I’m three episodes in, and I’m like “meh”
Not very funny and depressing…
Hate all the “box ticking “ it’s overtaking the show
Charlottes daughter can’t just be a tom boy ( which in itself would be funny ) she has to be -whatever they were saying? Transgender?
3 min “comedy sketch” about being Bi….?
Charlotte and Stanford don’t like each other?
Big wanking ..( eew)
Steve just going “eh? What?”
Carrie totally ignoring Charlottes warning about Miranda’s drinking?
Miranda’s Prof saying she was a White Saviour when trying to point out to the guard he was being unreasonable?
Everyone mentioning their age every scene?
Why would Carrie be putting herself through the embarrassment of a vulgar podcast when she’s clearly retired writing and married to a millionaire?

I’m debating whether to just imagine them, all running home from the desert where my imagination left left after SATC2 …

Friends not fiends 😂

boogiewithasuitcase · 04/02/2022 08:47

Without Carrie's storyline of adjusting to her new life circumstances and making new friends I would have stopped watching.

I was hoping that she would bump into 'Emily in Paris'. Grin

I enjoyed the humour in Charlotte's scenes. Maybe she was wearing that big puffy dress because that is exactly what she would have worn if she had been born Jewish and had a bat mitzvah.

Miranda's storyline was not satisfying in any way to look back upon. Poor 'old' Steve. It also meant that Nya's story was disjointed.

@mirabellemadrigal

I have recently re-watched all 6 series and the two films

Film 1 was not as bad as I remember
Film 2 was awful and the opposite of woke

What they did to Samantha in that film is unforgivable. No wonder she won't return

The new series is not a patch on the old programme

Agree. I've never really considered what they did to Samantha in the second film. It did ruin her didn't it?

In what way? It’s been a while since I watched the film and can’t remember why everyone hates it so much!

HelloBunny · 04/02/2022 09:49

In SATC they reduced Samantha to a sex-crazed desperado. All of those condoms spilling out of her bag...
When, actually, she was a hugely successful, sassy business woman. Who happened to have a hugely successful, sassy sex-life.

HelloBunny · 04/02/2022 09:49

SATC 2, I mean.

vjg13 · 04/02/2022 10:06

When she was scattering the ashes, all I could think was my dog had more! I hated the Miranda turning down Paris bit, it was meant to be all about friendship and a longer flight isn't too much of a struggle.
Is there meant to be a season 2?

MissTrip82 · 04/02/2022 10:34

I was on board with che until this episode.
‘Not traditional’ my foot. This was an entirely traditional predictable toxic relationship with Che playing the role of an entitled 25 yr old straight white man cheerfully fucking with Miranda’s feelings.

I enjoyed the show though…..

Wanderingowl · 04/02/2022 10:42

This was so, so badly written overall. The writers were more concerned with writing lessons to the viewer while occasionally throwing in a few jokes with no build up. Compared to the original series which even at it's worst, was tightly written and extremely witty it was an utter shambles. The writers here barely seem familiar with the characters and events from the original.

In this episode alone we had a missed opportunity from the very beginning. When the podcast trio are discussing worst break-ups, Carrie's Berger/post-it story would have been perfect. Especially as it concludes with a cop quoting it when he will reduce her charge for smoking a joint but not let her off completely. Instead she says Big died. Again.

We are supposed to care that Miranda is being so unlike herself by giving up the big internship she wanted so badly. But the first any of the viewers heard about her desperately wanting and finally landing this amazing, competitive internship is after she has already made the decision to spend the summer in California. We needed to have seen a bit of build up to that for it to actually mean anything. Seen her decide to apply several episodes ago, then last week get the internship and celebrate it. That way her giving it up would mean something narratively.

Then we have the big joke of Rock finishing her list of labels she doesn't want with 'New Yorker' and Charlotte and Harry being horrified. That was just stupid. We never see the family constantly identify as New Yorkers to the point that Rock saying that made any sense at all. She just would not have said that. This isn't Arrested Development, throwing in something random and nonsensical to be funny isn't funny.

And lastly we have Carrie's shock at learning Miranda is summering in California with Che. I know Carrie has always been self absorbed and obviously she has deep reservations about Che and Miranda as a couple. But she knows Miranda is nuts about Che. And she knows Che is moving to California. Are we really supposed to believe that one of the first things Carrie didn't think when Che said she was leaving, was to worry about how Miranda would be dealing with it. I just don't believe that Carrie would have spoken to Miranda to ask her how she was as soon as she got home from the studio.

And lastly, what kind of utter asshole was Miranda to repeatedly belittle a relatively recently bereaved woman when she talks about sensing signs from her dead husband. I'm an atheist. I believe that when you are dead you are gone and heaven is just a comforting fairy story. So do most of my friends. But if one of those friends was bereaved in the last year and started talking about sensing their loved one around them, I'd just give them a fucking hug and let them keep talking without invalidating them for finding comfort where the could. And so would the real Miranda.

Wanderingowl · 04/02/2022 10:44

I did two lastly-s there as more and more silly things just kept coming to me.

foxlover47 · 04/02/2022 11:23

For some reason I was emotional at two points of the end , the ref to sex and the city and end in the lift
Jesus I was tearful and happy
And decided I definitely want a second series
Anthony is the best ... they've all been cut 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I don't know why but Chez singing cracked me up , Miranda just relax and enjoy the evening why is she always so uptight and wanting to know every detail all the time ...
I think they need to leave Samantha alone next season though ...
so many times I've thought how selfish Carrie is as a friend , then Miranda , I think Charlotte has stayed true to character and I like that :)
I might even rewatch in one big binge lol

StPaulandTheBrokenBones · 04/02/2022 11:28

I'm not sure whether anyone else has mentioned this but when Carrie and Miranda were talking about Miranda going off to California did this remind anyone of when Carrie was going to Paris with the Russian?

I seem to recall Miranda accusing Carrie of throwing her life away (her job, friends etc) to move to Paris and asking what she would do there other than wait around for the Russian to finish working.

It was almost a mirror of that conversation in the last episode of AJLT. Interesting because Miranda gave Carrie a really hard time about going to Paris with some man she barely knew and yet Miranda has left her life on the spur of the moment for someone she has just met.

Lottapianos · 04/02/2022 11:29

'For some reason I was emotional at two points of the end , the ref to sex and the city and end in the lift'

I loved those moments too. Also teared up at seeing her exquisite grey frilly gown (last week?)

Feenie · 04/02/2022 11:30

I cried at the end as well. I absolutely loved the whole series and I would definitely watch another series.

Side note - why do they make text exchanges so bloody small?! I have multi focal contacts which serve me very well most of the time but I have NO IDEA what Sam said to Carrie in that episode and vice versa. Anyone?!

foxlover47 · 04/02/2022 11:37

@fringecringewhinge
She basically told her she had kissed someone else that wasn't big
So Sam texted it was small and then she asked her to talk and Samantha said soon
Later I may of missed some
Out but she said she was in Paris and Carrie asked her if she wanted a cocktail and Samantha basically asked her "hows tomorrow night" I think so it would appear they were gonna meet for a drinks and reunion :)
I wear glasses and had to really lean in to the tele lol

foxlover47 · 04/02/2022 11:38

Sorry @fringecringewhinge that was meant for @Feenie 🥰

Feenie · 04/02/2022 11:39

Thank you! I was also leaning in and peering 😆

foxlover47 · 04/02/2022 11:40

@Lottapianos that dress is just divine isn't it ... I was a bit emotional when she had had her hip done and got dressed up in that rainbow dress at the end too
I've loved a lot of the clothes again this time round

ExtremelyDelighted · 04/02/2022 11:42

The texts were fine for me but our front room is quite small so I'm fairly close to the telly and still hanging onto single vision contacts

Lottapianos · 04/02/2022 11:44

'I've loved a lot of the clothes again this time round'

Same. Found it hard to concentrate on the picnic table conversation because I was mesmerized by Charlotte's green leather snake / croc skin bag 😍

Doubleraspberry · 04/02/2022 11:53

I think the text messages were a cruel prank to make all viewers of the original series back in the 90s have to peer into the screen or get their glasses out. Interactive reminder of our mortality.

Feenie · 04/02/2022 12:51

😆😆😆

foxlover47 · 04/02/2022 13:01

Totally 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

kirkandpetal · 04/02/2022 13:41

@shivermetimbers77

I have found myself looking forward to watching this each Thursday and will miss it now it’s finished, BUT, I just wish it could have had more confidence in itself and it’s characters without having to shoehorn all these clunky storylines in as if they were ticking off a huge list of ‘contemporary topics’. I miss the old version of Miranda and the Che character is just awful. I really liked Seema and Anthony though and found Carrie the most likeable of the trio this time around (used to be Miranda). I hope they make another series but next time go easy on all the moralising and just allow the characters and situations to unfold more naturally.

Agree 100%.
Loved Carrie in this and thought there were some lovely moments. Out of all of them, she and her new friend Seema felt the most natural. Didn't warm to Miranda and found Charlotte just plain irritating.

Carries wardrobe was amazing. although painting in heels - wtf?! The dress in Paris - bonkers but sublime. And the ashes in what was prob an extortionate bejeweled Eiffel Tower bag - brilliant.

I'm glad I stuck it out. The first few episodes were too obvious but it settled into a gentle vibe, for Carrie's character in particular

AllyBama · 04/02/2022 14:04

For me I was really really aware of how much they must have edited out Chris Noth in this episode. I know it was the right thing to do and they just had to make the best of it when his scandal came out right after Big died but I feel like in a different world where Noth wasn’t such a shit, we would have got to see a much better, fleshed out, more emotionally whole episode. We would have seen Carrie dreaming of him, seeing him waiting for her on the bridge. Such a shame.

Or maybe if Carrie had just fucking called 911… but we’ve covered that.
