I’m three episodes in, and I’m like “meh”
Not very funny and depressing…
Hate all the “box ticking “ it’s overtaking the show
Charlottes daughter can’t just be a tom boy ( which in itself would be funny ) she has to be -whatever they were saying? Transgender?
3 min “comedy sketch” about being Bi….?
Charlotte and Stanford don’t like each other?
Big wanking ..( eew)
Steve just going “eh? What?”
Carrie totally ignoring Charlottes warning about Miranda’s drinking?
Miranda’s Prof saying she was a White Saviour when trying to point out to the guard he was being unreasonable?
Everyone mentioning their age every scene?
Why would Carrie be putting herself through the embarrassment of a vulgar podcast when she’s clearly retired writing and married to a millionaire?

I’m debating whether to just imagine them, all running home from the desert where my imagination left left after SATC2 …

Really enjoyed this week's episode. I feel like it's finding it's stride. The scene where they were having brunch felt like SATC, they had their own personalities back a bit. Same with the hospital scenes. Miranda's joke about the mammogram felt like something she would say.

I feel bad for Steve. Just remembering how he dropped Debbie for Miranda because she said she wanted him. Did she ever? They're kind of implying that she's been a lesbian this whole time? So unfair to poor Steve.

Loved Charlottes outfits this week.

Loved seeing the lobby of Carries building!!

Still missing Samantha though. Her confidence and complete lack of anxiety really helped balance the rest of them. They're all insecure & worrying about something or other and not having any fun.

Gemster19 · 30/12/2021 13:48

This week's episode feels a bit more familiar to SATC but was the main storyline not a bit ridiculous given that Carrie was walking the streets of NY for hours on end in huge platforms last week?!

ButYouGottaHaveASkillJeff · 30/12/2021 13:53

I'll be the one to go against the grain and say I'm hating this week's episode. It's awful.

ButYouGottaHaveASkillJeff · 30/12/2021 13:56

Miranda has overtaken Carrie as most irritating selfish character.

Benjispruce5 · 30/12/2021 13:57

Oh god I hated ep 5.

babysfirstchristmas · 30/12/2021 14:03

Absolutely love it, unpopular opinion, love all the new characters. Very excited to have this back in my life!

babysfirstchristmas · 30/12/2021 14:07

But annoyed with Miranda's basic portrayal, she was always the really smart and fairly woke one. Also some would say presented as queer herself. But also think she's just going through stuff right now which comes to ahead in ep5.

Loved the hip replacement stuff. Just real life shit that happens when you get older, and she's back in heals fairly quickly and has a sexy physio guy, bonus!

Miss Samantha but think the new characters are making up for it.

LoL but her treatment goal was to get back into heels I totally believe it. In my early 30's I refused to wear flat shoes or trainers unless I was doing exercise. I suspect if I didn't change career, I'd still be hanging onto my "never wear flat shoes" rule.

@JanisMoplin

This trope that brown or black women are uncomfortable in a roomful of white women and need someone of their own race to hold their hands plus vice versa..I have to roll my eyes at that. How do you think we get anything done- work, play, whatever- if we are that pathetic?
It's not pathetic, if you don't relate to this experience that's good for you.

I've definitely experienced this kind of anxiety in social and work spaces when I've been the only black face.

TangledUp789 · 30/12/2021 14:26

Miranda is now officially my most hated character. Firstly because Cynthia Nixon seems like an insufferable person and is responsible for most of the worst parts of AJLT. Secondly because it was really gross of her to have sex in the kitchen in full view of her friend who’s recovering from surgery (I don’t care about her self pitying bullshit, I would have kicked her out). And I feel bad for poor Steve, he deserves someone better than Miranda.

I liked how there were lots of scenes with the girls together this week (something that was sorely lacking last episode). I just miss the fun and escapism of SATC. Now it’s all LGBT issues, race, ageing, relationship breakdowns, alcoholism, illness and death. I do like all of Anthony’s scenes though - he looks and acts the same as always and brings back the SATC feel. As did Stanford Sad I liked seeing Carrie back to her old self in the last shot. I think the show will be a lot more fun once she’s back out dating again.

babysfirstchristmas · 30/12/2021 14:28

Wonder if Aidan will make a come back? Always wished she'd married him

NurseButtercup · 30/12/2021 15:21

If I was Carrie I don't think I'd be able to forgive Miranda after her meltdown/confession. I think Charlotte would have to stage an intervention to help build bridges & mend the friendship.

AsYouWishButtercup · 30/12/2021 15:42

A bit Shock about Miranda not being very sorry about having sex with another woman in Carrie’s kitchen. Did see a glimpse of the old Miranda though as she always had VERY loud sex Xmas Envy

AsYouWishButtercup · 30/12/2021 15:43

I don’t feel that sorry for Steve though, I never liked him much at all still reeling that she dumper sexy Dr Robert for him

And Steve did cheat on her in the first movie, because they weren’t having much sex. And now they haven’t had sex in 2 years and he’s acting like he’s 90 years old

magicstar1 · 30/12/2021 15:54

Just watching episode 5. As soon as Rock was mentioned my eyes rolled back so far in my head….sooo predictable

sociallydistained · 30/12/2021 15:58

I'm personally loving it and loving having something new to watch each week and wait for the next. Also watching new Dexter too on a Monday but I think this is my current fave out of the two.

I think that's why I'm hating it. It's the predictability. Everything is clearly signposted, you know what's coming up. There's no anticipation or surprise.

I knew Miranda was being geared up to be a awakened lesbian alcoholic from the get go, that Rose was going to be transgender, Charlotte getting all sorts of awks around getting more black people at her party, non binary and pronouns would feature somewhere including gender neutral toilets, them all acting 90 despite being in their 50's like it's something to apologise for.

It takes away from exploring their enduring friendships with each other, Carrie dealing with Big's death (she seems to be ok!), their careers, relationships as this overriding need to show how diverse the show is now is more important.

I'll still watch to the end just to wind myself up!

I’m with Harry!
Netaporter · 30/12/2021 17:32

I really enjoyed this week’s episode although having just watched Dopesick on Disney+ I was a bit Confused at the ‘amusement’ of the opioid scandal and now pleased Che was that Carrie was off her tits doing the podcast…dreadfully insensitive. Loved Charlotte’s outfits and SJ’s replies to the texts from Carrie. And the realistic portrayal of the reaction to the hot fella and Physio - and also Harry and Anthony’s reaction to the Rock situation. But the Miranda sex scenes! OMG I was cringing for her. Simply toe curling. The pee scenes into the peach shnapple bottle were properly old skool SATC tho. I did chuckle. It’s definitely getting better.

DillDanding · 30/12/2021 17:53

I enjoyed this week’s.

Apart from the sex scene at which I cringed myself inside out.

x2boys · 30/12/2021 18:12

I really didn't enjoy today's episode in sick of them pushing the whole transgender issue ,
I really don't think Miranda of old would have had sex in carrie,s kitchen whilst Carrie was there ,I think it might have been s bit to beyond the pale even for Samantha
I remember Matt Le Blanc saying one of the reasons why he didn't want a reboot of friends was because people didn't really want to see a fifty odd year old Joey ,going for prostrate tests etc and I felt it applied a bit to Carrie ,yeah I get she's 55 and she's getting older but I don't think an issue needs to be made out of it with hip operations etc

tribpot · 30/12/2021 18:12

Yeah - what happened to informed consent, is Carrie really meant to have consented to her drugged-up musings being broadcast in this, surely the worst podcast in the world? Or is Carrie a fair target as she's the 'cis white [married] lady'?

I see Miranda has apparently now accepted she has a problem with alcohol but let's just skate right over that to get to the important news at the end of the episode, that Carrie can walk in high heels again. Yayyyyy. At least that was consistent with the superficiality of the old series! I wonder if that's it now, Miranda will miraculously solve her drinking problem, yet still be able to be around Che despite Che being 'drug friendly' (to put it mildly).

I think it makes a lot of sense to diversify the cast, but why are the new characters so one-dimensional? Give them some screentime and something to do, other than swoop around being fabulous in statement necklaces. I personally want to be best friends with Seema if she can come in and solve both house decorating and medical problems in less than 24 hours.

I hope we are going to go back from the final scene of this episode to the intervening three months, to see if Miranda really understands the magnitude of how shit a friend she was (I seem to recall Carrie being too busy to get Miranda up off the bathmat and sending Aidan to do it for her, and getting a right bollocking for that). Surely one of the issues the main cast actually have experience of is alcoholism (Kristin Davies is a recovering alcoholic) but I can't see that getting much screentime either.

Nitgel · 30/12/2021 20:06

why is Carrie acting like an 80 year old in this episode? She does seem to lurch with different personalities alot this series. I really did cringe at the kitchen scene.

The new series seems watchable but also really not watchable iykwim. I will persevere. Hoping John Corbett will soon return.

TheRemotePart · 30/12/2021 20:15

@Nitgel hahaaaa yeah all hope lies on the lovely Aiden!

  • I haven’t actually watched past ep3 and usually hate spoilers,but I’m glad I’m not missing anything…
