I’m three episodes in, and I’m like “meh”
Not very funny and depressing…
Hate all the “box ticking “ it’s overtaking the show
Charlottes daughter can’t just be a tom boy ( which in itself would be funny ) she has to be -whatever they were saying? Transgender?
3 min “comedy sketch” about being Bi….?
Charlotte and Stanford don’t like each other?
Big wanking ..( eew)
Steve just going “eh? What?”
Carrie totally ignoring Charlottes warning about Miranda’s drinking?
Miranda’s Prof saying she was a White Saviour when trying to point out to the guard he was being unreasonable?
Everyone mentioning their age every scene?
Why would Carrie be putting herself through the embarrassment of a vulgar podcast when she’s clearly retired writing and married to a millionaire?

I’m debating whether to just imagine them, all running home from the desert where my imagination left left after SATC2 …

There were a million different problems with the show, and about half of those were Che-related, but I have enjoyed it on the whole and will miss it. Fashion game still seriously strong, and some lovely bonkers moments included. So glad there was no Aidan!

Drunkpanda · 03/02/2022 21:18

I was surprised by the messages between Carrie and Samantha. Nice to see the characters reaching out, if not the actors!

I thought it got better as the series went along too. I have really warmed to Carrie, enjoyed the little text chats she's had with Samantha and the way the death of Big and its effect on her has been handled. Charlotte's family, I'm glad Rock was able to speak out and not just go through with the ceremony because of family pressure. I like Seema too. And Anthony.

Miranda has been a disaster though. She's chucked in her studies (effectively), the prestigious internship, her marriage, seemingly with hardly a second thought. She looks washed out and frumpy most of the time compared to the other two and yet she can be so stylish. The alcoholism storyline has been completely dropped. All very unsatisfactory.

Socialcarenope · 03/02/2022 21:47

@MaddieElla

Why was Carrie wearing washing up gloves? 🤣

Miranda/Cynthia - you've ruined what could have been fabulous.

I just kept thinking "she's got pink marigolds on!"
HeyGirlHeyBoy · 03/02/2022 21:56

Well, one thing is that the reactions to Miranda, Carrie and lecturer, were bang on. That suggests she might be being foolish. Also the potential humiliation at Che's announcement was also clear.
Carrie's own radio slot, much better.

GreenClock · 03/02/2022 22:00

I hope they make a S2 (minus Che obviously). There was plenty that was positive - Anthony, Seema, the professor. Charlotte is as I would have pictured 55yo Charlotte when I watched the he original in the late 1990s. Harry is consistently good. SJP portrayed her character’s grief very well. The three leads still have amazing chemistry. Some fabulous bonkers fashion.

I hope that a new season scales back on the preaching and brings a little more sass and levity back. I think I’d rather see a show like that minus Cynthia Nixon, than more of the same with her in it. The new characters plus Anthony and Harry are arguably strong enough to work alongside Carrie and Charlotte to keep viewers watching. And more cameos from old faces like Bitzy and Susan Sharon would be great.

Lottapianos · 03/02/2022 22:02

'SJP portrayed her character’s grief very well. The three leads still have amazing chemistry. Some fabulous bonkers fashion.'

Totally agree

Fun fact - SJP did the surprise wedding in real life. Her and Matthew arranged 'a party' and when everyone arrived, they announced it was actually their wedding. I can definitely see the appeal

Another out of character Miranda moment was the foamy cappuccino comment. She really wasn't someone impressed by a cappuccino.

LethargeMarg · 03/02/2022 22:07

I think Miranda was supposed to have a disappointing ending - possibly as a bit of karma for treating Steve so badly? Clearly it wasn't what she really wanted and so out of character it felt like watching a mid life crisis- jacking in everything you've worked hard for for a new younger partner - Miranda hated LA in the original series and I think would be miserable out there supporting a partner.
I really enjoyed this series after about the third episode and getting used to it not being the original
I particularly liked Harry and Charlotte and Lisa wexley

LethargeMarg · 03/02/2022 22:07

And Anthony of course !

Really? I thought Hari Nef was awful and played it like the rabbi was a drag queen or very camp gay man.
Drunkpanda · 03/02/2022 22:09

Rabbi Jane is a real person. The Rabbi is AJLT was called Rabbi Jen.
Interesting there biggest scene with the rabbi talking was in the toilets.

MrsEricBana · 03/02/2022 22:41

I thought Carrie was really good and HPK (hot producer kiss) was excellent ending. Loved Anthony & the professor. Charlotte - not really interested. Miranda - just no. I didn't dislike Che but I thought their relationship was 100% implausible. I hope there is another series but not sure it's needed as such.

I also picked up on that.

Very true.

Newgirls · 03/02/2022 22:49

I think that wrapped up the story lines really well. Yes to the hot podcast producer. To Samantha on the phone. To rock saying ‘why am I doing all this stuff?’

Sad for the professor though - that was a tough storyline. I can totally believe Miranda going to LA with che. She has done the career stuff, mum stuff tick. So she’s suiting herself. Not sure what else her story could have been this series? More work and married life?

IWasFunBeforeMum · 03/02/2022 22:54

Loved it!

DaggerIsle · 03/02/2022 22:59

I found Miranda scrapping Paris for Che really weird. The whole point of the show is the amazing friendship between those women.
Even Charlotte said in the original show that they are all each other's soul mates. Miranda could have gone to LA a week later- they would have ended the last episode on the 3 of them walking into a bar to meet (an offscreen) Samantha.
Just like the show ended in the first place. It would have been a neat resolution in case of no more series.

RoyKentsChestHair · 03/02/2022 23:39

@RhythmOfTheLight

I thought the Berger 'post it note' break up should have come up at the podcast.
Yes! It’s like the writers never watched the original series. That was such an iconic episode and they went with Big dying instead. Which isn’t a break up.

Glad to see Carrie and Sam texting.

shivermetimbers77 · 03/02/2022 23:41

I have found myself looking forward to watching this each Thursday and will miss it now it’s finished, BUT, I just wish it could have had more confidence in itself and it’s characters without having to shoehorn all these clunky storylines in as if they were ticking off a huge list of ‘contemporary topics’. I miss the old version of Miranda and the Che character is just awful. I really liked Seema and Anthony though and found Carrie the most likeable of the trio this time around (used to be Miranda). I hope they make another series but next time go easy on all the moralising and just allow the characters and situations to unfold more naturally.

HelloBunny · 04/02/2022 00:18

One bit that didn’t sit right with me (there was more than one bit...) was when Miranda went crazy at Brady & Che when they were having a puff together. She was 100% strict mom & totally embarrassed Brady in public. Yet allows his GF to practically live with them, even listening to them having sex every night. It just doesn’t add up... Her sneaking off when she saw Brady at Che’s rally was another similar moment.

dayswithaY · 04/02/2022 07:25

I cried when Carrie scattered the ashes, it was so moving. I love Carrie, always have even though she is annoying to lots of people I just think she's wonderful. I noticed a couple of things now it's ended.

  1. I never knew how much I loved Samantha but blimey, this series needed her. She never took herself too seriously, she had a sense of humour and a softness about her. Sam would have seen through Che straight away and called them out for what they are - just a player who won't give Miranda what she wants.
  1. I think Seema is the best friend Carrie never had. They are so well matched, Seema really gets her, she is supportive but also independent, they both "get" fashion in the same way, love her.
  1. Massive relief Harry didn't have a heart attack and die at the Bat Mitzah, he's lovely. Same as Anthony - at the start when it was all very worthy and issue lead - he saved the day.
  1. Note to writers - if you decide Miranda should die in a plane crash in LA, that's fine by me. And most of the audience. Che can stay in LA, far away from us,
Newgirls · 04/02/2022 08:23

I like that the writers show how new female fiends come in to your life and can be even more ‘you’ than your old ones. That we aren’t just fixed at age 28 or whatever. They each had a new close friend which I thought worked so well
