight · 04/01/2022 23:54

I watched last nights episode last night, but finished the other two this tonight so no spoilers from me- but does anyone else find it staggering that the same woman (dog walker) found the bodies of both Gabriel and Daniel in the churchyard?

That poor woman Sad bloody hell

I completely agree (my home town too so I k ow the accent well).

I vaguely knew of the case and that the police had fucked up quite badly. But what really struck me was the insensitivity of the officers. I'm very fortunate that I've never had any dealings with police in such horrific circumstances, but I imagined that FLOs would at the very least have some training on how to talk to grieving families empathically.

Agree completely that Cressida Dick and her utter incompetence needs to go.

CeleriacOfTheNight · 04/01/2022 23:58

I'd like to think that the 'real' DC Slaymaker is sitting at home cringing, but sadly I suspect not.

I remember reading that in the papers and was astounded.

I felt so sorry for Ricky, who had lived as his partner with Daniel, one of the men murdered, for four years. The police treated him as irrelevant because they said he was not next of kin. He bloody lived with him.

Spidey66 · 05/01/2022 00:30

How awful for the families, friends and partners, and to think most of the detective work was done by them and not the Met who were trained and paid to do so.Angry

And how said for the dog walker. Finding one dead body is traumatic enough....but 2? Sad

the80sweregreat · 05/01/2022 06:35

In Anthony's case, the police could have sent someone from Hull police station to her home or spoken to his dad ( as Sarah was away )
Then sent the FLO up to them once she got back.
They didn't do any of this.

AutumnOrange · 05/01/2022 07:06

Sarah Sak was just on GMB and she said she was pleased with how Sheridan Smith portrayed her and that she got the emotions (and swearing!) absolutely spot on. Ports neighbour was also on and said how he repeatedly contacted the police saying he felt the gay community was at risk but was ignored 🤬
What struck me was how recent this was! It isn’t police failings in the 80s or 90s - it was recently!
Don’t think it helped that I watched it straight after watching the Hillsborough documentary on iplayer - what the fuck is wrong with our police?
I wonder what incompetence is happening now that we won’t find out about for a few years.

Yes his dad was next of kin

But not the step mum as step. Even tho mum was dead and step mum had raised him

Yes poor dog Walker lady

And earlier post - gay not fat. Bloody iphone

I can state from experience that absolutely nothing has changed as a result of these cases and the subsequent enquiry. I dont think the Met, as an organisation, is capable of change.

According to the programme, they sent someone round both to Sarah's house and the father's. They didn't speak to Sarah because she was away on holiday.
RoyalFamilyFan · 05/01/2022 09:11

@Blondeshavemorefun I have always been told in hospital that who is next of kin is not set legally and my next of kin can be who I want it to be. And would they really have treated a woman who had lived with her male partner for four years? This wasn't a casual relationship. They should have involved the dad, step mum and Ricky.

the80sweregreat · 05/01/2022 09:17

It was awful the way they treated them though
The FLO should have gone up to Hull once Anthony's mum was back.
They were horrible to Ricky too
So dismissive.

I’m guessing if he hadn’t said anywhere who was next od Kin it goes to parents

Obv if married spouse is next of kin

But if it in relationships ?

RoyalFamilyFan · 05/01/2022 10:22

But there wasnt any dispute between his father and Ricky. Why not just have all three there? And Ricky was much more likely to know if that was Daniel's handwriting.

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/01/2022 12:54

I agree. Maybe his dad should have said
Look at the letter

Just shows how poorly the police acted
