Well this is boring.

Dont get me wrong, I do like CTM, its one of the very few things I will actually watch. But its the way that they portray Dr T as saviour of the whole goddamn universe that is so fucking irritating.

Of course doctors who were at the coal face as it were, in the roughest areas with the biggest social issues will have talked about it to their wives and families. Of course they will have railed against the appalling conditions that some families lived in, the lack of social care, the tenements, etc. But to suggest that Dr T is single handedly responsible for working out the link between Thalidomide and birth defects, between nuclear testing and birth defects, between asbestos and cancer is ridiculous. And I have to agree with PP's in that I am not convinced that it is a coincidence that the actor is married to the show writer.

PyongyangKipperbang · 17/01/2022 00:39

@Aroundtheworldin80moves

Covid will be identified and cured by Dr T the second, with some helpful cheerleaders.
"Oh darlings, isnt it wonderful that Uncle Tim has cured Covid?!"

Annoying kids plus Annoying squared grandkids... "YAAAAAYYYYY"

KenAdams · 17/01/2022 00:42

I've just come on to talk about that kiss! Why are they still filming distanced? We've been waiting for Trixie to get her happy ending for years, please don't let it be socially distanced!

PyongyangKipperbang · 17/01/2022 00:46

Is Helen George pg in this series? Just thought that there have been a few costume choices that dont suit the usual look that Trixie has.

Yes she is
PyongyangKipperbang · 17/01/2022 01:25

The green dress she was wearing for "that" kiss clinched it for me. The high waist band was not a Trixie look.

I am very envious that all it took to disguise her pregnancy were some empire lines and canny camera angles, when I had each of mine I got pregnant everywhere! Face, boobs, arms, legs, belly, I was just big everywhere despite not actually putting on that much weight!

Imayhaveerred · 17/01/2022 03:17

@PriamFarrl

Why did the balloons drift off? They weren’t helium.
Thankyou! Said exactly this to my uncaring pot plant.
NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 17/01/2022 06:48

That episode was depressing with two deaths :-(. Poor men.

Love the way that Trixie is 'Constance Spry' trained. She didn't go to a finishing school did she? Seems very much the type! Finally, a declaration of love too. Yay!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 17/01/2022 07:01

that episode was particularly bad imo

MrsLargeEmbodied · 17/01/2022 07:01

although i was glad for trixie

NewModelArmyMayhem18 · 17/01/2022 07:09

It was an episode without real flow. And at that point in time, I reckon they should have shown the new mum choose her career over the baby (and had her mum looking after it in her absence) rather than go for the 'mother at home' option.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 17/01/2022 07:10

In DH’s words “Minty breathes out helium does he?”
bendmeoverbackwards · 17/01/2022 07:11

Not my favourite episode. The 2 men dying was depressing and only one birth in the whole episode!

Re the balloons - non helium balloons will float up with a bit of wind.

Toddlerteaplease · 17/01/2022 08:51

I was waiting for someone to tell the singers manger to F off.

Imayhaveerred · 17/01/2022 08:54

It’s turned into Balamory, really. Everything is just on the surface and resolved within the same episode. Sister Hilda is jealous and upset that St Sheila is preferred over her to organise the event? Just show her the running order and she’ll get over it. (And I thought the nonsense about the Queen’s shoes as distraction was out of character for others, in times gone by Phyllis would have had some words of wisdom.) Meths drinkers have become a problem in the area thanks to slum clearance? After being shown the light by her husband Councillor Buckle will get it sorted.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 17/01/2022 08:56

Not sure I agree the deaths were depressing, they were sad but at the end of the day caring for dying patients isn't much different to caring for mums in labour. They were looked after, had someone with them that cared, they weren't distressed or in pain....

I've seen gangrenous feet, never had one come off in my hand though!!

blobby10 · 17/01/2022 09:58

Isn't the point of showing more caring for other people rather than just mothers part of the changing role of NH that we've seen over the past few series? I'm sure I remember Sister Julienne saying something about their role being more towards general community care and nursing rather than just midwifery.

Agree with everyone about The Kiss - it was SO rubbish! And why are Matthew's teeth so white? Is it just my TV?

TheSilveryTinsellyPussycat · 17/01/2022 10:22

I was annoyed about the helium balloons too.
I couldn't take my eyes off Matthew's teeth.
And no mention of meths having methanol in it as well as ethanol (ordinary alcohol). Methanol is a very nasty poison that can make people go blind.

Akire · 17/01/2022 10:27

This is CTM probable had balloons on string so could bring them back safely!

Suppose now Like then 100% got someone with you having a baby but if old frail and dying it’s down to luck or charity if no family.

MsTSwift · 17/01/2022 10:29

This has to be the most twee patronising program ever invented. I do watch it while exercising on my own to pass the time but the last episode was too boring even for that.

dayswithaY · 17/01/2022 10:56

I did notice that the meths drinker was Sir Dave of Cliftonville, the DJ from I'm Alan Partridge.

Strange that they chose to show the singer rejecting her career to stay home with her baby. She might regret that when the baby is 15 and screaming "I hate you" in her face.

viques · 17/01/2022 11:17

@Akire

Was it Dear Lord and father of mankind ?
Rather sweet that St Bernadette Turner chose that one, isn’t it the Blessed Dr Turner’s personal anthem, I am sure I have heard the grateful poor of Poplar hum it as he passes.
viques · 17/01/2022 11:20

Was I the only one who spent a ridiculous amount of mental energy wondering what they did with the foot. Did it go in the ambulance with him, did they dump it in the nearest municipal bin, bury it in the Nonnatus veg patch , or chuck it in the meths drinkers bonfire.

I did too! The nearest waste bin or accompany the patient for incineration Hmm made me feel sick last night and now!
Toddlerteaplease · 17/01/2022 11:55

Councillor Buckle ascots like she's an MP. I doubt she'd really have that much power!
