I’m three episodes in, and I’m like “meh”
Not very funny and depressing…
Hate all the “box ticking “ it’s overtaking the show
Charlottes daughter can’t just be a tom boy ( which in itself would be funny ) she has to be -whatever they were saying? Transgender?
3 min “comedy sketch” about being Bi….?
Charlotte and Stanford don’t like each other?
Big wanking ..( eew)
Steve just going “eh? What?”
Carrie totally ignoring Charlottes warning about Miranda’s drinking?
Miranda’s Prof saying she was a White Saviour when trying to point out to the guard he was being unreasonable?
Everyone mentioning their age every scene?
Why would Carrie be putting herself through the embarrassment of a vulgar podcast when she’s clearly retired writing and married to a millionaire?

I’m debating whether to just imagine them, all running home from the desert where my imagination left left after SATC2 …

Wokery is killing the show stone dead. Women their age would not embrace wokery so easily or laugh her heads off at the comedienne who can only say 'fuck' at varying volumes. The show is dire.

SpanishFly · 27/12/2021 23:22

Am I a total prude? Do couples ask their partner in a ditzy way to masturbate while they watch, when they were just lying in bed reading a book?

And the comedy club scene was fucking cringey. Wasn't funny yet people screaming with laughter. Camp gay men squealing with laughter outside. A stereotypical female bi comedian making jokes about how cliche bi/trans people are represented on TV. The irony totally lost on them.

I thought it was pretty ironic that they were being critical of the idea that someone might ask a guest to lecture because she was black while the whole show is basically doing that exact thing.

But I agree it's not conscious irony.

Aquafizzle · 28/12/2021 16:51

I found the Che character very intolerant and disrespectful.of Carrie's boundaries and comfort levels which is ironic as they presented themselves on the authority on inclusively and tolerance. That's what I can't stand.

TheRemotePart · 28/12/2021 17:04

@SpanishFly of course you’re not. Or you wouldn’t be watching the reboot! Although GOD KNOWS what they’d have had Kim Catrall doing , in order to keep up !?
I thight it was mad a sex and relationship writer would be asking her partner of 20 odd years ‘ does he masterbate’ for the first time , just there lol

Just watched episode 4 and really enjoyed it. Snorts of laughter - the best kind - more than once. I am loving how much more often Anthony appears and I liked the dinner party with Charlotte and the art. Maybe it’s hitting its stride…

Very much agree with this though!
LethargeMarg · 28/12/2021 20:11

I've been watching it all day (in isolation ) and first episode was a bit jarring plus I knew what was going to happen with big and it was all a bit OTT but by episode three I really liked it. Love the gorgeous scenery of New York and all the escapist wealth and glamour and the 'Carrie clangers' (see sentimental in the city podcast !! ) also thought there were some very funny (Stanford, Harry, Carrie joking about Twitter) and moving moments.
I think they all look great and I really warmed to che by episode four
Wish it wasn't so obvious- Miranda likes a drink and is a bit bored so will no doubt become an alcohol lesbian with che- Harry's colonoscopy , Rose's gender confusion etc and it's not as subtle with the plots as the original seasons
Looking forward to the next episode

Yeah - someone who agrees with me Grin
DSGR · 28/12/2021 22:12

I agree it’s hitting its stride by episode 4!

Doubleraspberry · 29/12/2021 13:20

I think for me the thing that irritates is that the writing from the start suggests that the characters have been sat in a cave since the last show aired and just appeared at the start of episode one. There’s no evidence that they’ve grown and evolved into 2021 - it’s like a time travel show. That’s mostly what I find so difficult to watch.

DifferentHair · 29/12/2021 13:24

@Doubleraspberry oh my gosh- exactly! Thank you for articulating that! That's exactly what has been bothering me.

These are educated women living in New York- they've hardly been under a rock, suddenly caught off guard by the changing world.

It sort of assumes nothing has happened to them and they have had no development in the intervening years, which isn't realistic.

southeastdweller · 29/12/2021 13:24

@AnnieSnap

Those saying Samantha wouldn’t have ghosted Carrie due to the work thing are just taking Carrie’s word for that! IRL wouldn’t you think there are two sides to every story?
But she's also not talking to Miranda and Charlotte, which makes this ghosting thing even less likely.
OGenkiDesuKa · 29/12/2021 13:27

So it’s all Miranda’s fault

And Just Like That..is anyone actually enjoy it?

Thank you!

It was when Miranda appeared to be dragging Steve into the 21st century by adding chia seeds to something that I properly cracked. Chia seeds are not cutting edge.

Newgirls · 29/12/2021 17:05

Chia seeds aren’t cutting edge but I bet most middled ages men reject them in favour of bacon. I thought that was probably accurate

FinallySomeNormality · 29/12/2021 17:15

I've watched 4 episodes. Found the first 2 bloody awful tbh. I loved SATC so was bitterly disappointed.

I'm all for educating people via storylines in TV shows ... but it's the fact it all feels so bloody forced and shoe horned in. The podcast scenes had me physically recoiling into the sofa, cushion over my face cringing. Just not necessary to be that fake and forced about gender and sexuality - they could easily have investigated those issues in a more subtle and thought provoking storyline.

Finding Miranda to be totally different to her usual character. I loved her before and always found her straight talking, no BS to be hilarious (remember her in labour 😂) ... but the Miranda in JLT is some bumbling, self conscious old lady. Maybe that's what they're going for ... but to me it feels wrong given how successful and confident she was for the entire SATC times.

Don't even get me started on Charlotte and her paralysed face.

Exactly this.

Benjispruce5 · 29/12/2021 18:50

I think it’s just the writers catching the viewers up with the changes in society. I hope the ‘woke’ referencing will stop

Obviously chia seeds are hard to get excited about but I think Steve the New Yorker would have heard of them.
AsYouWishButtercup · 30/12/2021 11:49

Just watching the start of the new episode

Good things: we finally see the lobby of Carrie’s apartment!

Bad things: Because she is SO VERY OLD, HOW IS SHE NOT DEAD she has a dodgy back and walks using an umbrella as a walking stick Hmm there is one funny bit though

I’ve been binging SATC, it’s just so excellent and timeless compared to AJLT, Miranda is like a totally different person.

Really like Seema though and I did laugh at ONE but of Che’s routine - when after saying ‘suck my dick’ she said ‘I actually don’t have a dick, if I did I’d have made this Netflix show 5 years ago’ Grin

AsYouWishButtercup · 30/12/2021 12:02

I’m also Hmm about the alcoholic storyline. My dad was a high functioning (well at first) alcoholic- it killed him in the end so I know the importance of raising awareness. But these women in SATC used to have cocktails with breakfast, and wine with lunch. It feels like now they’re ‘old’ the judgement about ‘too much’ of anything is there.

Further into the episode brings up the Rose gender issue and Charlotte asks Miranda if she ever wishes she wasn’t a girl and Miranda replies ‘every time I have a mammogram’. See there’s these brilliant gender critical moments amongst the woke nonsense and I couldn’t help but wonder that they’re taking the piss!

southeastdweller · 30/12/2021 12:11

I think they’re positioning Seema as the ‘new’ Samantha, and it’s not working.

AsYouWishButtercup · 30/12/2021 12:14

Yea defo Italy LTW + Seema = new Samantha

JanisMoplin · 30/12/2021 12:19

This trope that brown or black women are uncomfortable in a roomful of white women and need someone of their own race to hold their hands plus vice versa..I have to roll my eyes at that. How do you think we get anything done- work, play, whatever- if we are that pathetic?
