Well this is boring.

OP posts:
Plantsandpuddlesuits · 16/01/2022 22:27

@Toddlerteaplease

Nancy goes to take the man's boot off and his foot comes off as well.
😱
longtompot · 16/01/2022 22:29

Having been in a gp surgery waiting room with a chap with an ulcer I could smell that foot. I still couldn't believe that happened though. Poor Bernard Sad

What was the hymn they were playing at the end? It's one I've always loved but can't remember what it is called?

Akire · 16/01/2022 22:33

Was it Dear Lord and father of mankind ?

Positivelypatient · 16/01/2022 22:34

Thanks @Toddlerteaplease tbh I thought the whole thing was a bit rushed and more of an after thought, usually they make more of a fuss of that sort of thing dont they.

PriamFarrl · 16/01/2022 22:36

@Akire

Was it Dear Lord and father of mankind ?
It was to the same tune, Repton.
IsolaPribby · 16/01/2022 22:36

I thought the whole story with Bernard and Nancy was very reminiscent of a chapter in Shadows of the Workhouse, where Jenny befriends an old soldier with leg ulcers. He dies eventually after having his legs amputated.

blyn · 16/01/2022 22:37

Well I enjoyed tonight's episode very much. I am going to watch it again.

PriamFarrl · 16/01/2022 22:37

Why did the balloons drift off? They weren’t helium.

longtompot · 16/01/2022 22:40

@Akire

Was it Dear Lord and father of mankind ?
It is to that tune but the lyrics I remember are different
longtompot · 16/01/2022 22:40

@PriamFarrl

Why did the balloons drift off? They weren’t helium.
I was saying won't you think of the animals?
Akire · 16/01/2022 22:42

I think they wrote the song, Phyllis said she had the tune in a different key when she penned the words. The local peasants singing “they came To serve and blah blah” Grin shame we didn’t hear more than a line

PriamFarrl · 16/01/2022 22:43

It is to that tune but the lyrics I remember are different

They wrote new lyrics to the same tune.

The episode felt very bitty. I think they couldn’t make as much of a deal of the final celebration as they wanted to so had to pad everything out

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 16/01/2022 22:43

The celebration was definitely very meh and they didn't resolve the nun vs mrs T conflict either. I rather liked it when she referred to Mrs T as Sister Bernadette Ex Nun. She was right to be pissed off at being passed over, Mrs T had no business organising it other than to give her something to do other than simpering while Dr T mansplained again.

Talking of Dr T he said he was encouraged to talk after the war but was he? Wasn't there a bit a few series ago where his mental health went a bit funny precisely because he didn't talk about his experiences? He may have talked after that but I'm pretty sure talking and therapy was still not really a thing.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 16/01/2022 22:43

@Aroundtheworldin80moves

Anyone else think Sister Hilda was right to be pissed off and being passed over for St Shelagh?
Yes I'd of been pissed off as well, I'm not sure why the older nuns don't like sister Hilda?

I thought both deaths were fairly realistic (I'm a nurse) more so than in other programs.

The foot coming off though 🤢

The kiss was ridiculous, Trixie better get married now!!

OakleyStreetisnotinChelsea · 16/01/2022 22:47

@IsolaPribby yes I think they have used Nancy in quite a Jenny like was this episode. That was what worked well of course in the early series when they still had the books to go on as the reader/viewer was exposed to the harshness of people's lives alongside Jenny who was sheltered and naive. Nancy isn't as sheltered of course but it has that same feeling to it.

LaBelleSauvage123 · 16/01/2022 23:02

That kiss was the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever seen! DH and I were laughing out loud. It looked as if they’d used a dummy for Trixie’s head. Why aren’t they all in a bubble like other TV shows?

MinglingFlamingo · 16/01/2022 23:06

The kiss was ridiculous, Trixie better get married now

Can we wait till after covid for that wedding. Not sure I can take another socially distanced wedding like Cecil & Lucille's

EngimaticDisappearance · 16/01/2022 23:07

For those of us playing the drinking game, the YAY kids were in matching (homemade) dresses again. DRINK!

Also, how come an experienced midwife has to phone Dr Mansplainer because a newborn has a temperature? Surely this is well within her remit?

Not a particularly empowering message either - mum makes correct decision and gives up her career. Hmm

PyongyangKipperbang · 16/01/2022 23:09

If someone has gangrene so badly that their foot comes off, surely he wouldnt have been able to walk due to being in so much pain?

EBearhug · 16/01/2022 23:12

I think he'd gone past pain and it was just dead by that point.

Shmippy · 16/01/2022 23:22

My friend is a podiatrist and says that many gangrenous toes have come off in her hand. Not sure a whole foot has ever happened though...

Rachellow · 16/01/2022 23:53

I was so confused by why they started to play the happy song when the soldier husband was being arrested. Are we meant to be glad he’s gone now?

MyOtherProfile · 17/01/2022 00:07

The kiss was so funny.

And at the end when Mrs B and Dr T start talking about how there needs to be a home for the old drunk men - yet one more social problem solved by Dr T. I bet if we went back early enough we would find an episode where he invents the wheel!

PyongyangKipperbang · 17/01/2022 00:28

Fairly confident that Dr T will be responsible for curing Covid.....

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 17/01/2022 00:32

Covid will be identified and cured by Dr T the second, with some helpful cheerleaders.
