Was sooo excited when looking through Christmas Radio Times to see this! Loved this book as a child - so hope (when she can read) DD can learn to appreciate it

You aren't alone - I can't wait and have already set the Sky+. I just have to find my copy now so that I can read it again before watching it. Is that sad ?

flatmouse · 20/12/2007 11:53

What is sad is that i no longer have a copy (no idea what happened to it) - must get one!

i wish they'd show the original tv series, bet thats miles better than the remake

PestohohohoMonster · 20/12/2007 12:13

Ooooh I remember the original tv series of this. It was brilliant. Will have to dig out my copy of the book now too (and get reading fast!)

JackieNoel · 20/12/2007 12:16

I'm excited too - have been reading it with DD in preparation.

edam · 20/12/2007 12:17

I can't wait! My childhood copy is still around somewhere, complete with very creased cover where my dad sat on it.

MamaG · 20/12/2007 12:17

Oh Iknew it was coming but didn't realise it was boxing day.
Fabbo.

Do you know waht time?

dinny · 20/12/2007 12:17

oooh, what time, channel???

PeachyHasAFiggyPudInTheOven · 20/12/2007 12:19

I'm desperate to see it- but I think my aprents will choose The Old curiosity Shop on the otehr side

LOVED that book- still read it sometimes. Even the boys likely tor ead it, after all Gumph was a dinosaur type so some small boy kudos.

JackieNoel · 20/12/2007 12:23

BBC 1, 8.30 - strange time - they're obviously aiming it at the parents rather than the children, will have to record it for DD, who'll be in bed, or at least well on the way, by then.

PestohohohoMonster · 20/12/2007 12:24

I think it's on BBC1 at 8.30pm

motherinferior · 20/12/2007 12:34

I am quite convulsed with excitement.

Raahh · 20/12/2007 18:41

i'm just hoping i won't be disapppointed- and as it isn't a series, will they cut great chunks out? i was already slightly worried when i went to add it to Tivo, and it was described as being about TWO orphans- , hoping that is a mistake, and they haven't left one of them out mysteriously...

MerryAnnSinglemas · 20/12/2007 18:42

I nearly bought a copy of it in a second hand bookshop today ! - hope we can get to see it

hedgehog1979 · 20/12/2007 18:42

v excited about this, but don't have sky plus might get mum to record it, loved the book as a kid and am hoping to have a girl as i still have the book

chocolateteapot · 20/12/2007 18:47

Oh fantastic ! I have recently read this to DD who loved it.

JackieNoel · 20/12/2007 19:12

Raah - technically Posy isn't an orphan, as her mother is still alive, but 'has no time for babies' (it says in Gum's letter). Hope that's what they mean.

janeite · 20/12/2007 19:29

They are all 3 in it; saw a picture somewhere. Emma Watson is playing Pauline and looks just right imho, as does the girl playing Posy, albeit too old. But I wasn't convinced by the picture of the girl playing Petrova, who looked rather too healthy for my imagination, which has always pictured her as quite pinched and sallow looking. this is the ONLY thing I want to watch over the holiday, so it had better be good!

And I've still not got over the fact that dp wouldn't let me call one of our dds Posy!

Raahh · 20/12/2007 19:58

maybe that's what they meant, then, jackie...it's probably over 20 years since i read this- i loved it, and always thought Petrova was the most interesting character.

wheelybahhumbug · 20/12/2007 20:00

I can't wait either ! Will have to record it though I think as not likely to get to watch it.

Tamum · 20/12/2007 20:01

I am excited too. My childhood copy had the last page missing but I just used to re-read it anyway and try to remember the last page

Tamum · 20/12/2007 20:03

Emma Watson's twin half sisters are playing Pauline as a young child, incidentally.

Krimble · 20/12/2007 20:04

Not on BBC1 scotland at 8.30
